Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Spain 2024

Post by Londoner »

1. Alpine. Back to being best of the rest.

There wasn't enough intrigue from anyone else to merit an IIDOTR nomination.

1. Norris - he's only human, being that close to Max is almost impossible
2. Kevin Magnussen - truly his skills are so beyond our comprehension that even F1 is too limiting for him

Alpine: Surprisingly non-terrible. But one has to wonder how much of it was down to Aston and especially RB being awful.

1. Gasly. Beating a Red Bull on Merit. However it was the Red Bull being driven by someone who should retire at the end of the season.

2. Norris. Just because his 2nd place means he is now 2nd in the driver championship which is the highest placing for a Mclaren driver in the championship since 2014.

Nothing.

A works Alpine team beating Aston Martin and RB should not be Improbable.

This might actually be a nothing. Lando is disappointed with 2nd places now. I might have said Alpine if one of them had managed to beat a top 4 team but Gas Leak just failed.

Alpine - Convincingly ahead of the rest of the midfield. A far cry from their atrocious start to the season. Even gave Perez a close run for a money.

HM to Norris for his first pole position in the dry (and where Verstappen actually tried) as well as getting to 2nd in the championship.

Martin Brundle: "Well, it's a fairly short debate, Murray".

1) Lewis Hamilton, 3rd on the grid, out-qualifying Russell and finally getting a podium in 2024!

2) Alpine, another double-points finish in 2024!

HM to Norris.

True, there may be an element of their rivals putting in a poor performance - but, on the other hand, you have to be there to be able to take advantage of it, and they did manage to do that (despite what seems to have been some rather uncertain times off the track).

I guess I'll give this to George Russell – it's not very often we see someone go from 4th to 1st at the start.

I'm not sure there are any particularly improbable finishes today.

1. Alpine - seems like they have made a step forward with double Q3 and double point effort
2. George Russell - just for the start.

Alpine: Their step forward shown in Monaco and Canada is real. At least one car deserved to beat Perez

Hamilton: A little bit of life in his season at last, incredible to think it’s his first podium of the year
