GPM2, May The Best Manager Win 2 (2001)
GPM2, May The Best Manager Win 2 (2001)
After a lengthy delay it is back, 12 managers will step into the F1 ring and try and bring their team to glory. All teams will start with equal budget but beware, poor financial management will lead to financial collapse!
The year is 2001, the FIA has decided a radical shape up is needed for F1 to stay entertaining. From now on drivers are to be drafted at the start of each season, engines too. All teams are given a start budget of £20 Million which will need to not only last 1 year but for any future seasons. However, this was deemed unfair by the Ferrari and (the new for 2001)Toyota teams as they also need to develop their own engines, so they have been given a budget of £25 Million.
The 12 teams that are ready for a new season of racing are:
Ferrari
McLaren
Williams
Benetton
BAR
Jordan
Arrows
Sauber
Jaguar
Minardi
Prost
Toyota
May the Best Manager Win
-------------------------
For an idea what to expect, have a flick through the original game. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4743
But the 4 main key themes from the first game remain:
Hire and Fire drivers
Choose Engine supplier
Determine development direction
Cheat and steal!
The first thing that will be decided is drivers, which will be dealt with (and by popular demand) the draft order system from the first game where the team that has first pick of driver 1 will have last pick of driver 2. Whilst the team that has last pick of driver 1 will have first pick of driver 2 (hopefully leading to some kind of balance). So the first thing you guys should do is think of drivers you would be interested in signing for and if I haven't posted info about the driver, ask me what their salary would be.

Well, when I was planning the series the Masked Lapwing was coming up with ideas and showing interest in the series, and so I have reserved a team for him. But if he doesn't want it than I will see if I can pass it on.
Also there is a 13th team that will be controlled by the AI, so if you wish to go on a reserve list, first reserve can name the AI team and pick the drivers. In the last Manager game the AI team was "Asiatech."

Right, some of these are in the Mod, but their prices are way off where they should be, so I will value them.
Jeff Gordan 5.5 M
Tony Stewart 8 M ( yes 8 Million)
Gil de Ferran 1.8 M
Kenny Brack 1.8 M
Dario Franchitti 0.75 M
Paul Tracy 1.5 M
Sam Hornish, Jr. 1.5 M
Michael Andretti 2 M
You may think these are high, but these drivers are making mega bucks in the states and most would show little interest in F1.

Drivers will be decided in a rolling draft system, like in the first, May The Best Manager Win.
so teams will take turns in picking drivers, though it is okay to make a shortlist like that, I can't recommend it because you are letting the other teams know what drivers you want and they could swipe them.
Also Sarah Fisher is in the game and will cost 0.05 Million. She is pretty much willing to drive for free.
This is moving really fast, but very soon I will announce the draft order for drivers. I can make it so any driver you want takes part, so if you want to know how much a driver will cost than ask me and I will let you know.

Re: GPM2, May The Best Manager Win 2 (2001) Planning Stage
Ok with a full grid line up and many drivers to chose from, I can officially announce the draft order. All teams were put into a random draw to decide the pick order.
The order will be:
1.Ferrari
2.BAR
3.Sauber
4.Minardi
5.Jaguar
6.Jordan
7.Arrows To Ferrari to Williams
8.Prost
9.Benetton
10.Williams to Ferrari
11.McLaren
12.Toyota
with the order for picking the 2nd driver the reverse of that, so when Toyota come to pick their first driver they can pick their 2nd.
13.Toyota
14.McLaren
15.Williams
16.Benetton
17.Prost
18.Arrows
19.Jordan
20.Jaguar
21.Minardi
22.Sauber
23.BAR
24.Ferrari to Arrows
If you wish you can agree swap orders with another team, but both managers will have to agree! You can still ask me to price drivers whilst the draft is open.
So whenever they are ready Ferrari can begin the draft and announce who will be the first driver for 2001.
McLaren and Williams may have cause to feel upset, they were Ferrari's biggest challengers last season but will have to wait for most of the other teams to pick the crop of the drivers. Whilst the likes of BAR, Sauber and Minardi have an open opportunity for a surprise or two.
Jordan, Jaguar and Arrows have the middle choices, enjoying neither priority for 1st or 2nd drivers, they may have to wheel and deal.
The order will be:
1.Ferrari
2.BAR
3.Sauber
4.Minardi
5.Jaguar
6.Jordan
7.Arrows To Ferrari to Williams
8.Prost
9.Benetton
10.Williams to Ferrari
11.McLaren
12.Toyota
with the order for picking the 2nd driver the reverse of that, so when Toyota come to pick their first driver they can pick their 2nd.
13.Toyota

20.Jaguar
21.Minardi
22.Sauber
23.BAR
24.Ferrari to Arrows

Ferrari will hand a supply of works engines and the 24th pick over to Arrows in exchange for the 7th pick.
With the first pick of the F1 draft, Ferrari select Rubens Barrichello from Brazil.

As it appears I've got the second pick, BAR will choose Germany's Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

Re: GPM2, May The Best Manager Win 2 (2001) Planning Stage
Oh, for the record. There is a bug in GPM2 that means all rookie drivers are really slow in human hands. To get round the bug, all drivers with less than 3 stars in "experience" will be boosted to 3 with minor tweaking to other stats to offset the change. So there is no reason to fear signing rookies beyond the fact that they may crash a little more often (as you would normally expect from rookies)
I should also have explained earlier, but Pay Drivers will only pay for races that they qualify for. So if they are TD or DNQ then they won't give you any money.
Also, GMP2 is very unforgiving with injuries. With drivers sometimes getting injured or sick every 3 or 4 races or so! So when it comes round to naming testers, it may be wise to secure a semi-decent one.

I picked Sauber for one reason; it's my true home. Its drabness and dullness really resonate with me, because I too am a dullard.
To hit this fact home even further, I can only pick one driver at this time. Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to be signing Nick Heidfeld!
