Alternative 2007 Championship

Post by James1978 »

As a result of "Spy-gate", McLaren are expelled from the 2007 Championship and stripped of all Constructors points, and also as their car was deemed to have been illegal for copying ideas from another team, the drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton's results from the year were all expelled and anyone who finished behind them on the road moves up at their expense so that wins and points finishes are re-distributed (similar to 1984 with Tyrrell). Also as they were found guilty before the Belgian GP, they do not take part in any of the last 4 races, but this is very little bearing on the final results, which are as follows:

1. Raikkonen 130 (9 wins, 4 2nds)
2. Massa 113 (6 wins, 4 2nds, 2 3rds)
3. Heidfeld 86 (1 win, 4 2nds, 3 3rds)
4. Kubica 61 (2 2nds, 4 3rds)
5. Kovalainen 54 (1 win, 2 3rds)
6. Fisichella 41 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
7. Rosberg 37 (1 3rd, 3 4ths)
8. Webber 23 (1 2nd, 2 5ths)
9. Coulthard 22 (2 3rds, 1 4th)
10. Wurz 21 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
11. Trulli 19 (1 4th, 2 5ths)
12. Ralf Schumacher 13 (1 4th, 2 6ths)
13. Button 12 (1 4th, 2 6ths) - Ralf only beat him by having one more 8th place!
14. Vettel 9 (1 3rd for Toro Rosso, 1 6th for BMW)
15. Sato 7 (1 5th, 1 6th)
16. Liuzzi 5 (1 5th)
17. Barrichello 5 (1 7th)
18. Sutil 2 (1 7th) - beats Speed on countback by having 2 12th place finishes to Speed's 1, they also both had one 11th place finish
19. Speed 2 ( 1 7th)
20. Nakajima (1 8th)

No points for either the #21 Spyker (shared by Albers, Winkelhock and Yamamoto), and surprisingly no points for Anthony Davidson either - annoyingly he had 3 9th place finishes and a 10th after Mclarens DQ'd, so would have had 7 points under 2010 regs!

The championship fight was actually quite close - even Heidfeld was mixing it with the two Ferrari drivers until mid-season, and he only mathematically fell out of contention in Japan, Massa fell out of conention in China, he needed to beat Kimi there and failed. Only two races won by non-Ferraris though - Heidfeld in Canada and Kovalainen in Japan.

The only other point to argue is you could maybe take two points off Kimi and give two extra to Massa for Brazil, since as the championship would have been sewn up before it, Massa would have been "free" to win his home race without having to play the team game! (The standings here are for Kimi winning Brazil and Massa 2nd).

Anyone got any other suggestions for any other years with team(s)/driver(s) disqualified for a specific reason? (Not just becuase they dominated) :)

What if Renault were disqualified in 2007 for their involvement in Spy-Gate and in 2009 for Crash-Gate?
