I can't wait for the cars to come out at the end of the month...

And I'm really hoping that we see a USF1 car run at Barber, it's such a nice track, and I don't want to see a team fail before they even get a chance to be rejectful for real...

Also to keep this on topic, one thing I'm dreading is the smug look on Eddie Jordan's face when F1 comes back in Bahrain... I still can't believe he was right, and so far ahead as well!!

Football's ok in moderation, like watching out for your favoured team or cheering your country on in the world cup, or even having a quick multiplayer on me PS3 with mates... But F1 takes over your whole life, and that's why all of us still talk about it, even though there's been no racing whatsoever since November 1st...

Cheer up we're now nearer to the new season than the old one. & in the Northern Hemisphere the nights have been drawing out for a month.

I'm glad it's not just me waiting eagerly. I wish shinji would put back up his "days to season start" sig again. :D

On topic: I was a whisker under 3 years at that point. Don't remember much.
I do remember hating Schumacher right outta day 1 when I started following F1 in 1994

In my first ever text I mentioned having followed F1 for 50 yrs...

I was 17 and madly into F1 at the time. I remember that race really well, not becuase of Schumi's debut but because there was at one point a real chance that De Cesaris could've won the race in Jordan's first year in F1. This was during a time when the only teams that won were McLaren, Williams, Ferrari and sometimes Benetton.

I know Schumi out qualified De Cesaris but at the time that wasn't such a big deal - his subsequent performances alongside Piquet at Benetton were startling and it was clear form a very early stage that this boy was something special. The only other driver I've seen make such an impact so soon in his career was a certain L Hamilton...

I was almost 6 and didn't mind F1. I started following it in 1994 (what a year  ).

It's amazing that Schu will race agains Alguersuari (if he'll be confirmed) that was just 1 in 1991. I think it will be the longest span ever between drivers birthdate in the grid...
Sorry guys, I had a little outing.

Watching F1, actually, since I was followng it since monaco 1990. But at the time didn't know who the hell was Schumacher (Motorsport coverage here, before the internet (YES! there was something alike in the old days) and after Reutemann was lame to say the best in Argentina). But the guy inspired some sympathy to me for his performance and his bad luck after turn 3... sympathy that wouldn't last too much, I'm afraid...

Probably... also Schumi raced against (and in 1993 they were team mates) Riccardo Patrese, who made his debut in 1977!

Let's just say I'd been born but hadn't started school. I think that particular day was sunny at my house, so I was probably playing in the sandpit outside while the race was on. My first F1 race was nearly two years later.

So how much has your life changed over Schumacher's career span? Have you been born? Have you progressed from nappies to college? {shinji - Original post}

I've progressed from six words in one language to fluency in one language and enough proficiency to understand tweets in three others. I've completed all levels of school, got a degree, got and lost my first job, represented England twice in international swimming, competed in two other major galas and been selected for the World Games (the competition level down from the Paralympics).

So not much has happened since 25 August 1991...

I was 18 at the time (glad eagleash is here, not the oldest then!), still living in Portugal, finishing my IT course. Had been watching F1 since 5 when Andretti won the championship (one of my earlier memories in fact). Didn't pay that much attention to Schumi then, and little did I know that in a few months time my life would change, moved to UK with an english girlfriend and still here!!!!
As i looked at my naked body in the mirror, i thought to myself,

It was a week after my birthday so I was 12 years old. The first F1 race I remember watching was the British GP from 1991 with Mansell giving Senna a lift back to the pits but I could only watch F1 (and indeed TV) at my Dad's so I don't think I saw this race unless it was on at a friends house. Sadly.

And since then, I changed towns, went to university, dropped out of university, sang in several bands, ploughed my way through several different jobs and girlfriends until now where I've achieved happiness with band and relationship and am seeking a better job....but isn't everyone!

eagleash, something like what DonTirri says, yeah. Maybe because it's my mother tongue, I find the gap between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese wider than American English and British English. There's clear grammar differences in the use of verb tenses and sentence building and ordering. We understand each other clearly, but I feel silly if I try speaking Brazilian Portuguese (really, I do).

To give you an example, I tried reading a well-known book by a well-known Brazilian author (Jorge Amado) and stopped after about 30 pages because of the sheer effort I was having to do just to keep up. Years later, my sister reported the exact same episode, oblivious the same had happened to me; mind you, that specific book may have been the cause for the disruption.

I am merely 18 days older than Jaume Alguersuari Escudero, so I was 1 year old at the time. Needless to say I hadn't started following F1 yet. I didn't start doing that until 1998, not right at the beginning of the season, but somewhere in the first half, when Michael Schumacher was fighting for the championship with Mika Häkkinen. I remember finding those battles extremely exciting as a young child. I supported Schumacher, because my dad (whose name was also Michael, and who was also born in Germany, and was pretty good at driving cars too!) also supported him. Michael Schumacher grew into my undoubted favourite driver of all time after that year, probably aided by the fact he lost the championship. Me and my dad always had a thing for supporting the underdog, be it in racing, football or whatever. The fact that he won 5 successive World Championships after that didn't change a thing, in fact I looked it on amusedly, while acknowledging F1 had become boring, but I would definitely have been far more disgruntled had a different driver dominated F1 for 5 years straight (unless it would've been Montoya, whom I've always liked. But imagine Ralf winning 5 in a row! Ulgh!). I was very emotional when Michael drove his last race in 2006, because I realized how much he had been a part of my life for all those years, and also because he reminded me of watching the races with my dad who had passed away two years before. That race went on to become one of the most memorable in my memory. Naturally, I was overjoyed when it was announced he will return this year, almost feeling it was too good to be true. (Although I felt a bit weird when he was going to replace Massa last year, and wasn't very surprised when it didn't work out in the end, but that might also have had something to do with really wanting Luca Badoer to finally get a drive (of course, I fondly remember the 1998 European Grand Prix, and I've been following F1 Rejects since 2003!).) By the way, in 1999 Häkkinen was one of my most hated drivers, but I've eventually grown fond of him, though sadly most so after he retired.

Now I spend my time studying linguistics at university, playing video games, inventing stupid fantasy F1 seasons, and having people on internet forums try to figure out whether I'm a man or a woman. So, not a lot has changed in those 19 years, or maybe there has, but whatever. (Btw, why do my posts always turn out so long?!)

Too many young un's on here, poor fools didn't see the magic of prequalifying or even proper qualifying. I was 16 at the time and was enjoyhing the best season that Minardi had...

I am disappointed that not a single person has mentioned that just behind Mr Schumacher was Pierluigi Martini in his Minardi Ferrari. Also ironic that a certain Roberto Moreno got the fastest lap of the race...

Thanks Carlos I was hoping someone (Ie you) from Portugal would answer rather than Finland :) . Melhor assim.

I was 12 years old.
Probably in bed asleep here in Australia while the race was on.

I am now 30 years old, and all of the young ruffians on this board frighten and confuse me.
