US Grand Prix Money Man in tax trouble

Post by theshoo »

Here's a story on the guy putting up the money to build the new track. Looks like he'll fit right in with the other "colorful" personalities in F1.

I'd been wondering why was it taking so long.

I'm really surprised the US organizers will allow the circuit to be designed by Tilke. I thought they'd insist in it being All American.

It was part of the deal that they arranged with FOM - Tilke is already established as somebody who can design an Category 1 Circuit (i.e. an F1 Grade venue), and there are not that many alternatives to Tilke anyway (his company is one of only a handful, and his rivals have had their own share of problems in the past, with projects over running both deadlines and budgets).

Still, it is somewhat predictable that the organiser would have a slightly shady financial background - it seems that the richer the individual, the more flexible their ethics become.

The Austin, Texas area is, from all accounts, a very fiscally conservative part of the United States, so with all the responsibility placed on fewer people... the likelihood of this devastating possible venues increases. So without a local government to support this race, like what Indianapolis had...

Cynon, you've got to realize Austin is far and away the most liberal part of Texas. Compared to the rest of the country, it's fairly middle-of-the-road, but for Texas, it's incredibly liberal.
