The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing thread
Re: The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing threa
Well at least they are finally considering limiting the amount of races a driver can do in a series that they haven't signed up for points. Too bad it probably won't be enforced till 2015 if at all.

NASCAR criticizes F1.
Bernie responds.
I don't know about you, but comparing your sport (NASCAR) to an 800 pound gorilla would not have been my choice of words. Also, the F1 vs. NASCAR flame war in the comments of these articles are worth reading for comedic value.

To be fair, it was the boss of Texas Motor Speedway who was complaining about F1, not NASCAR. And that guy is kind of a loon.

Mr Gossage? The guy who was incredibly whiny when he dealt with the Firestone Firehawk 600?

What a bathplugging moron. It goes to show that Americans don't show consideration for other people and sports. That explains why most motorsports but NASCAR in the US are so unpopular. No one seems to care about them, and don't bother to look up the facts when they've got many resources to use. No one where I live has heard of F1. That's because everyone thinks the only racing series in the world are IndyCar and NASCAR.
Bernie is right in this case. F1 has to follow a strict schedule and one that's efficient. F1 had no choice, because when NASCAR runs, it's 36 races from February to November with only 2 weekends without races in between. F1 has no choice but make the US round a NASCAR weekend, unless they want the US as a season finale, and that's not going to happen unless double points is crashed.
Gossage should consider the facts before he goes on such a rant, and he's only making himself look like a rejectful owner and figurehead. He made himself look like an idiot with those comments. When would you compare your own sport to an 800 pound gorilla?! NASCAR doesn't fit that definition in its most redneck form. This made me laugh because of his own failure. Gossage was already low on my list of likeable motorsport related people, and he just sank to rock bottom.

For some reason, I have loosened my NASCAR-aversion slightly and found some time to pay attention in-between basketball and...well nothing, because there's no other sporting events to enjoy right now. Oh, so that's why I was watching NASCAR.

That is easily the most farcical race I've ever seen. Although Larson finishing 2nd after restarting the GWC somewhere like 9th with 2 laps to make up ground is easily IIDOTR for him.
ROTR is surely Goodyear tyres, for simply not lasting on the bumps. The fans certainly got their money's worth of shredded rubber in their faces. Hell, 5 guys blew tyres in the last 8 laps! Too bad Cassill's gamble did not pay off.

I guess the only thing that could have been more improbable would be that Larson won and Bowyer flipped his car over on the last lap and yet again crossed the finish line on the lead lap.

Some things I noticed after the last race, the Auto Club 400:
Race #5
Top 5 finishers:
All with four-letter names.
Top 5 in the points standings, post-race:
All with four-letter names.
Top 5 pit crews:
All with four-letter driver names.
Winner of the race:
Led 5 laps.
Car #5 got less than 5 points. (also four-letter team owner name)
Kyle Larson (four letters) is 55 points behind the leader, Carl Edwards.
Lead changes: 35
Time of race: 3h:05

Several teams (Penske and SHR among them) admitted to running the tyre pressures lower than Goodyear said, and running camber, spring rates, and ride heights outside of Goodyears range. Of course they failed. Its Indy 2005 all over again. Toyota ran their tyre pressures wayyy below what Michelin said. At least there was no BS politics this time.

A solid 32nd place finish last night. Only six laps behind the winner this time.
It's all about taking small steps, and making sure you improve every time you go out onto
the track. Danica does this better than anyone else if you ask me. No need to rush things.
She has only crashed her car once in six races so far, and she has finished on the lead lap
in 16% of the races in 2014. She even led two laps at Daytona! Things are looking good for her.
I think we will see her second top 10 finish very soon..
Edit:

It's really too bad the race was rained out yesterday.
Danica posted her seventh best qualifying effort since her debut in the Cup.
I think she would have gotten some serious points this race.
But hey, we will see that today instead. Good luck, Danica!

Great run by the Outlaw. I have a new found respect for the man now. He has so much skill, if he would stop whinning and just drive, he could go places. But ROTR to Hendrick's engine department. Two big-time failures, and Jr. lost a hole. You only have one endure all year, how can you not make the engines last?

well, the 2014 Camping World Truck Series Mud-Summer Classic at Eldora Speedway finishes in a nail-biting final 20 laps!
though, i was pretty solid on the winner after Larson stopped caring about the paint finish on his truck, let alone the rear sway-bars.
An amazing and well deserved win for Darrell Wallace Jr. This is a very clear display of skill on his part, considering he himself said he wasn't too comfortable on the dirt.
Mr. Larson obviously had one-too-many dive bomb maneuvers by the final 10, but he never gave up until the penultimate lap, so major props to him for determination.
Ron Horniday had a decent shot at the win, until Larson started clouding up his path with debris and loose dirt from the cushion.

Those last 20 Laps are some of the best you will see at any of the top-3 NASCAR championships this year. Larson, quite literally, drove the wheels off that thing and came so close but so far. One of the drives of the year, and he only gets rewarded with 26th for his troubles. Always OK with a Bubba victory, even if the KBM equipment is the class of the field.

I've said for years that the Cup boys need at least two dirt races a year. Eldora and Knoxville ideally. Or fill in Bristol for one race (they've done it for sprint cars before)

my guess is if(or when) Cup racing returns to dirt, they'll probably run eldora and also default to Charlotte's dirt track for one big weekend or something. Heck, since it's a non-championship race, they should run the Allstar Race on the Dirt!....with cup cars! not like the Prelude to the Dream where they have WoO Latemodels with cup liveries

How about making the Coca Cola 600 wekkend a 1000 mile bonanza with the 600 mile race on the oval, a 200 mile race on the dirt track and a 200 mile race on the road course? All in cup cars of course!

Why not? Day 1: 200 mile race one, Coca-Cola 600 qualifying
Day 2: Indy 500, 200 mile race two, Coca-Cola 600
The second 200 mile race would give the drivers some time between the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.

As much as I support women making progress in motorsport, she isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination...

Make of that what you will. With the presumed shakeup coming to the schedule in the next few years, Eldora might slide in if Smoke gets the dome up.

Dale Jr is losing the National Guard after this season, leaving him with 19 races to find sponsors for next year.

It's Dale Jr. He'll have sponsors falling over themselves to sponsor him, especially now that he's good again. I wouldn't be surprised if he already has a replacement.
