Your Reject of the Race - Abu Dhabi!
For the last time this year, it's time to nomiante your Reject of the Race.
So far, my leading contender is Lotus Racing, for putting Fairuz Fauzy in the car. It might only be Friday practice, but Fauzy makes Yoong look good and wastes ninety minutes of precious setup time for whoever he replaces, this time Kovalainen.

What are they going to set up. I understand that Mike Gascoyne has an old cardboard box with some washers and a spark plug marked upgrades.
A couple of teams are have been getting on my wick lately Toro Roso and Force India I'm looking at you.

I'm happy at Force India, thank you for going crap so Williams can inherit 6th in the Constructors Championship.

Felipe Massa comes quite high up the list here for running out of fuel during the session (although it is unclear whether this was due to a mechanical fault, like a malfunctioning fuel pump, or short fuelling by Ferrari).
However, the Japanese television broadcasters Fuji TV are fairly high up too - they were filming a piece for broadcast, and according to Davidson, they managed to run out of fuel. This, I remind you, is in a nation (the United Arab Emirates) which has the 7th largest proven oil reserves in the world...

The BBC, for not keeping the FP2 commentary line-up for the whole weekend (crofty, ant, karun, and a cameo from martin brundle!)

I haven't watched the practice sessions but I looked at the times. Fairuz Fauzy gets my vote, being 2.5 slower than Di Grassi in what is probably a better car is embarrassing.

I'll agree with that, as between the four of them, they were coming up with some very good comments and insights; I would be happy with Brundle and Karun on the TV feed, with Croft and Davidson on the radio feed as a compromise.
Additionally, a quick update on Massa's earlier problem - according to Ferrari, Massa stopped out on track with a broken fuel injection system, although they do not think that this will have any longer lasting ramifications.

Lotus Racing seconded for deciding to place the two slowest GP2 drivers of the lot in their car for the rookie tests.

If you ask me, just a total money grab by Lotus from Abradzihiev and Gonzalez's respective Bulgarian and Venezuelan sponsors...

Actually, Pastor Maldonado will probably join the champioship next season, so Lotus are clearly trying to appeal to Venezuelan audiences and get some interest going. And Bulgaria is attempting to get a Grand Prix up and running for 2012, so having Arabadzhiev is designed to do the same thing.

That's a terrible idea! At least Legard makes the choice of which commentary to listen to easy

Given the quandry they are in (Red Bull ownership, ferarri engines) ROTR should go to them no matter what....
Re: Your Reject of the Race - Abu Dhabi!
Webber is looking good at the moment for this unfortunately... I just get the feeling that his race will end in the wall or into another car...

Brundle was brilliant, he just seemed a lot less tense than he is in the BBC1 box and was happy to give a more colloquial contribution. Got the feeling he viewed the other three as a bunch of kids though

Anyway, back on topic I'm heartbroken to mention Robert Kubica. As someone pointed out in FP2 he seems to be very strong in the practice sessions and then goes nowhere in qualifying - well, for the last few races at least. Maybe his mind is moving towards 2011. Or rallying. Either way being p11 and beaten by your inconsistent rookie teammate doesn't look good for bob

Considering it's the first time he's missed Q3 this season in what is the 5th best car, it can be forgiven.

I have to nominate Kubica after quali today. Petrov made it into Q3 today, why didn't Kubica. Honorable Mention goes to Webber for screwing up his title chances already.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Abu Dhabi!
I didn't see Qualifying first hand so I'll have to nominate Robert Kubica for being beaten by the next Takuma Sato for only the second time this season.
Dishonourable mentions to Mark Webber for being behind his teammate, McLaren and Alonso while also being in the firing line for Massa and Lewis Hamilton for being in trouble with officialdom TWICE in 2 days.

Well, you could argue that Brundle could treat them like kids in one way - he was racing in Formula 1 when they were just kids (and in the case of Karun, before he was even born). Moreover, he had to deal with the turbo era cars, which were not exactly easy to drive, so the modern cars, with significant improvements in mechanical and aerodynamic capabilities, are quite a bit easier.
But yes, he did seem very relaxed when chatting with them; perhaps a fraternal feeling towards fellow former and current racing drivers? And another reason why I wouldn't mind seeing Legard being moved elsewhere - perhaps Legard should be encouraged to do more work as a BBC reporter and journalist. Additionally, sometimes Legard adds an additional voiceover on race highlights from the ITV era of coverage when classic races are shown on the BBC - those voiceovers are actually fairly good, and shows that Legard can be good when he has time to think about what he is saying, but not when he has to respond instantly.
As for Kubica, this is the first time in 22 races that he has failed to make the Q3 cut, which is, as many said, quite impressive when there were times when Force India and Williams have put up fierce competition. In his case, he put his performance down to poor rear grip, resulting in severe oversteer when he applied the throttle.
Personally, I would be inclined to nominate Hulkenberg for qualifying eight places behind Rubens - his Q2 time was a second off Barrichello, with no obvious signs of damage or traffic, and four tenths off what he managed in Q1.
Williams bamed Hulkenberg's problem on a issue with the set up which caused his car to understeer severely on the softer compound - if so, and given that they can't do much set up work between now and the race start, he might have a difficult race on his hands.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Abu Dhabi!
I also think Brundle may have been more relaxed because he had been locked out of the room he was supposed to have been in and therefore he may have been considered to have been "bunking off" for a while. He had nothing else to do, so why not just pop in for a friendly chat with some collegues while he waited to be let in?

Or maybe Brundle was good as he wasnt being poked by his superiors to praise Hamilton and Button the whole time? (Though I didnt hear his commentary, Im just guessing completely. He just seemed like that at times in some races)
As for rejectdom, EITHER
Whoever prangs into one of the championship contenders, taking them out
OR
Whichever contender puts it into a wall or another driver
Bonus points if Red Bull incompetence is involved

My Reject is Fernando Alonso for a disgusting display of bad sportsmanship at the end of the race. If he cannot get past Petrov, well, that's on him. Petrov is entitled to race for position, and Alonso's display of frustration was a terrible performance. And really, it was proof of why he never deserved it in the first place.
