1. Paul di Resta: Admirable job in very difficult circumstances.
2. Fernando Alonso: Sixth place and fastest lap in a McLaren-Honda.

Re: 2017 Magyar Nagydij - IIDOTR Voting
1. Alonso - whilst Stoffel did manage to secure a point, Alonso's 6th place not only finally lifts the team above Sauber, he also managed to pick up the fastest lap for good measure. Out of the two, Alonso really maximised the performance of the car quite a bit more than Stoffel did.
2. Sainz - I feel this is more by default to some extent, but it was a solid performance and a decent but clean tussle with Alonso on track as well.
HM - di Resta - given his lack of experience with the car, he did manage to acquit himself respectably enough.

Re: 2017 Magyar Nagydij - IIDOTR Voting
1- Alonso- Mclaren are no longer in dead last in the CC!!!! I cannot see them getting any higher than 9th but at one point in the season, 0 points were on the Horizon! 6th and the fastest lap
2- Di Resta- I will give him credit for going into that car without testing it (or any other 2017 car) and managing to do a half decent race- it's a pity he didn't finish but to be fair to Williams saving the engine was far more important.

IIDoTR:
1. Alonso: Not only a very creditable sixth place, but fastest lap as well, all in a McHonda! Mind you, they are improving...
2. di Resta: Drove a classy weekend considering the circumstances- with no practice time in the car at all, he easily qualified, drove at a pace close to his teammate in the race (and faster than the Saubers for the most part) and then stood aside without fuss to help Massa in Spa with a new engine.
HM:
Sainz: a return to old form.
Hamilton: credit where it's due, that was very sporting to let Bottas back through
Vandoorne: much better, and with a decent pit stop could have been up with Alonso.

1st Hamilton & Mercedes Bottas dropping off the front 3 and being under pressure from Verstappen was all the justification they needed to not swap Bottas & Hamilton back, but they stuck to the promise when I genuinely didn't think they would. Fair play.

Alonso - Track assisted, maybe, but still a great result.
Hamilton - How will the anti-Hamilton mob spin that into a negative?

Re: 2017 Magyar Nagydij - IIDOTR Voting
1. Alonso - McLaren upped their game this weekend, but I doubt anyone other than Fernando would have finished as high as 6th for them and get a fastest lap. The smallest sniff of a result and this guy will be all over it.
2. Hamilton - He'd have been forgiven (at least by the British press) for not giving the place back to Bottas, but he did and managed to find a way to do so without losing out to Verstappen. Well played (but let's not go mad)

2. Kimi I guess. Shame he's the new Irvine/Barrichello/Massa.

1. Alonso - 6th place and FL, plus the usual battle with Sainz.
2. Hamilton - It goes to great lengths about him how an act of sportsmanship can lead him to an IIDOTR nomination.
HM to DiResta - it ain't easy to spring in a car and get accustomed in a couple of minutes, even if you know the track.

(1) Honda engine delivering genuine power and reliability for two race distances.
(2) Verstappen putting the Ferraris and Mercedes under genuine pressure after his penalty; he could have had Bottas with another three laps.

Only took me two months, but here goes!
1. Fernando Alonso 92
2. Paul di Resta 48
3. McLaren-Honda 42
4. Lewis Hamilton 41
5. Carlos Sainz Jr. 16
6. Stoffel Vandoorne 10
7. Kevin Magnussen 6
- Kimi Räikönnen 6
- Max Verstappen 6
10. Mercedes 5
So before the Summer break, Fernando Alonso takes the coveted IIDOTR award for his and McLaren's performance in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Finishing sixth with a fastest lap, when considering every other race so far this season, could be called something of an achievement! The comeback kid, the Prince of Charisma, Paul di Resta gets a worthy runner-up position for his ability to make the most out of a weekend and a car he was not expecting to be driving in. He did well under the circumstances, and deserves respect for it.
