Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2014 Japan

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for JEV's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until the 10th October

1. Jenson Button - Great drive that showed why he's considered one of the best in wet conditions.
2. Marcus Ericsson - Despite the spin under the safety car he's managed to finish ahead of the other backmarkers. He seems to be pretty handy around Suzuka.

1 - Button: His best race of the season. Maybe it was his last hurray before the retirement. Well done.

2 - Ericsson: Ahead of Kobayashi in Suzuka is quite something.
Waiting for Lotus hiring Johnny Cecotto jr.

1) Button
2) Hulkenberg

Honorable mention to Bianchi before his stop, seeing him in P3 was surreal

1. Button: Clearly one of his best races of the year, and maybe one of the last good races of his F1 Career.
2. EDITED: After the aftermath of yesterday, I feel liek my second nomination should be for Bianchi. He managed to get to third, even though it was a pit stop period.

1. Jean-Éric Vergne: From the back of the grid to the points. Really the most surprising result of the day.
2. Jenson Button: Once again, he gets the strategy right when it's wet. Deserved a podium for his drive.

1. Gonna put Jules Bianchi here - really great, albeit unusual, to see a Marussia in third, even if it were during a pitstop period.
2. Button

No nomination on both RotR and IIDotR fronts until we get more info about Jules.

Same for me. It doesn't feel right to nominate people before we know about the condition of one of the drivers.

1. Button - admittedly his very early change to inters helped, but it was great to see him running so strongly - especially when this is increasingly looking like his last season.

2. JEV - great charge from the back into the points that I got to see to little of, unfortunately. It's hard not to feel for JEV, he clearly deserves another opportunity but it's not clear to me where he could get one now.
