I for one welcome our Lada overlords!
Lada is sponsoring the Renault team and could potentially increase their involvement in the future. http://en.espnf1.com/renault/motorsport/story/9950.html
I think this is great news for all Rejectfans as a Russian automaker in F1 is pure Reject gold. Let the "In Soviet Russia" jokes begin!

How quaint it will be if Kubica romps to success and Championship glory on a Lada-sponsored car...

Stay home, Colin Kolles!

Gen2's Gerard Lopes will have made a good investment if it turns out that Lada buy them out in a few years. The name Avtovaz Racing Team sounds really cool somewhat.
"I don't think we should be used to finance (the manufacturers') R&D because they will produce that engine anyway" said Monisha Kaltenborn.

Hurrah for Lada! Could we have a Russian Bears racing team like they ran in WTCC one day?

Maybe he is considering becoming a F1 team boss.

I thorght Lada had gone under, i'm guessing they got a state bailout for Putin to be part of this news

Hmm...does this mean James Thompson could make his F1 debut at some point? I'm all for touring car drivers in F1.

I have a feeling that has a lot to do with Vitaly Petrov and the supposed problems his father had with raising for the drive, I'm guessing Vladimir Putin just couldn't let the Russian driver down. And of course there is the Renault's 1/4 of Lada ownership connection.

However if you are properly plastered and can't drive 200 yards without crashing into the tree by the roadside, at least you've got the safest possible ever to crash in. Thanks Robert!*

Speaking of which some drunk moron in an Audi A4 crashed through the fence in front of my grandmother house and almost hit a tree on New Years Eve several years ago...
I wasn't there until several days later but I knew it was an A4 cause of the collection of debris scattered all over the place as a result

And the moral of the story is...Audis are driven by people who are far too full of themselves.

Being one of the biggest fans of Ladas ever since I was a kid in the 1980s (yes, rejectdom is in my blood), this is one of the most epic, brilliant pieces of news EVER.
Oh the joys of the Lada Niva and the Lada Samara:

Can you believe how overjoyed I was when Lada entered the WTCC last year?

Now we know why they've pulled out of the WTCC this year - bigger fish to fry!!!

Still, this is a shame. In WTCC they were just starting to be competitive!

You'd have liked the episode of Top Gear when they drove a Lada Niva (along with a whole host of Eastern Block cars)...
Actually, a few manufactueres outside of the traditional companies are lining up to sponsor F1 teams. Wasn't there talk recently of Tata planning to sponsor Ferrari (because Fiat was been working with Tata to conduct research and development, as well as trying to break into the Indian car industry)?
Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning:
"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"

zastava is part of the fiat group (well they produce old fiat punto's so i assume they're part of fiat) i don't think their toyota-connection will allow this, sadly

I don't know what i want and i want it now!
Re: I for one welcome our Lada overlords!
So if they win the WDC or WMC does the driver get his own Lada Nevada?

Re: I for one welcome our Lada overlords!
Peter Brock once endorsed Ladas in the late 1980's after his infamous split with Holden. One motoring journalist suggested that Lada should have adopted Brock's HDT slogan "We Build Excitement" and modified it slightly to "We Build Excrement". I also read somewhere that the official Lada importers for Australia had to spend $2000 on each Lada Samara so they could comply with the Australian Design Rules.

I smells Räikkönen for Renault(Lada) for 2011?

I got Pointed Opinions and I ain't afraid to use em!
F1rejects no.1Räikkönen and Vettel fan.
BTW, thats Räikkönen with two K's and two N's. Not Raikonnen (Raikkonen is fine if you have no umlauts though)

Ah dammit, you beat me to the first reference of the mighty Yugo.
I've wanted a Yugo 55 for a few years now. Kind of like a squashed and rubbish Golf Mk.I.
And how can this picture not stir the senses!

And think of the paint saving, they could just rename it RUSF1.

In Soviet Russia, the car drives you
In Soviet Russia, a driver manages his manager
In Soviet Russia, teams don't fold. The teams fold their owners.
Etc.

I think Putin just didn't realize that they canned the "gold medal" proposal, and is trying to make up for the Olympics...
Re: I for one welcome our Lada overlords!
In Soviet Russia, every grid slot is 1st but RUF F1 is extra 1st.
Re: I for one welcome our Lada overlords!
Lada exporte cars to Brazil in the early 90s and stopped after disastrous sales record. Their cars gained a solid reputation for being a complete pile of junk. The sponsorship actually fits the prospects for Renault in 2010.
