2010 F1 Cars photos (2009 cars added now too)

Post by Row Man Gross-Gene »

I ran across something that I had worked on a long time ago and had tossed aside. It's nothing new, but I had wanted to put a properly scaled image of each car in an animation so that I could compare. In then end I only got 8 of the cars in because it was a lot of work and it's hard when all the images are a little different (different lenses, angles etc.). Anyway I've attached the image below. Far from perfect, but there it is.

The McLaren easily looks the fastest. The Lotus looks like a lawnmower.

The Merc is last year's Brawn, isn't it? Looks awful in those colours. 'm struck by how short is the McLaren's nose, compared to the Ferrari.

Quite a few teams have taken elements from their 2009 cars onto the 2010 car - for example, the Ferrari F10 and F60, and arguably so did the RB5 and RB6.

What is more striking is, if possible, you can see shots from above - in those, you can see that the Mercedes looks very "front heavy" as it were, with the rear of the car very tightly packaged. When you see that, you can see why Brawn has suggested that the aero and weight balance is too far forwards.

Yes, I think its definitely the 2010 livery on the 2009 car.

I was interested to see how Virgin, with innovative design ideas, are in the same areas, roughly, as the other teams.

I have no proof of this, but I reckon current F1 regulations promote performance from details, details, details. That compromises poorer teams: details are investments with diminishing marginal returns. So, you need to shake the regs every now and then.

Again, all of what I just wrote may be nothing but serious bollocks.

Thanks Eagleash, I'll take all the points I can get. I can readily admit to being an extreme geek for doing something like this. But when one is a geek, this kind of stuff is half the fun!

Interesting to see how the McLaren is the longest of all the cars, and others like the Lotus and Force India are quite short in comparison.

Those 2010 F1 cars have its own unique design, especially the McLaren MP4-25. He gets much better every race season.
