Wizzie's Dirt Track Racing 2 Career
I just found this program on my computer and I thought "Hell why not?" so here's goes (And before you ask no this will be nowhere near as successful as my F1 career)
January 1st 2011:
A young Australian burst onto the scene in the American Dirt Track Scene. His name was Dean O'Lauchlan and he arrived with $800 and a Campala Pro Stock Car. He then bought some soft tyres for $400. O'Lauchlan decided to enter the Lagoon Local Series full time as well as 2 events in the Taylor Wings Figure 8's series. The first even would be the first round of the Lagoon Local series at Spindale, Delaware.

Re: Wizzie's Dirt Track Racing 2 Career
January 29th, 2011:
LLS Round 1: Spindale, DE
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan has already started turning heads in the fraternity by plonking his car 4th in qualifying with a 15.56 second lap which puts him on the inside last row for Heat 1 alongside G. Navarro in the reverse grid format. O'Lauchlan, whose driving style has already been compared to that of fellow Aussie and multiple F1 World Champion Daniel Melrose could have gone even faster if his practice times were anything to go by.
Heat 1 (10 laps):
Dean O'Lauchlan won his first ever heat after making a demon first lap from the rolling start to end up in the lead after two laps. However he was pressured all the way by R. Ormsby all the way and he got close as they started lapping the backmarkers. O'Lauchlan did a much better job in the traffic and as a result had a 0.18 second lead over Ormsby at the end. L. Crampton and G. Lade where the other drivers who made it to the Main Race A.
Main A (16 laps):
Dean O'Lauchlan was set for a strong finish to his first ever event. That was until an accident mid-race relegated him from 4th to 16th from which he never recovered from as he hauled his battered car to the finish. S. Haines won the race from Navarro and I. Fisher. O'Lauchlan can take comfort in the fact that in his first event he has been proven to be extremally competitive.

Re: Wizzie's Dirt Track Racing 2 Career
April 9th, 2011:
LLS: Round 2: 41st Street, Bridgeport, NJ
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan continued his incredible debut performance from Deleware at Bridgeport, New Jersey as he went fastest in qualifying by 2 hundreths of a second ahead of S. Haines and S. Ryan. O'Lauchlan with his new sponsor Gold Eagle Co ripped up the tri-oval as O'Lauchlan will now start 16th and last in Heat 1 due to the reverse grid rules.
Heat 1:
Not much to report except O'Lauchlan took his second heat win in two races as he keeps collecting the prize money to help pay for the extensive repairs after his accident in Deleware.
Main A:
For the second even in a row O'Lauchlan finished last in the Main A event but this time he was helped to his demise as he was spun around on lap 5 and given a one lap penalty for "apparently shortcutting the track". At the time O'Lauchlan thought the penalty was unjustified (and it was on further review) But he went for it and made up half a lap on the 15th placed runner but simply ran out of time before he could seriously challenge.

Re: Wizzie's Dirt Track Racing 2 Career
16th April, 2011
TWF8s: Round 2: Weaver Park, Hartford, OH
Qualifying:
This was Dean O'Lauchlan's first event on a figure of eight circuit and it showed as he was only a disappointing 12th overall which would put him in 13th on the grid in Heat 3 due to the reverse grid rules. Up front and it was C. Moon leading the way from R. Nance and T. Jarrett. (Interesting note for TMLW: 15th in qualifying was someone by the name of J. O'Brien. Go figure
)
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan's progress wasn't as explosive as other races but he still made it up to a respectable 3rd by the end of the 10 lap sprint with N. Johnson, T. Jarrett and P. Lee the other drivers making it straight through to the A Main race. J. O'Brien finished 6th which meant he would have to finish in the top 4 in the B Main to make it to the A Main.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan finally took his first main race win after a dramatic race with 3 pace car periods as drivers ahead of him collided with backmarkers at the crossover in the middle of the track. After starting 11th O'Lauchlan kept his nose relatively clean and made some classy passing manouveres to take victory in the 20 lap race ahead of S. Molloy and T. Jarrett.

May 7th, 2011
LLS: Round 3: Bloomington Speedway, Bloomington, IN
Qualifying:
As Dean O'Lauchlan returned to the paddock he couldn't believe his eyes. He had set the fastest time of the session. Except it was only the equal fastest time as G. Navarro mere minutes earlier set the exact same time which made the difference between startin last in Heat 1 (Navarro) and Heat 2 (O'Lauchlan).
Heat 2:
Dean O'Lauchlan continued his brilliant form this season with yet another win in his heat race. This time it was by over half a second from K. Adams and N. Cartwright. M. Warner was 4th meaning he also makes it straight to the A Main race.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan proved that he is one to watch after winning the Main race by nearly 3 seconds on a sub 13 second lap. After the leader speared off on lap 13 while lapping traffic O'Lauchlan was virtually unchallenged to the flag and took some much needed points in the championship.

June 11th, 2011
LLS: Round 4: Eagle Speedway, Eagle, NE
Qualifying:
Considering the different expectations now compared to the beginning of the season, Dean O'Lauchlan performed at abour par for the course by being 3rd in qualifying after buying some minor upgrades for the car. The usual suspects of S. Haines and G. Navarro were leading the field as O'Lauchlan will be starting 16th and last in Heat 3
Heat 3:
Yet again Dean O'Lauchlan cruised to an easy heat win with C. Lear (pun not intended. That's the name the game gave for the poor sod), L. Lundberg and R. Lynde being the other 3 out of the 16 competitors in the heat to make it straight to the A Main race.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan could not have been closer to another Main race victory. After battling with the leaders for the 18 laps he lost out on victory to S. Ryan by 0.03 seconds. G. Navarro was 3rd with K. Adams 4th.

July 2nd, 2011
TWF8s: Round 3: South Central, Irwindale, CA
Qualifying:
This was Dean O'Lauchlan's second ever figure of 8 race and again he showed poor form as he was a disappointing 15th in qualifying. T. Jarrett, R. Nance and C. Moon were all leading the way out front. (And again for the TMLP: J. O'Brien is 18th)
Heat 3:
For most of the heat Dean O'Lauchlan was fighting with the likes of J. O'Brien for 7th and 8th places. Then a late pace car and a brilliant restart saw O'Lauchlan salvage 3rd at the death beating R. Caruso to the line by less than a hundreth of a second. C. Ormsby and H. Mandrell were the other A Main qualifiers while J. O'Brien was 6th.
Main A:
Dean O'Lauchlan was effectively relegated to anonymous midfielder status as he finished 8th after passing P. Hewitt on the restart after the only pace car period all race. N. Johnson up front took the win from J. Jasper and T. Drake.

August 6th, 2011
LLS: Round 5: Harrison County Speedway, Brewerton, NY
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan returned to form in the penultimate race of his season as he was 4th in qualifying between G. Navarro, S. Haines and S. Ryan. O'Lauchlan was using soft tyres he has used for all bar one or two events this season and as a result will be using his set of medium tyres for the rest of the weekend.
Heat 1:
Dean O'Lauchlan finished 2nd in his heat after a race long battle with G. Navarro. After the pair made light work of the field at the start from the back row the pair swapped the lead several times before Navarro pulled away with 2 laps to go. K. Adams was 3rd while P. Drake also made it into the A Main.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan was for the second event in a row relegated to anonymous midfielder as he finished 6th as G. Navarro, S. Haines and S. Ryan locked out the podium.

October 15th, 2011
LLS: Round 6: Parkside Motor Raceway, Hazleton, PA
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan must be thanking his lucky stars right now because 3 drivers set exactly the same time. However since O'Lauchlan was the first out on track of the trio he was 3rd overall which meant that he will be starting 16th in heat 3. S. Haines and G. Navarro were untouchable in 1st and 2nd.
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan has probably been one of the few drivers who has made it straight to the A Main race from the heats in every event he's participated in this year. He kept that streak going with a win in the heat race from R. Lynde, R. Ormsby and P. Drake.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan closed out his impressive debut season with another podium. For most of the race O'Lauchlan was running 2nd but with no answer to S. Haines out front who cruised to an easy win until O'Lauchlan lost 2nd right at the line to S.Ryan by 7 hundreths of a second.

January 28th, 2012
TWF8s: Round 1: South Central, Irwindale, CA
Dean O'Lacuhlan's full time effort at the Weld Wheels Young Pros series didn't start until the following week so he took the oppertunity to pick up some extra cash at Irwindale. In addition to some part time drives in the Taylor Wings Figure 8s and a full time tilt at the Weld Wings Young Pros is a few drives in the Lagoon Local Series where he finished in the top 5 last season.
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan continued his good from from last season by qualifying 9th which meant he would start 14th in Heat 3. The usual suspects in T. Jarrett, C. Moon and R. Nance were leading the way while everyone's second favourite driver J. O'Brien was 17th.
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan scored an emphatic victory in the heat race after S. Molloy and R. Nance who were both ahead of him had separate accidents with backmarkers at the same spot (the crossover) at exactly the same time. The resulting pace car ment C. Ormsby closed up but he couldn't challenge O'Lauchlan. P. Lee was 3rd with D. Borrett the other driver making it straight to the A Main.
A Main:
From 7th on the grid Dean O'Lauchlan spent most of the race fighting in the lower half of the top 10. Two caution periods and two good restarts however won him 2nd place. The second restart was effectively a "Green-White-Checkers" and O'Lauchlan took full advantage of it to go from 4th to 2nd in one lap behind R. Navarro. N. Johnson completed the podium.

Re: Wizzie's Dirt Track Racing 2 Career
February 4th, 2012
WWYP: Round 1: Rodeo Raceway, Amarillo, TX
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan put his car 9th in qualifying which means that he'll be starting 14th in heat 3 again but he felt his car was good enough for a top 5 result. Up fromn it was J. Reval leading from T. Brown and I. Lee.
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan was the second fastest car on track but even his natural pace wasn't going to help him after he got a one lap penalty mid race as he was recovering from a spin. Therefore he has alot of work to do as he finished 15th out of 16 runners and will have to go through all the Main races to make it to the A Main. Up front T. Lovell won from G. Raynes, L. Ewens and D. Wilmott.
D Main:
There wasn't much to note as O'Lauchlan cleaned up the field as he lapped all 11 other competitors on his way to an emphatic win on his way to the C Main race.
C Main:
Different race, same story as O'Lauchlan dominated lapping everyone but the top 4.
B Main:
All O'Lauchlan had to do was finish in the top 4 to make it to the A Main. He did just that by finishing 2nd after getting caught up in the concentina effect on the first lap and carried the damage throughout the race.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan may have only finished 9th in the A Main race but he could take alot out of this event as he clawed his way back to be in this position and keep his streak of A Main appearances going. Up front and it was J. Reval winning from J. Defoe and T. Brown.

Brown.

WWYP: Round 2: Spindale Raceway, Delmar, DE
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan returned to the site of his debut event last season and plonked the car 5th in qualifying which meant he would start 15th in Heat 2. Up front J. Reval and I. Lee were the only drivers to dip into the sub-15s which gave them the top 2 in qualifying.
Heat 2:
Dean O'Lauchlan scored a fairly conservative 3rd place in the heat race behind L. Stone and I. Lee and will be on his way to yet another A Main race. P. Logan finished 4th and will be the other man going through to the A Main.
A Main:
Yet again Dean O'Lauchlan was battling in the lower midfield as he finished 11th of 16 runners but yet again he showed good consistant pace which got him a few positions. Up front I. Lee won from W. Doherty and T. Brown.

LLS: Round 2, 41st Street Speedway, Bridgeport, NJ
Qualifying:
In his first race back in the Lagoon Local Series Dean O'Lauchlan put his car 3rd in qualifying which was a commendable effort considering his car is carrying damage from the last race he participated in. S. Haines and G. Navarro were familiar names in 1st and 2nd.
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan took another heat win to advance through to the A Main along with R. Ormsby, R. Lynde and M. Warner.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan finished 4th in the main race after an entertaining battle with G. Navarro and S. Ryan for 3rd for the majority of the event with Navarro eventually winning out behind S. Haines and I. Fisher.

WWYP: Round 3: Eagle Raceway, Eagle, NE
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan put in an absolute scorcher of a lap to go 4th in qualifying which puts him 15th for Heat 1. T. Brown, W. Doherty and J. Reval were on another planet though as they locked out the top 3 spots in qualifying.
Heat 1:
Dean O'Lauchlan finished 2nd in the heat race behind J. McFarlane with T. Brown and J. Elsegood making it through to the A Main aswell. O'Lauchlan especially did a good job since he had an pretty big crash on lap 2 while making his way up the field.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan finished 5th in the A Main race which was a commendable performance considering he was carrying some engine damage from the last race. O'Lauchlan spent the entire race battling with T. Munro and J. Defoe for 5th, 6th and 7th as he had no answer to T. Brown, J. Reval, J. McFarlane and W. Doherty who made up the top 4.

TWF8s: Round 2: Weaver Park, Hartford, OH
Qualifying:
Through sheer dumb luck Dean O'Lauchlan is leading the Taylor Wings Figure 8 series after 1 round. However his qualifying form on Figure of 8 tracks continues to beg questions as he was down in a abmsyal 16th overall which means he will be starting 11th in Heat 1. Up front and it was T. Jarrett leading the way from R. Nance and C. Moon as they were on another planet of their own (For TMLW: J. O'Brien was 19th)
Heat 1:
For whatever reason the problems Dean O'Lauchlan had during qualifying disappeared as he won the heat from T. Jarrett, T. Drake and L. Ryan. O'Lauchlan took the lead early and didn't look like losing it for the rest of the race. Even a massive accident on the last lap didn't deter him as he took the checkered flag under the caution period that followed. However he himself hit someone earlier and suffered some major damage as a result. J. O'Brien was 7th
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan finished 4th in the A Main race which as yet againa credible effort since he was driving with a badly damaged engine for most of the race. Infact he was leading for a few laps thanks to caution periods and well timed restarts but in the end he couldn't hold off the compeition. S. Molly won from T. Drake and T. Jarrett.

WWYP: Round 4: Terre Haute Action Track, Terre Haute, IN
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan was bitterly disappointed with his qualifying performance as he was only 10th which means he will start 13th in Heat 1. Meanwhile J. Reval, T. Brown, W. Doherty and I. Lee were all on a different planet as they stormed to the top of the timesheets.
Heat 1:
Dean O'Lauchlan did a pretty good job to finished 3rd in the heat behind J. Reval and I. Lee in what was otherwise a relatively quiet race.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan mostly kept out of trouble and hauled his car to 5th in the A Main race behind T. Brown, W. Doherty, J. McFarlane and J. Reval. On an unfamiliar track O'Lauchlan kept up a consistant pace which got him one of his best oval results of the season so far.

Time to bring this back from the dead
May 12th, 2012
LLS: Round 3: Bloomington Speedway, Bloomington, IN
Qualifying:
Unlike last year there was no doubt over who set the fastest time in qualifying as Dean O'Lauchlan set a scorching lap to be over a tenth faster than the rest of the field which means he'll start 16th in Heat 1. S. Haines, G. Navarro and S. Ryan were his closest rivals but only Ryan would start in the same heat as him.
Heat 1:
Dean O'Lauchlan was unlucky not to win his heat race as he got involved in two separate accidents involving lapped traffic. However he still did enough to go through to the A Main by finishing 3rd.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan may have only led the final 2 laps of the 18 lap race but it was enough to secure his first main event win in 2012 ahead of S. Ryan, S. Haines and I. Fisher.

WWYP: Round 5: Parkside Motor Raceway, Hazleton, PA
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan has always disliked the larger ovals. He felt he was more of a short track specialist and it showed as he qualified a medicore 8th which meant a 14th place start in heat 2. The top 5 in qualy all did sub-20 second laps with T. Brown leading the way from J. Reval, I. Lee, W. Dohety and J. Defoe.
Heat 2:
Dean O'Lauchlan may have only finished a distant 2nd behind J. Reval but for the Australian it was mission accomplished as he made to the A main alongside Reval, J. Defoe and P. Becker
A Main:
In the early running Dean O'Lauchlan was as high as 6th place before a meeting with the wall mid race put him down to 14th. From there he put in a commedable effort to claw his way back to 11th. Up front I. Lee took the win from J. Reval, T. Brown and W. Doherty

WWYP: Round 6: Harrison County Speedway, Brewerton, NY
Qualifying:
Harrison County Speedway is one of the shorter tracks on the calender and it helped Dean O'Lauchlan into 5th place in qualifying which means starting from the 8th row in Heat 2. J. Reval and T. Brown led the chasing pack as the only 2 drives to break into the 14s.
Heat 2:
Dean O'Lauchlan put in one of his more mundane performances to finish 4th in the heat behind T. Brown, D. Ilmott and H. Haines to qualify for the A Main.
A Main:
For whatever reason Dean O'Lauchlan was rendered uncompetitive for the duration of the race as he finished a lowly 12th out of 16 competitors while up front T. Brown stole the show from W. Doherty and I. Lee

LLS: Round 4: Eagle Raceway, Eagle, NE
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan put in a good performance on a familiar track to go 3rd behind S. Ryan and S. Haines who had set exactly the same laptime as each other but Ryan did his lap a few minutes earlier which made the difference.
Heat 3:
Dean O'Lauchlan took the lead at then end of lap one and from therefore had a relatively clean run for the win ahead of K. Adams, N. Cartwright and L. Lundberg.
A Main:
Considering he was well outside the top 10 at the end of the first lap after a horrible start Dean O'Lauchlan put in a brilliant performance in a competitive field to finish in 5th behind G. Navarro, S. Ryan, S. Haines and R. Ormsby

Qualifying:
12th in qualifying must have been a disappointment for Dean O'Lauchlan but it was understandable considering it was his 4th race in 4 weeks.
Heat 3:
Despite a Green-White-Checker finish and carrying damage from an earlier accident Dean O'Lauchlan held on to win ahead of N. Johnson, S. Molloy and P. Lee.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan is fast turning into a master of restarts as he clawed his way back to 7th after another early accident. Up front it was R. Warren winning from C. Moon and T. Jarrett.

WWYP: Round 7: Peakview Raceway, Syracuse, NY
Qualifying:
Considering that Peakview was one of the longest ovals on the calender Dean O'Lauchlan did a credible job to qualify 5th behind J. Reval, T. Brown, I. Lee and J. Defoe. What was more amazing was the fact that O'Lauchlan's fastest lap in practice would have put him 3rd.
Heat 2:
3rd in heat 2 was a credible effort for Dean O'Lauchlan from 15th on the grid which meant he kept his perfect streak of A Main appearances going.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan was putting in a fairly competitive performance until a late-race accident relegated him from 7th to an eventual 15th. Up front it was I. Lee taking the win from J. Reval, J. McFarlane and T. Brown

Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan had the pace to be among the frontrunners but he blew it in qualifying and ended up with only the 10th best time. Up front and T. Brown had the fastest time with I. Lee and J. Reval giving chase.
Heat 1:
Dean O'Lauchlan was battling for the final spot in the A Main for the majroity of the race before he got spun around on the last lap and finished a lowly 11th which meant he had alot to do before he could join the likes of T. Brown, W. Doherty, G. Raynes and D. Lynde to make it to the A Main

WWYP: Round 9: Bloomington Speedway, Bloomington, IN
Qualifying:
Dean O'Lauchlan has always liked Bloomington and here he continued his run of form at the circuit to qualify 2nd behind J. Reval. T. Brown and I. Lee were behind O'Lauchlan in 3rd and 4th.
Heat 2:
Once O'Lauchlan took the lead on the 4th lap of the 10 lap sprint it was a fairly straightforward win for the Australian ahead of L. Stone, S. Hayward and D. Yorke.
A Main:
Dean O'Lauchlan felt hard done-by as a tap from a fellow competitor and the subsequent one lap penalty for somethign that wasn't his fault relegated him from podium contention to a lapped 14th place finish. I. Lee took the win from T. Brown who inherited 2nd after a photo finish with G. Raynes.
