Re: F1 1984+
Qualifying Results:
Although Ferrari had made the headlines in the two-week North American break since Detroit, few expected a front row-lockout by Prost and de Angelis at a swelteringly-hot Dallas. McLaren were enjoying smaller-and-smaller returns from their increasingly expensive development programme compared to other teams, and for the first time, the red-and-white Marlboro-clad cars struggled to keep-up at the front. Ken Tyrrell was all-smiles, watching his drivers consistently set quicker-and-quicker times. Ferrari's third car, driven by Dider Pironi, making his return to the sport, qualified a quiet but respectable thirteenth. The Frenchman was sandwiched by both Tolemans, who's well-sorted chassis again handled well on a circuit that was little more than a car park with road cones and asbestos blocks defining the track boundaries. In fact, so good was the Toleman chassis and driver pairings, that the team managed to out-qualify one of the 850+ horsepower Brabham-Renaults. The works Renault cars barely made it into the top twenty, both Alboreto and Lauda embarased by Swedish youngster Stefan Johansson's ATS. Further back, the Osellas made the grid, and de Cesaris managed to out-qualify Guerrero's superior RAM car on a heavily chassis-dependent track.

Race Results:
Despite good qualifying pace, the Alfa Romeo team were destined not to score in Dallas, as Martini blew-up on the second lap, and Wilson was soon caught-up in a low-speed pile-up with the McLarens at the circuit's penultimate hairpin, caused by her own stupidity. For the Toleman team, it was a race of mixed fortunes; Jones - struggling to maintain his concentration with the heat - hit the wall at a forty-five degree angle, and although the DFV engine was still running, the car was crabbing as a result of the impact; later inspection at the team's factory found the monocoque had a small crack. Boutsen, however, scored the team's desperately-needed first point. Warwick couldn't hold on to third place, and dropped behind Mansell's Lotus as the race progressed. Patrese mostly stayed out of trouble; other than a heavily-flatspotted front left tyre, he climbed from sixteenth to fifth, for a well-deserved two points. But it was a Gala ocassion for the Ferrari team; despite Pironi spinning-out on his first race back, Prost and de Angelis maintained their order throughout the race, to a popular victory.
A race that had been far too hot and rather poorly surfaced, the FIA announced on Monday that Formula One would not be returning to the Dallas street circuit for 1985.

Re: F1 1984+
Qualifying Results:
His confidence growing by the race, Arnoux just sneaked pole ahead of a surprise lap by the otherwise-unremarkable Pierluigi Martini. Both the Tyrrells qualified strongly again, and the British crowd appreciated Pironi's brilliant fifth-place on the grid, with all three Ferraris lining up in a cluster. Piquet spent more time joking around in the paddock with McLaren mechanics than on the track; one might suggest he was trying to conceal a lack of pace. Excellent qualifying performance from Steffan Bellof in his Williams, who seemed at home on the crests and dips of Brands Hatch. Only just making the grid were the Renaults - Alboreto almost DNQ-ed, and both he and Lauda had been out-qualified by the Osella team; embarrassing, indeed.

Race Results:
Arnoux's win gave him a ten-point lead in the championship; Piquet's DNF was an extra blow to the Brazilian, his suspension believed to have a manufacturing fault, which caused it to quickly break from kerb abuse. Recent downforce improvements helped Mansell's Lotus into a hard-driven fourth place, from tenth on the grid. With a heavy helping of luck, this was elevated to second shortly before the end of the race, when both Tyrrells retired from second and third. A very solid drive from Patrese saw him move through the field, his exhaust aflame, overtaking cars around the back of the circuit, on route to what would eventually be third place. Bellof's qualifying speed came through on its promise, and he moved-up to an outstanding fourth-place finish; his team-mate Senna was stuck behind Boutsen's Toleman when his radiator failed. The Ferrari team collected the leftover points, with Pironi delighted to finish sixth behind Prost. Both the Tolemans finished strongly, and would have needed only one or two cars ahead of them dropping-out, to pick up more points. Lauda's disappointing ninth place finish - in a car that was apparently in ship-shape - left doubts over whether Renault's Formula One programme was worth continuing with.

Re: F1 1984+
The planned first-ever Spanish Grand Prix in the city of Fuengirola has been cancelled, according to a press release by the FIA. President Bernie Ecclestone was reported by the British media to be 'furious' over the lack of progress made by Spanish workers in the city, and by the Spanish government's refusal to displace further funds so that the street-based track would be up-to standard.
Despite repeated visits to the city - initially by Formula One executives, and last week by Mr Ecclestone himself - the circuit was "not bloody ready", according to the latter in an interview, yesterday.
A hastily-organized Portuguese Grand Prix at the Estoril track will replace Fuengirola on the 21st October.
