104% Rule Alternate qualifying system

Post by Frogfoot9013 »

This alternate qualifying system forces drivers to have to lap within 104% of pole instead of the more conventional 107%. No 'exceptional circumstances' as well.
I will start at the very beginning with the 1950 British GP:
Pole Time: 1:50.8
104% Time: 1:55.2
Qualified: Nino Farina, Luigi Fagioli, Juan Manuel Fangio, Reg Parnell, Prince Bira, Yves Giraud-Cabantous
DNQ: Eugene Martin, Toulo de Graffenried, Louis Rosier, Peter Walker, Louis Chiron, Leslie Johnson, Bob Gerard, Phillipe Etancelin, Cuth Harrison, David Hampshire, Geoffery Crossley, David Murray, Joe Kelly, Joe Fry, Johnny Claes.

In other words, the first Grand Prix would have been a six-car race like Indy '05! :P

1950 Monaco GP:
Pole: 1:50.2
104% Time: 1:54.6
Qualified: Juan Manuel Fangio, Nino Farina, Jose Froilan Gonzalez, Phillipe Etancelin, Luigi Fagioli, Luigi Villoresi, Alberto Ascari
DNQ: Louis Chiron, Raymond Sommer, Louis Rosier, Robert Manzon, Toulo de Graffenried, Maurice Trintignant, Cuth Harrison, Prince Bira, Bob Gerard, Franco Rol, Alfredo Pian, Johnny Claes, Harry Schell, Peter Whitehead.

Another puny grid for Monaco, with just seven cars. :P

How about doing the results for a whole season in one post, instead of one GP at a time?

Oh, you're actually doing it! But yeah, I think it would be a better idea to post at the very least a whole season in one post. Trust me, it will be a whole lot simpler. ;)
