Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Baku 2024

Post by Londoner »

1. Franco Colapinto. In two races he's pretty much nailed the coffin shut on Sargeant's F1 career.

2. Ollie Bearman. Kept it clean and becomes the first driver to score in his first two F1 races with two different teams.

Honourable mention to Sergio Perez, for 48 laps he absolutely obliterated Verstappen.

1. Oscar Piastri - Excellent drive on tires that looked dead by Lap 39.
2. Bearman/Colapinto - Awesome drives both!

HM: Perez - So close to actually accomplishing something.

1. Piastri: Without a doubt, this was his race to lose and he owned that track today.

2. Colapinto/Bearman: 2nd races for both and they each scored well-deserved points.

To some extent, Colapinto may also be doing some damage to Albon's reputation given that he's been giving Albon quite a run for his money, despite his relative inexperience compared to Albon.

That said, given that Albon also managed to secure points, you could say Williams in general - a solid points finish, and being able to capitalise on the Perez/Sainz clash means both drivers scored a decent chunk of points, allowing them to jump ahead of Alpine in the WCC.

Bearman, too, put in a respectable performance, even if it might be a bit bittersweet for Haas - it seems that the points he scored might have come at Hulkenberg's expense, as it sounds like Hulkenberg might have run over debris from the Sainz/Perez crash and dropped back due to car damage.

Franco Colapinto: Simply magnificent, showing Williams made the right decision.

Honorable mentions to Bearman and Albon.

1. Colapinto. In 2 races already he has already showed why Williams made the right choice. Starting to think I would rather have him on the grid rather than a boring Bottas in an Audi. Points and beat Albon

2. Ollie Bearman. Again got a point in another horrifically tough race. Beat his teammate as well. Haas might be gutted that they have to have K-Mag back in the car.

Williams: the whole team smashed it today. I think Colapinto was lucky with the crash, as Hulkenberg also suffered, but both drove so beautifully all race.

I live 5 mins from Grove so gonna go honk in celebration!

Williams for a double points finish.

Drivers in their second Grand Prix, both scoring points, albeit aided by the Sainz/Perez crash. But at least these two drivers avoided similar drama themselves.

Williams - also nominated for EOTR, but both Albon and Colapinto were competitive all weekend for a well-deserved double points finish
Sergio Perez - no longer a surprise for him to be good in Baku, but this was still easily his best weekend all year

HM: Oliver Bearman - first time a driver scores points in his first two races for two different teams?

1. Colapinto: Top notch driving all weekend. Get this guy a seat.

2. Norris: You might be asking me why, but he did what he had to do from an awful qualifying session to bring it home 4th and ahead of Verstappen. 15th to 4th (despite two cars ahead crashing contributing to this) is nothing to scoff at.

HM to Piastri and Leclerc. They gave us an entertaining race and they fought hard but clean. I enjoyed their banter about it in the cooldown room later. It was nothing like a rivalry, but two guys talking about a video game.

Williams for a great points haul overtaking Alpine in the constructors and you wonder why they didn't have Colapinto in there instead of Sargeant in there earlier.

HMs to Oscar and shame he didn't finish but Checo for being quicker than Max for the first time in god knows how long.
