Google Navigation Challenge - Micronations

Post by SuperAguri »

There are five micronations in mainland europe these are Andora, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City (yes there is also Malta but it's not on mainland europe and Gibraltar is a British dependancy).

So this challenge is to visit all five micronations, gaining points on the way.

Rules

You can start in any microstate and you must start as near to the centre of the microstate as possible. Every other one you visit you must drive through it, ie you must get to the centre and leave a different way to which you came in (every country you can, even Vatican City, although you will have to force Google maps to do so, see here http://goo.gl/maps/WzkRP).

When you get to your last microstate you must drive to the centre before finishing.

You must travel no more then 10 hours a day, you lose a point for every second you are over. No stopping to walk to the hotel unless there is no direct road.

You can travel via car or by a ferry route but no planes.

You must stop at a hotel, lodge, inn, hostel, b&b, rentalable holiday apartment and hovel that can be found with booking.com or google maps. No camping trips or sleeping in the car.

You have 5 days (ie 50 hours of travel) to complete the challenge.

Points...

25 points for being bang on 10 hours (losing 5 points every minute you are out so you get 5 points for 9hr 56m and nothing for any less).

10 points for every race track you visit (you just need to drive past it on the nearest road), bonus of 5 if it has hosted an F1 race

15 points for any defunct race track (must supply evidence)

5 points for every football ground you visit

10 points for every exclave you pass through.

10 points for every ex-microstate you visit too.

2 points for every other country you visit (you do not get any points for the the micronations).

1 bonus point if you stay in a five star hotel (as rated on booking.com or other reliable source) at the end of your day.

You also get 1 point for every 5 minutes you are under 50 hours when you finish.

10 bonus points for the shortest and longest route (in Kms)

You lose one point for every second you are over the 10 hours, so don't be late.

Failing to finish the challenge will score you a big fat zero!

How to enter.

On Sunday 21st, you must post day 1 and post the next entries on the following days

You must give a link to a google route (you can post screens but I need to check your route for timing) and your start and end positions, kms travelled, time travelled and extras visited. Use this handy form.

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?

That's between me and my internet service provider.

Malta is a legitimate microstate and is easy to reach by ferry

I believe SuperAguri wanted people to navigate within continental Europe, so places like Malta or Iceland are out of question here.
But that might be just me misunderstanding the rules, as usual :P

I'm going to give this a miss this time because I know nothing about football grounds and will thus end up missing a lot as a result. Even if I do try Google!

I feel this is a bit too much at the same time. I like the idea of involving themes (i even proposed it) but this sounds more like a great season finale rather than a championship leg. I fear that 1) some people will agree with me and 2) most people will simply not have the time to do this right.
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

I agree.

Well-put. I wanted to say it but was not quite sure how. What I put earlier is my way of implying the same (knowing little about football grounds would require more time than I would be willing in invest - ie too much at the same time).
