Mark Webber retrospective

Post by eytl »

Hi everyone,

As well as our upcoming 2013 season review (and our traditional season review / Christmas / new year podcast - don't hold your breath, it won't be coming until sometime between Christmas and new year at the earliest), one thing to look out for in the coming days is a Mark Webber retrospective series of pictures on the main page of the site. It's been a while since we've done a series of retro pics, and it seemed to be a good idea.

If you have suggestions for:

  • races you would like to see included
  • incidents you would like to see included
  • specific pictures you would like to see included

then leave a comment below. I can't guarantee that every suggestion will be incorporated though - there's only 84 days to the start of the 2014 season!

Cheers,
Enoch

Any of his crazy exploits in qualifying Jaguars would be nice. Some of the great surprises of my childhood.

A picture from his crash with Vettel at Fuji 2007 would be interesting. Considering that was possibly his first win taken from him.

Also a shot of the podium at Nurburgring 2009, which of course was his first win.

Podium from Australia 2002? With him and Paul Stoddart.

Monaco 2005, since it was his first podium.

Highlight and lowlight from each of his 12 seasons in F1 would be good start. I was probably thinking something like 31 pics in total which would mean one in each day of January.

2002: Australia / Spain
2003: Hungary / Brazil
2004: Malaysia Q / Belgium
2005: Monaco / Brazil
2006: Monaco Q / Australia
2007: Europe / Japan
2008: Monaco / Singapore
2009: Germany / Japan
2010: Monaco / Europe
2011: Brazil / China Q
2012: Britain / Abu Dhabi
2013: Brazil / Malaysia post-race

Any Photos where he was on the podium would be nice. But the wins should be there as well

Thanks for the suggestions. I now have all the pictures lined up, ready to go, and there are 69 of them (no innuendo intended).

The first pictures will go up shortly. I might also try to post them in this thread in case you miss out on any day.

MODS! Ban this user, he's clearly planning to juice his post count! :P

So by my reckoning, if you start posting photos on the 4th/5th of January, that will be 69 days until the first practise session at Melbourne?

I think quite an important one for him which seems to have been overlooked is the 2009 Chinese GP - finally he found himself in a car with which he's able to win races (and possibly the championship) but he has THAT phomenon to contend with driving the other car.....

I was thinking of editing/updating the same single post each day.

I should say though that I haven't been able to include all the suggestions that everyone made and it wasn't easy to choose out of 215 GPs, plus the retrospective will only focus on Mark's time in F1. I'm not including his early days in Australia or Britain or in the Merc sportscars or in F3000 - his career as a whole isn't over yet!

To go with the 69 Webber retrospective photos, there were also 45 people on two wheels who said their farewells to Mark at the end of last year.
He may not have noticed them, but they did.
