2014 Austrian GP ROTR
2014 Austrian GP ROTR
Red Bull - It's their home race. 3 of their 4 cars are out and they account for all the retirements so far. Plus Ricciardo is nowhere near scoring another win.

The race just ended right now! Don't you know how many RotR nominations turn out to be awful because of some tidbit of information breaking the news days after the race ends?

Williams' Strategists: Could very easily have won the race by simply pitting before the Mercedes cars both times, and using greater straight-line speed to stay ahead. Kept both cars out far too long at pitstops 1 & 2, and gifted Mercedes another 1-2. Not the first dodgy Williams call this year, either.

I'd also nominate the FOM TV director for showing virtually nothing of Bottas crossing the line to get his podium. I know Ricciardo was battling Hulk but it was so disappointing.

CGI advertisements are certainly rejectful, but they are a bit like bad directing, hard to actually be bad enough to win a single award. They've been awful all year.
Perhaps we should have a lifetime achievement award for perpetual rejectness haha.

Yes, but that wasn't an advertisement. It was a cringe-worthy brown-nose to Bernie and Mateschitz.

True, this is a new level, but I don't mind too much Mateschitz getting a bit of credit, I am really thankful for his investment to get the track on the calendar.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP ROTR
Pretty sure the trophies are replicas of brake discs with the wooden "calipers" in the shape of the outline of Austria's border.
ROTR can either go to Red Bull or perhaps Guttierez who had a pretty dire race and couldn't even get back in touch with the Caterhams and Marussias. Lotus were pretty poor as well.

Definitely strong contenders - Ricciardo salvaged a little pride for them, but for three of your four cars to break down at the very circuit you own will be a big dent to Red Bull's pride. It's even more awkward given that Kvyat, at least, could have scored a decent haul of points (maybe even beating the main Red Bull team), whereas now instead they've allowed Ferrari to close the gap back up to them slightly.
Speaking of Ferrari, Kimi was very anonymous this weekend as well - whilst his poor qualifying position was a little unlucky (albeit self inflicted), he failed to make any impression for the rest of the race and ended up losing rather than gaining positions. In fact, whilst Alonso has finished inside the top six in all but one race, Kimi, even if some of his misfortunes have not been his own fault, has not finished inside the top six in even one race.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP ROTR
At first, I was going to nominate Vettel for his contact with Gutiérrez, simply because that was the most rejectful thing of the race so far.
But now I have to give it to Toro Rosso. Seriously, how many times have those brakes failed?
I won't count Vettel's retirement in the ROTR, as I'm fairly sure that they retired the car because they were too far back and about to get penalized.

I'm going to go the way of saying Kimi Raikkonen. On the same weekend where Alonso described Massa as the fastest teammate he's ever had in F1, Kimi certainly didn't do a lot to demonstrate why it should be him instead.

Only one rotr really qualifies. Red Bull. Double DNF for STR, DNF for Vettel and a Hero to Zero performance for Ricciardo... in their home race.
As far as Kimi goes, it's getting obvious that he's had enough. When he was told he was racing Button over the radio, his response? "I need a bit more power to do that". So the Iceman most likely has stopped giving a crap, tired of driving a shitbox. a damn Shame :/

Re: 2014 Austrian GP ROTR
Well, not a difficult choice today
1)Red Bull Brand: Only DannyRicky salvaged a poor weekend for the local teams. Vettel was abandoned by his car at the beggining, and the STR's brake gave away. Worst of all: in home soil, and even the Caterhams manage to get to the flag
2)Williams Strategy: Once again, Williams toss away the chance to get away with a victory.
Dishonorable mentions to Lotus (who?), Sauber (more and more looking like Marussia and Caterham) and Bernie thanking Mateschitz (stop sucking, Bernie)
The What did Webber do to Me Award goes to Sebastian Vettel with a sever case of Webberitis :p

The trophies sure look weird, but I'd rather have those than the silver plates / dish wares or generic santander logo trophy
As for Kimi, while true that he was around half a sec slower than alonso since friday, I think his race was destroyed by another strange strategy. It's not the first time this season that it gets very obvious that he'll be undercut by a bunch of cars and ferrari does nothing about it. He can't simply show up in the pits, naturally..so I wouldn't blame him for that. His pace is nowhere though...

Re: 2014 Austrian GP ROTR
Before reading this thread, my thought for ROTR was Bernie's message to Dietrich via the world feed (as per photo above). Is that how Bernie thinks Twitter/social media works?!
But I also agree with the nominations for the Red Bull racing cars. I wouldn't say Williams because they finally managed to get to best of the rest with both cars behind the two Mercs, despite the strategy.
And I like the trophies being distinctive and unique...

Sauber made a case for ROTR. As Gutierrez was spotted with loose wheel, they first called Sutil to stop. Then realizing the mistake, Sutil was given "go" signal and Gutierrez was called to stop.
Looking at the lap times, I say that cost Sutil about eight seconds. Not bad but inexcusable mistake.

Re: 2014 Austrian GP ROTR
Well, I won't give my ROTR to Red Bull. Instead, I give it for Vettel. Once again, beaten by Ricciardo and now by Kvyat, in the qualify. Not only this, but in the race, when he rejoined in the track after the traction problem, he almost crashed with his team mate and finished the day crashing with Sutil while trying to unlap himself.
Special mention to:
Hamilton: Lose the victory by his error in qualify. If he keeps with this form, he will lose the title.
Raikkonen and Button: Both need to retire.
Williams Strategists: I don't think Williams had chances of win the race, but the strategy wasn't the best for the race.
"The lower middle-field": Toro Rosso, Lotus and Sauber, all rejectful in this weekend.
Bernie Ecclestone: Go home! Also, despite to be good the A1 Ring back in the calendar, there are a lot of sections without a catch fence in this track. If someone fly somewhere, a tragedy could happen.

Esteban Gutierrez - What a jackass. Can we please have Giedo Van Der God in that seat next season?
Team Enstone - Were more anonymous than the mob from Hinwil for once.
That CGI message - Thanks a bunch FOM.
But really, there is only one possible choice for ROTR
The Red Bull Conglomerate - There was three retirements in this race. All of them were Red Bull cars. Add to that the total shambles of a weekend that Vettel had, Ricciardo being anonymous as hell, and this being their home race more or less and yeah, clear-cut ROTR.

Whilst I agree that Kimi's form over the course of the season has been poor relatively to Alonso, even allowing for reliability issues, I would argue that Button's form over the course of the season hasn't been that bad.
He's generally been on par or slightly ahead of Magnussen in qualifying, he is ahead of him in the standings and finished ahead of Magnussen in most races this season - he leads Magnussen 43 points to 29 right now and has fairly consistently finished ahead of Magnussen too. It is true that Button can sometimes get lost with setting up a car and go into awkward slumps in form, but given that Magnussen has been relatively low key since Australia, it would suggest that Button is delivering a reasonably solid job.

Has to be Red Bull, their performance makes that awful CGI graphic particularly embarrassing.
Honourable mention to Kimi. I almost feel like he conned his way into that Ferrari drive to get another big payout when they have to again sever his contract early. More fool them for signing him. I really hate seeing drivers not giving a crap, when there are many that would make great use of that seat.
