131231 Season Review Edition
G'day all,
Happy New Year! Just before the fireworks explode across the entire globe, we have posted our Season Review/Xmas Edition of our podcast for your holiday season listening pleasure.
That of course means more Margie Lane, Goddess of Song, leading into our infamous and incomprehensible one-word driver reviews. We also have the Reject Podium for 2013, including Reject of the Year 2013.
And, alas, we have again recorded a Christmas Carol to mark the season, this time assaulting your ears with our take on "The First Noel". Our apologies.
Thoughts, comments, wishes you could get that hour of your life back, post below...
Depending on what people write: potential spoilers for Reject Podium below!
Cheers,
Jamie
(Enoch's awesome written Season Review will be online soon also. The past few weeks have been a bonanza of F1 Rejects content!)

Fair enough to give Chilton 20th and I loved the description about Pastor (Pork Chop) and Gutierrez (Slowpoke Gutierrez). Why did you choose Chilton for the "Talent Driver"

No No why did J+E choose Chilton for the Sarcastic Thread. Why not choose GVDG considering everyone thought he would be absolutely hopeless this year

Hey I actually liked the Cricket comment. I too was surprised that GVDG was 16th. Personally he would have been 18th. Bottom 3 is fully justified though

Not enough ridiculous love for Max Chilton, no silly news that may or may not be fake, and no mention of Geido van der Garde driving for SUPER AGURI. Boo. Zero stars.

When I hear the term "cricket", I think of either the company or the insect, not the game that vaguely resembles baseball. I do understand the term powerplay in hockey terms. That and I can poke at a certain Colorado Avalanche fan that visits these forums, though since Colorado recently beat Columbus 5-3, I can't really make fun of them. Bathplug.
...anyways, I was ... honestly not surprised that many of the same accusations you had about Vettel you didn't hurl at Schumacher, given his recent injuries, it would be in somewhat bad taste. Given that you are much nicer people than I am, you took the high road (or the Vettel Hate road) and opted not to make that comparison... or mention that Vettel drove for Toro Rosso, and subbed for Kubica and scored points on debut.

Thanx, great hangover cure, listned to it while grilling on the 1st of January. We usually have a meter of snow and -10 C but this time around it was +6 and we are yet to see any snow. That's global warming for you...
Can't agree with the ROTY but that's probably because I had 0 expectations for him. Great song! Thank you again and keep up the good work in 2014

Wow, you got the word "Hell" into a Christmas carol. Not many carols mention hell, oddly!
And I am really rather surprised that Williams did not make the Reject podium of the Year. They would have made mine. Maybe because I am that much of a Williams fanboy and thus my expectations are that little bit higher, thus this year is a bigger disappointment for me?

Or perhaps it's because Williams's form in recent years has been up and down like a whore's drawers, if you'll excuse the expression - if you start in 2006, which was a bad year, the pattern has been bad ('06), good ('07), bad ('08), good ('09 - or at least for Rosberg it was good), good ('10), bad ('11), good ('12 - their poor finishing position was a reflection of their drivers faults rather than that of the team) and now bad ('13).
2012, in retrospect, was something of a continuation of that inconsistent form - a brief upswing followed by the team sliding back as development stalled. It seems to be in part because of their development cycle - the FW28 was too unreliable, but the FW29 drew on those experiences to produce a much more thoroughly sorted car. However, it seems that Williams tapped out the development potential of the FW29 when it was evolved into the FW30, which saw them slide back once again as others made larger steps in performance.
If we look at the performance after the 2009 rule changes, the FW31 took advantage of their knowledge of the double diffuser regulations to produce a solid car, and the development version of that car, the FW32, was reasonably competent too - however, their attempt at a more radical car in 2011 backfired due to the persistent issues with their lowline gearbox (both in terms of reliability and, reportedly, a lack of torsional stiffness in the earlier part of the year). The FW34 came about after a major engineering reshuffle and seemed to take advantage of the ban on cold blowing, but this season they've admitted that they simply couldn't get their Coanda exhausts to work properly and eventually went back towards the FW34's configuration due to aero correlation issues.
With that in mind, I guess that the only consolation would be if that pattern holds and Williams have a stronger year in 2014 - which is possible given that they should hopefully have a fairly competitive engine and, arguably, a better line up this season (whilst Massa may not be at his quickest anymore, I think that he would be less of a disruptive influence than Maldonado).

2nd on the reject podium didn't deserve to be there at all, Pirelli were only basically doing what the FIA told them to do.

Really great podcast, just what I needed on a rainy day in Wellington! Disagree with your number 1 pick, would have had him in 5th, and the other 4 moved up. Great summary of Pérez's year though, always found their choice of him slightly strange. Also an excellent one word summary of Button's 2013, and agree with you about Pasta's shocking attitude and sense of entitlement.

Oi! What ya got against Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles? T'was a cracker of a flick!
The way he saved that racoon on the highway, great stuff.
Dundee in L.A. was one of the best movies in 2001, along with The Royal Tenenbaums and Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi.
I liked your one-word review of Ricciardo.

And I loved your song.

Only just seen this, at first I was a little shocked. Shocking attitude and sense of entitlement? Little old me?

About the real Pasta, I do agree that his attitude has been disgusting. I was a fan of his when he came into the sport and through 2012, but his latest set of antics has dropped my opinion. Let's hope he can redeem himself on and off the track with Lotus.
