At the end of 1986, FIA announces that turbo engines has become so dangerous and it will be banned from 1989.
In this parallel universe, someone got an idea to make F1's race more action packed, by shortening the races into 60 km! 39 entries shows up for 1989 gives FIA another idea: Allow all cars to run at the same time! With the shakedown of the new rules finished, F1 got a nickname of "Formula 1 Sprint Series". One more turn around: Tracks that have hosted F1 in the past are no longer allowed except some like Monaco. Why? To shake the calendar up.

A driver under pseudom "giraty" arrives in 1989 after a third place finish in both F3000 and Japan F3000 with some drives at World Sportscar. Looking for seat, he got a deal with Lola (Larrousse) for 1989. However the team are not ready yet with the new car, and instead run with the updated LC88, called LC88B for Brazil. Larrousse got chassis designed by Lola and engine supplied by Lamborghini with their V12 engine. All looking good into the season.
