Re: rFAF1 1980 Season: German GP LIVE
Constant upgrade failure and lack of progress make me unsatisfied and I lost interest in this as a team owner. So I decided to sell my team to another user. Which means I will lead Arrows untill someone wants to take over and I approve this. However, I am planning to stay in the series with my driver, Deyan Rangelov.
To finish first, first you have to finish!

1) It was. BUT, I discovered some pretty annoying faults with the track, such as a pretty much non functioning pitlane.
2) Gauthier was 7th. It was an uncharacteristic weekend for him

Re: rFAF1 1980: Alan Jones Champion!
1980 Italian Grand Prix // Monza (ITA)
The only driver changes pre-weekend was the return of Arsenio Matarazzo to the Steve Smith seat.
Quali:
Race
If Alan Jones could win the race with Harvey Jones he would be crowned champion.
Well, the race got off to a clean start. Except for Harvey Jones, who crashed on the first lap - contact in the pack sent him into the wall. With that, Alan Jones became world champion. The Williams cars had the advantage over the field, with the Merzarios and Villeneuve right behind, but when Villenueve lost his front wing after violently clipping the kerbs and was sent towards the back of the field, it was Williams vs Merzario. Alan Jones spun off on the first lap at the first corner, and rejoined in stone dead last. However, neither Scheckter nor McAllister could keep the thing on the track! The Merzarios were astonishingly quick in a straight line, but lacked the cornering speed, and encountering the backmarkers didn't help. Despite leading the race, Andretti and Prost fell back, whilst Sheckter and McAllister moved out in front, despite spinning and fancying a bit of rallycross. However, constantly making mistakes, combined with a ferocious battle for the lead and the not so ferocious backmarkers allowed Alan Jones to climb through the field, slowly but surely... until with three laps to go, he was behind McAllister, who was in turn 2 seconds adrift of Scheckter. A well executed move on the Spaniard saw the champion-in-waitingthrough, but the gap to Scheckter was too big to overcome, and all for Scheckter to take the win. Coming into the della Roggia chicane,Scheckter encountered the lapped traffic of Hiroshi Takagi.... who promptly swerved like a maniac on the exit, crashing into Scheckter! The South African was out! Takagi would limp to the finish, but both Scheckter and everyone at Williams were furious! Patrick Head was seen storming down to the Tyrrell garage for a few choice words. For the second year in succession Takagi had caused controversy at Monza. Rene Arnoux managed to drag the Ferrari up to 5th place to score an emotional 2 points for Ferrari after a torrid year.
This madness promoted Alan Jones to the lead of the race, and after a sterling effort, he won the Italian Grand Prix and his first World Championship with his 5th victory of the season. Congratulations to Alan Jones and the Lotus-Renault team. Lotus are almost out of reach in the Constructor's championship, although Williams would have to finish 1-2 in both remaining races to overhaul them.

Harvey Jones wrote:Well, I'm obviously disappointed to loose the championship considering we have such a dominant car, but congratulations to Alan, he's driven an excellent season. I just wish our reliability had been better, the team hasn't focused on it at all and it's cost me a huge amount of points. I'll look to try and get some good results for the remainder of the year, and then take a year's sabbatical. I want to pursue some other interests in my life, I have some activities going on in Banbury and I want to spend some time with my wife and young son Sammy. I can announce that, barring any unfortunate incidents, I shall be returning to F1 in 1982 to drive for Renault, which is something I'm very excited about also. But now, I intend to do the best job I can for Lotus for the rest of 1980.

Statement regarding the race exclusion of Hiroshi Takagi
We have received the appeal from Team Tyrrell regarding the exclusion of Hiroshi Takagi from 16 world championship events. We would like to illustrate the precise reasoning for said ban, that is Takagi was found to be driving in a manner which not only posed a great danger to his competitors, but to himself and spectators. He has also been found guilty of obstructing the leader of the race, whether or not this was intentional, his actions during the closing stages of the 1980 Italian Grand Prix confirm this statement.
As such, Takagi's exclusions of 12 World Championship events for dangerous driving and endangerment of fellow competitors, and 4 World Championship events for gross obstruction of the race leader, for a total of 16 World Championship events still stands. On top of this, we have fined Team Tyrrell £300,000 for an appeal against a major offence. Team Tyrrell have also been fined £700,000 for bringing the sport into disrepute - a team cannot request to disqualify their own driver. This brings the total fine up to £1,000,000.
FMecha - I will not disqualify Takagi on the premise that he had done nothing wrong up until this point. Only confirmed cases of cheating or extreme offences will cause a driver to be disqualified.

Team Tyrrell wrote:On the another hand, Sheldon Kinser just mailed us that he's not interested to drive with us, so we'll call Nurmester instead.
Thomas Nurmester wrote:Yes, I'm still interested in driving for you. It's not like I had anything better to do...
Team Tyrrell wrote:Good.
Therefore, Nurmester, not Kinser, replaces Takagi for his duration of ban.

RejectSport wrote:Jean-Pierre Jabouille to stay at Renault for 1981?
In years past, the question of whether Jean-Pierre Jabouille would stay at Renault was a rather pointless one - well-liked by the team management and very quick, signing a contract was merely a formality. However, times have changed at Renault, as Jean Sage ran out of patience with the under-performing Carlos Reutemann and replaced him with Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler, the rookie who has already secured a long-term future with Renault after his incredible success in 1980. Combined with the news that Harvey Jones has already signed a contract with the French marque for 1982, and you could be forgiven for thinking that the 2nd Renault seat for next year is perhaps not the most sought after. Nonetheless, Jean Sage is hoping to keep the French veteran on for one last season.
"It is true that Jean-Pierre will have to look for employment elsewhere for 1982, however, I believe his best chance for this is to have a strong 1981 with Renault. It has been a great pleasure of mine to work with him all these years, and I am hoping that he will return with us for one last season, with which he can achieve the success someone of his talent richly deserves."
Sage did not rule out the possibility of Jabouille remaining a works driver following 1981, with whichever team secures his services for 1982 being entitled to a more favourable Renault engine contract. However, he also confirmed that he was looking strongly into other possibilities for the seat, including the reigning Indy 500 and IndyCar champion, Brendon Cassidy, who impressed in a test for the French team earlier this year, and who has also been offered status as a works Renault driver alongside Jabouille.
