Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
1. Alpine. Perhaps the most astonishing and unexpected double podium since Stewart at the 1999 European GP?
2. Yuki Tsunoda. His race deserved a better result than P7 in the end, man was on it all day.

Alpine: FINALLY After a disappointing season, they nabbed a double podium
Yuki Tsunoda: A fine drive by him, lets hope that he ll maintain this great momentum...

1. Alpine: That double podium is much needed considering the difficult season
2. Yuki Tsunoda: Best race for him and deserved a better result.

Stewart at least had a podium at France that year IIRC? I'm legitimately curious - I might go back and have a look to see I can find one nearly as shocking
Obviously, AlCHADpine get the nod here.
2. Yuki Tsunoda - This feels like a reminder that being an F1 driver is a very exclusive club, and Tsunoda was arguably the best single driver in the world today. Man deserved a podium for his efforts.

1. Alpine. A double poduim. No-one saw that coming for this season. What a race for them
2. Max Verstappen. I don't think anyone saw him going from 17th to 1st and winning by about 17 seconds. It was a great drive.

1. APLINE - no other answers accepted, this was truly applying strategy and pace from a car nowhere near it
2. Williams, Aston Martin & Ferrari mechanics - Amazing job rebuilding so much in such a short turn around

1) Alpine: An excellent result in a chaotic race and totally out of the blue.
2) Max Verstappen: Yes, these might be the conditions he thrives in, but he went from near the back to win this against much more favoured competition given the circumstances.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
I was expecting Max to win once it was wet even from a bad grid position - thinking 2016 and also Schumacher-esque like Spain 96 too. So I'm going for Alpine - I expected them to be eaten up by Russell/Leclerc/Norris etc once the rain eased but it never happened! HM to Max and Yuki.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
That's probably the best call going - and even then, Ligier might not have scored any points before Germany, but they did have a 7th & 8th place finish in Spain - the best Alpine has done in any GP this year before Brazil was 9th. Before then... maybe Renault's 1-3 in France 1979? They certainly had the pace but the reliability to get both cars home... not so much.dr-baker wrote: ↑03 Nov 2024, 18:36Ligier, Germany 1994?Salamander wrote: ↑03 Nov 2024, 18:10Stewart at least had a podium at France that year IIRC? Alpine: Definitely the highlight of the day!
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
Alpine: Both drivers finished on the podium so they are the obvious choice.
Max Verstappen: From P17 to P1, only he could do such a thing in such conditions.

1) The Alpines - That's the team's first ever double podium! (Also the first for Team Enstone since Korea 2013 when they were Lotus)
2) Max Verstappen - Now let's get on with winning title #4!

They finished on the podium in both the San Marino and French GP's, in fact, so Stewart had already had more success in the earlier half of the season than you might have originally thought.Salamander wrote: ↑03 Nov 2024, 18:10Stewart at least had a podium at France that year IIRC? Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Brazil 2024
OK, now the craven stewards have bottled it...
There is only one IIDOTR: Alpine.
Everything else, like Verstappen winning from 17th or Tsunoda lucking into 3rd for a while before finishing 7th - so what - would have been probable.
But a disfunctional team under new management, with drivers who have a history of mutual antipathy, being guided by a proven cheat (Flavio), and driving tractors powered by lawn-mower engines, to even get both car in the points would have been worthy of the award.
But a double podium makes it unequivocal.
Great race, great result.
