The chaos train is back for another season of ruined evenings. Basic bureaucracy out of the way first.

The Cars

The chassis will be mostly the same as they were in the real life season, with slight performance adjustments based on the previous performance of a team the season before, and to fit the narrative of the period. However I'll be giving team owners the option to choose engine supply for the season (with some exceptions for narrative purposes).

The Drivers

Before the start of each season, you are free to offer contracts for two driver slots. Unlike in previous seasons, you won't have any objectives to meet, although some drivers are locked into certain teams and there may be certain driver requirements imposed on certain teams (again for storyline purposes).

If multiple teams are bidding for a certain driver, RNG shall decide their fate, as usual.

14 teams for 1994, 2 cars per team. These 14 teams have been determined by the needs of the canon and previous developments:

And with that, it is time to move onto the next phase.

You can bid for drivers freely, however note that a few teams have a driver locked in, as well as some engines requiring certain drivers to be hired in some capacity.

You can also choose engine suppliers for the year. Also bear in mind that some teams have engines locked in, and certain engine suppliers will have team preferences or will refuse to work with certain teams, as well as the aforementioned driver requests. If there are multiple bids for engines, I will leave it in the hands of RNG to decide who gets what.

So, here’s a list of engines that you can choose for 1994 (all suppliers can only supply 1 team unless otherwise stated):

Peugeot (team bidding for Peugeots must employ Philippe Alliot in some capacity)

Brazilian Grand Prix
Qualifying

Race

DOTR: Johnny Herbert - winning on debut for Williams is a good way to start the year
ROTR: Larrousse - they were absolutely nowhere

Qualifying saw Arrows lock out the front row - home hero Rubens Barrichello being on front in his first race for the team. The Brazilian got a smooth start although Schumacher seemed to falter and get stuck further back. Into Turn 4 however Johnny Herbert managed to overtake Barrichello and Rubens was unable to respond. Schumacher clawed his way back up front - getting past Christopherson then sweeping past Barrichello and engaged Herbert in a battle for the lead - seemingly getting the upper hand.

Unfortunately, Schumacher's race would be tarnished by his utterly careless exiting of the pits after his first stop - not paying enough attention, the German launched the McLaren of Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler into the wall on the other side at 140mph. Voeckler required hospital attention but it appears he will recover in time for the Pacific Grand Prix.

After the pitstop phase, Barrichello was left in fourth - Schumacher meanwhile was beginning to pull away from Herbert until he ran into trouble - while lapping the Oreca of Neil McEwan, Schumacher collided into him - putting the pair of them out of the race. Michael was utterly furious and began gesticulating furiously - the marshals had to restrain him from hitting the Brit.

This therefore gave Herbert a free run at victory which he took easily, leading a Williams 1-2. Barrichello was a quiet third and behind him Berger, Voeckler (the Ferrari driver that is) and Wendlinger rounded out the points positions. Oreca's chance of their first points in three years was ruined by an impatient German.

Pacific Grand Prix
Qualifying

Race

DOTR: Sauber - 3rd and 4th is an excellent result
ROTR: Johnny Herbert/Jack Christopherson - their recklessness and ultimate collision has ultimately cost the team ground to Arrows

This race was ultimately about one man - Michael Schumacher. The German took pole position, led every lap of the race, set the fastest lap and won. A dominant victory if ever one had been seen. Teammate Barrichello was a distant second with Heinz-Harald Frentzen in third scoring a sensational podium for Sauber. Karl Wendlinger in fourth made it an even better afternoon for Hinwil, especially given they had beaten the McLaren of Gerhard Berger in fifth. Martin Donnelly was sixth for Jordan, putting them on the board.

The biggest talk of the Pacific paddock was of the two Williams drivers - Herbert and Christopherson crashed into each other and ended up catching Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler up in a three-way. They simply did not yield towards one another and took each other out of the race. Embarrassing.

One narrative that is forming further down the grid is that of Footwork Team Oreca establishing themselves as the leading French team on the grid. Although they have so far recorded only one classified finish (a respectable 9th place for Fushida at Interlagos), the team's qualifying pace has been strong and hugely improved from their 1993 form. Team principal Hugues de Chaunac credits driver Neil McEwan with a lot of the improvement.

"Honestly, the amount of work he's put in over the last 18 months to get us to this point is truly remarkable. If it had been possible, I'm sure he'd have been at Magny-Cours eight days a week to test the car. He might not have points in the bag yet, but it's only a matter of time before he gets that result. Our pace has been even better than we could have imagined."

When pressed about rumours that he might be approaching faster drivers to take Fushida's seat, M. de Chaunac refused to be drawn, saying that "Kazuki is a valued member of our team, and he knows that."

Williams and Simtek have the option of withdrawing cars no. #26 and #32 for the Monaco Grand Prix as a result, if they so wish.

Nobody was really thinking about Mika's points at the end of the race - we were just relieved to get him back in the garage in one piece.

Williams will leave the #26 car unoccupied for the Monaco Grand Prix as a sign of respect towards our fallen driver. After that, our test driver Tom Kristensen will take the car at rounds that don't collide with his commitments in the Japanese Touring Car Championship. The driver of the #26 car for the rounds affected (French and Portugese Grand Prix) will be announced at a later date.
