F1 Rejects Football World Cup
Re: F1 Rejects Football World Cup
Lol Gibralter and Vanuatu as opponents.
I'd say I want Luxembourg next but then I would end up with a crappy team steal. So bring on Germany.

Err....doesn't quite work that way, unfortunately. Though implied, but not stated, Team Steals can only happen before the draw for the next round. So, if you do end up with Luxembourg or the Faroe Islands, tough luck. If you end up with Belgium or Czech Republic or even Colombia, provided Team Steals and lucky draws go your way, that could be a much more valuable steal that Australia.
In retrospect, it's quite fun. And evil. I like it that way.

Ok then, Germany will steal the Aussies team now.

When I saw the draw I thought "Oh no, Scotlands bad luck with qualy draws even extends to F1 Rejects!"
But then...

Scotland will definately use their team steal now!

Scotland will definately use their team steal now!

Slight update here, for those who have not announced Team Steals (just two of you I do believe), you have until tomorrow to announce whether you're doing it or not, or otherwise I imply you aren't stealing any team for this round.

F1RFWC Round 3: Quarter-Finals
Format
Teams that have either won their Round of 16 fixture or been 'stolen' progress into this round. Home and Away fixture, away goals rule apply. Should there be a tie, a neutral third leg is played on a neutral pitch somewhere in Qatar. Hermann95, peteroli34, This and Shadaza are forced to use their Team Steals this round should they win.
------------------------------------------
Korea DPR (peteroli34) vs Colombia (Collieafc)
Korea DPR may have beaten Albania, but they face their toughest challenge in Colombia, freshly stolen after losing to Scotland. After that loss, though, it may be tough for them to regain composure, but this should still be a win for the Colombians on paper.
Luxembourg (This) vs Austria (Hermann95)
Hermann95 did not get the luck of the draw. He's got a good chance of progressing against Luxembourg, but now he has to face the prospect of managing them in the semis. Ouch. However, I'm not placing any wild bets after Luxembourg beat New Zealand in the round of 16, so a good win for Luxembourg could see a healthy team steal for This.
Australia (roblomas52) vs Costa Rica (Reject_Dom)
Manager roblomas52 ditched powerful Germany for Australia to be on the safe side for this round, but facing Costa Rica may prove to be a challenging, but not impossible, task for the Aussies. And with manager Reject_Dom having used his team steal on them, Costa Rica look set to progress to the final.
Norway (andrew) vs Faroe Islands (Shadaza)
Norway look like favourites to go through in this fixture, but the Faroe Islands can be known for holding their own against this strength of opposition, so we'll see whether manager Shadaza can steal a sweeter Scandinavian side.

Well, now I would very much like the Faroe Islands to NOT take any inspiration from Luxembourg.

Quarter-Finals
Korea DPR vs Colombia(peteroli34 vs Collieafc)
1st Leg @ Pyongyang: North Korea 1-2 Colombia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 73 mins
1-1 Right Winger (7) 73 mins
1-2 Forward (10) 76 mins
2nd Leg @ Bogota: Colombia 2-4 North Korea
Goalscorers:
0-1 Midfielder (8) 1 mins
0-2 Right Back (2) 43 mins
0-3 Striker (9) 47 mins
0-4 Right Back (2) 58 mins
1-4 Left Back (3) 68 mins
2-4 Striker (9) 75 mins
Aggregate: North Korea 5-4 Colombia
No, I'm NOT lying. That 2nd leg actually happened. After a loss in their first leg at home, North Korea went all guns blazing in the second, scoring just 23 seconds in after a defensive mishap. Then they scored another before the break. Then one after the break. Then another one after that. Colombia then scored two goals, kinda like the first game. In the first leg, though, that gave them lead. Here, it was just a failed start of a comeback, and Colombia have lost their second game, and stolen the second time as well.
-----------------------------------------
Luxembourg vs Austria(This vs Hermann95)
1st Leg @ Luxembourg City: Luxembourg 2-2 Austria
Goalscorers:
0-1 Left Winger (11) 38 mins
1-1 Forward (10) 62 mins
2-1 Defensive Midfielder (6) 68 mins
2-2 Striker (9) 81 mins
2nd Leg @ Salzburg: Austria 1-2 Luxembourg
Goalscorers:
0-1 Forward (10) 43 mins
1-1 Left Winger (11) 60 mins
1-2 Forward (10) 63 mins
Aggregate: Luxembourg 4-3 Austria
Again, I shite you not. This actually happened. Seriously. Not lying. Luxembourg did pretty well at home, then two lucky goals from their forward and some desperate defending gave them the win in the Quarter-Finals, and earned This a healthy team steal in Austria, although they may not be as strong as once thought after that loss.
-----------------------------------------
Australia vs Costa Rica(roblomas52 vs Reject_Dom)
1st Leg @ Brisbane: Australia 0-1 Costa Rica
Goalscorers:
0-1 Forward (10) 81 mins
2nd Leg @ San Jose: Costa Rica 1-2 Australia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 32 mins
1-1 Right Winger (7) 51 mins
1-2 Forward (10) 59 mins
Aggregate: Australia 2-2 Costa Rica (Away Goals Rule)
Australia did enough, just, to progress to the quarter finals. After losing the first leg, they came back with two goals in the second half of the second leg to progress in this overall cagey affair.
-----------------------------------------
Norway vs Faroe Islands(andrew vs Shadaza)
1st Leg @ Oslo: Norway 2-0 Faroe Islands
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 15 mins
2-0 Striker (9) 40 mins
2nd Leg @ Tórshavn: Faroe Islands 1-3 Norway
Goalscorers:
0-1 Right Back (2) 27 mins
0-2 Forward (10) 43 mins
1-2 Centre Back (4) 46 mins
1-3 Forward (10) 76 mins
Aggregate: Norway 5-1 Faroe Islands
This fixture is probably the only one that went the way everyone predicted, with Norway easily sailing past the Faroe Islands into the quarter-finals, though give credit to the Faroese, they put up quite a decent display, but not enough to see them take the win in either leg.
1st Leg @ Pyongyang: North Korea 1-2 Colombia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 73 mins
1-1 Right Winger (7) 73 mins
1-2 Forward (10) 76 mins

F1RFWC Round 4: Semi-Finals
Format
By this round, all managers should have used their Team Steals, so no team steals are allowed from here on out. Home and Away fixture, away goals rule apply. Should there be a tie, a neutral third leg is played on a neutral pitch somewhere in Qatar.
------------------------------------------
Australia (roblomas52) vs Colombia (peteroli34)
Colombia in this tournament have been downright disappointing. Only in the tournament by virtue of the Team Steal rule, their losses to both Scotland and Korea DPR have been downright embarrassing for them. They may get third times the charm against Australia, but they've already beaten another disappointing Team Steal team in Costa Rica, and should they continue that form, Australia could very well progress into the final.
Austria (This) vs Norway (andrew)
Sadly, due to the team steal rule, Luxembourg are not in the semi-finals, but they have definitely left a mark on the Austrians, who may face this game with a newfound fire within them. And having trashed Cyprus in their first round, they seem ready to bounce back against Norway, who did pretty well to force Belgium into a Qatar tie-breaker in the opening round.

Australia vs Colombia(roblomas52 vs peteroli34)
1st Leg @ Melbourne:Australia 2-6 Colombia
Goalscorers:

1-1 Forward (10) 46 mins
2-1 Striker (9) 70 mins
3-1 Left Winger (11) 72 mins
Aggregate: Australia 3-9 Colombia
Having tasted humble pie in their previous 2 match ups, Colombia made amends for their downright horrid first two games by demolishing Australia in both legs, though one cannot blame the Aussies for putting up a tough fight against them.
----------------------------------------
Austria vs Norway(This vs andrew)
1st Leg @ Vienna:Austria 3-2 Norway
Goalscorers:

3-1 Striker (9) 87 mins
3-2 Right Winger (7) 89 mins
2nd Leg @ Oslo:Norway 0-0 Austria
Goalscorers:
None
Aggregate: Austria 3-2 Norway
This fixture was even all the way through, with both teams going on attack mode in the first game, while the second fixture saw the Austrians put up some incredible defense (more than they showed against Luxembourg, evidently) and played the game to a scoreless draw, taking them through to the finals, though with the help of This' team steal.
----------------------------------------
Final: Austria vs Colombia
Both teams have suffered upsets to minor opposition. They got stolen by worthy managers, This and peteroli34. And now, one match to take all the glory. One match in Qatar for the crown. One match to decide the first ever F1RFWC Champion.

Austria vs Colombia(This vs peteroli34)
Final @ Doha:
Austria 1-0 Colombia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 43 mins
This was a cagey final in the raging Qatari heat. Both teams seemed exhausted playing out there, and breathed a heavy sigh of relief when the half-time whistle blew. By then, Austria had already gone a goal up, through some fantastic set-piece trickery, helped by average defending from the Colombians. The second half saw Colombia go on all-out attack, but the piles of defensive pressure from Austria helped wear down the Colombians and clinched the title for them and their manager, This.
----------------------------------------
Well then, that's the first edition of the F1RFWC. Congrats to This, who managed to win with his initial choice of Luxembourg, before putting his team steal to good use. Next time that I hold this (next year probably), tell me what changes you want to make. Group stages? No Team Steals? Random Teams each game? Just let me know!
And thanks everyone for participating!

Re: F1 Rejects Football World Cup
My gamble paid off! But yeah, nobody was expecting Luxembourg would be this good...
well, i think we need more participants if we want to have a group stage.
There are 209 teams on the FIFA ranking, so my proposal is that every manager can pick 3 teams. One team in the 1-70 range, one team in the 71-140 range, and one team in the 141-209 range. This way we are ensured of a good mix, and lots of surprising results. Also i suggest that one manager has to pick teams from 3 different continental zones.

I agree with this, if it means dropping team steals. It does seem strange that in a knockout format, Columbia can lose thier first 2 games yet still be in the final.
That being said, I used them as a team steal so maybe its just sour grapes on my part (though it does give Scotland a Brawn-like record of played 1 wins 1, wins 100%!
