Massa crashed at the end of Q3 and had to change his engine, thus penalizing him to dead last place on the grid.

Massa gains 3 places on lap 1. Fisichella leads and Webber is down to 7th.
On lap 3, Massa is stuck in 16th but has done well since the start.

Coulthard is holding up Massa but M Schumacher is into 2nd past Raikkonen. He closes to less than a second behind Fisi.
Michael is leading! On lap 8 he passes Fisichella into the first corner. Massa is 11th and onto the off-the-pace Webber.

At the start of lap 12, Massa goes down the inside of JV and is now in the points, but a long way behind compatriot Barrichello.

Massa is 6.5s behind Barrichello but will soon close in.
Trulli has retired and an unhelpful Ide lets Button past Montoya. Speed blows up on the banking from 17th, ending a nice day on home soil.
After 19 laps, drivers such as M Schumacher are pitting. He is now 5th. Fisichella retakes the lead of the race.
Raikkonen, the polesitter pits. Button is now 2nd and Massa is 3rd. Later Fischella and Massa are in, giving Button the lead.
When Button pits, Schumacher is there to take P1 back.

Barrichello is the first to make a second stop. Honda must be three-stopping and Barrichello is now 9th, elevating Heidfeld.
M Schumacher also pits and is P6. McLaren prepare to pit one of their drivers and it is Montoya.
Coulthard baulks Raikkonen, Button and Massa, the three drivers closing up. Massa gets past Button for 3rd.
In the pits, Fisichella leapfrogs Schumi and is back in front. 4.6 seconds is the gap.

Massa overpowers Raikkonen and is 4th, but is almost a pit stop behind Alonso. Only a retirement for Schumacher or one of the Renaults will give Felipe a podium.
Fisichella makes contact with Barrichello who spins off. The Brazilian recovers. When Fisichella pits, Schumacher retakes the lead.
Alonso is more than 25 seconds ahead of Massa, so the Ferrari driver is likely to finish 4th at best.
Schumacher wins narrowly from Fisichella by 1.759s. A great effort from Massa to finish 4th from 22nd on the grid.
