Silverstone ---> Grip

Minardi would like to offer Coulthard 2.000.000 for a race driver seat, with McNish becoming test driver.

Minardi will focus on grip in Estoril and top speed in Barcelona.

tyrrell will focus on reliaiblity at barcelona and focus on top speed at Sliverstone

Ferrari will be testing at Jerez and Barcelona with Top Speed and Reliability emphasized, respectively.

I have testing plans for everyone except Williams. I'll need them by Friday, as I plan to run the sessions on the weekend.

Silverstone Test - 1997

Many teams elected to join the test at Silverstone, as the place is what most British teams call home. Sauber and Jordan appeared to have impressive pace from their main drivers as Damon Hill continued to show the added value he brings to the fledgling Lola team. Montermini only drove in the morning, as his car was plagued by electrical issues.

Moore's a second off Hakkinen... he's still pretty young though, I'm sure once he gets settled he'll be right up there.

Barcelona Test - 1997

Twenty-one cars cut through the silence of the Spanish winter, where Prost and Minardi joined the fray for the first time. This was also the first test where Ferrari and McLaren were on track together, and the two teams widely touted as contenders proved they can extract a similar amount of pace from the car. Well then, Fisichella looks reasonably decent, Nakano looks reasonably average and Collard looks reasonably cack. Should be a good season! :P

Note to team owners

After Round 3 (Buenos Aires), you will be able to make plans to test.

You may select any venue that would a) be realistically used to test cars and b) available to use in GP2. Each test will cost a base price of £500k and you may focus on one aspect (top speed, grip or reliability; just like in pre-season). You can also choose to focus on two areas in one test, but this would cost you £1m. You can also share the circuits with other teams if you wish. Sharing the circuit will cost half the price for each team, no matter how many teams test.

You are permitted to hold a maximum of FOUR private tests each per year. There may be some FIA-sanctioned free tests throughout the year, however these will not affect your quota of four.

The Australian GP will be sorted over the rest of the weekend.

1997 Australian Grand Prix - Qualifying

The season kicked off in Melbourne, and with a large-scale shake-up throughout the grid the hopes were high amongst the F1 fraternity that 1997 would be a very interesting spectacle. Although turning up to Melbourne with a different driving lineup compared to last year, Williams locked out the front row as predicted title challengers Schumacher and Hakkinen took the second row. A surprise was Pedro de la Rosa in his Minardi, who qualified very well indeed.

Fantastic from Fisi, if he can bag a few points I'd be chuffed to bits! Meanwhile, Naka-san is doing even worse than I thought; he should be well clear of the Stefans and Lolas.

Magnussen has shown that he will bring glory and success to Stefan GP by outqualifying famous world champion Tyrrell team. Diniz however has brought shame on himself, he must show increased competence in future endeavour or he will no longer be here, rich family or no.

I, Zoran, would also like to announce that I have begun taking English lessons, so that my standard of communicative skills do not remain a source of humour among inconsiderate fellow team bosses.
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

Solid qualifying for Arrows, good start for Takagi, out-qualifying his countryman in the vastly superior Prost.

I see Lola aren't nearly as rejectful as in real life. :lol:

At least Kristensen did qualify decent enough for Tyrrell. However, Brack only managed to avoid starting on the last row of the grid is more concerning for us. Hopefully, there's enough wrecks and reliability problems to at least get a top-10 finish.

1997 Australian Grand Prix - Race

'97 kicked off with a massively exciting race, welcoming a brand new winner to the top step of the podium. The two Williams were initially jumped by Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen, and the two spent the first half of the race dueling for the lead. Many teams suffered mechanical failures, as new parts being accommodated into 1997-spec packages had been met with the standard teething troubles. Hakkinen eventually fell foul to this, his Mercedes giving up midway through lap 35 meant that the scrap between himself and Schumacher was over. However, the Ferrari #1 was presented with a new challenge as polesitter Rubens Barrichello returned to the front of the pack after losing out at the start. The Brazilian retook the lead and held on to it come the end of the race, taking his first win in his first race for Williams. Greg Moore was on to score for McLaren in his first race since moving from IndyCars, but he also suffered a problem 6 laps from the end whilst in 5th. This allows debutant Pedro de la Rosa to pick up his first ever point, as Minardi scored for the first time since 1995. Reigning champion Damon Hill still showed the F1 paddock he's got the drive to succeed; he drove a flawless race to bring his Lola home in 8th place.

No way! A Minardi already scoring, and Damon Hill two positions away from that...

That's the joy of attrition! Plus, Albert Park always throws up some interesting results...it was nice to see this was no exception.

Good thing that both Tyrrell's finished the race 1 lap down. Kristensen did finish with a top-10, but as we expected a lot of reliability problems up and down the grid. If this unreliability continues on to the next round, Tyrrell may score one point before we return to Europe.

Lola are pleased that both cars made the finish and hill finishing 8th is better than expected,although the rate of attrition helped. Hopefully if this continues we would like to finish in the points

It's clearly obvious that the transmission units fitted to the Jordans this morning were made of paper mache and leftover banana skins. Although, the lack of pace in qualifying is worrying, considering how strongly we were running in the pre-season.

Brazilian Grand Prix - Qualifying

The Renault engines seemed to be the most effective on the quick and flowing Interlagos circuit; three of the four Renault-powered cars made an appearance in the top 6 as Jean Alesi took his first Williams pole. Giancarlo Fisichella was also very quick; displacing some of the usual quicker cars en route to 5th in his Prost.
