Yet another computerised series - GP4 2001 season
With the popularity of computerised series' such as F1RWRS going up, I have decided to start up my own, using Grand Prix 4. The race distance will be 30% (as I can't be bothered watching a full race) with a 15 minute qualifying session. Points will be the same as in the actual 2001 season and the car performance will be set to random, so one team does not gain an advantage over the course of the season.
Due to game limitations there are only 22 spots available, so get in quick!
The teams are as follows:
Ferrari:
1: Daniel Melrose (Wizzie)
2: James Chapman (James1978)
McLaren:
3: Douglas Mann (dr-baker)
4: Phoenix McAllister (Phoenix)
Williams:
5: Kay Lon (Klon)
6: Jeroen Krautmeir
Benetton:
7: Rhys Davies (the Masked Lapwing)
8: Hagane Shizuka (Shizuka)
BAR:
9: Thomas De Bock (tommykl)

11: Daniel Martins (DanielPT)

14: Jack Christopherson (redbulljack14)
15: Ashley Watkinson (watka)
Sauber:
16: Ed Kevin (shinji)
17: Giovanni Merisi (SDHammer)

18: Richie White (East Londoner)
19:
Minardi:
20: Dave Simpson (MinardiFan95)
21: Pippa Mann (dr-baker)
Prost:
22: Luca Pacchiarini

Since it works so good in BatRacer, I'd like the #5 Williams. K. Lon's the name.

Enter Richie White for the number #18 Jaguar please.

If both Douglas and Pippa Mann can get seats, Douglas would like the no. 3 McLaren while Pippa Mann would like the remaining Minardi seat please. Thank you!

Catalunya 1st Test Results
1. Phoenix McAllister - 1'18.402
2. Dave Simpson - 1'18.436
3. Douglas Mann - 1'18.458
4. Jeroen Krautmeir - 1'18.474
5. Daniel Martins - 1'18.481
6. Rhys Davies - 1'18.518
7. James Chapman - 1'18.541
8. Richie White - 1'18.576
9. Pippa Mann - 1'18.586
10. Hagane Shizuka - 1'18.603
11. Kay Lon - 1'25.722
Looks like it is going to be a very close season, with the top 10 seperated by only .201 of a second. Not much else to report on other than the short period of qualifying session time catching out Kay Lon, as he only managed to get an installation lap in before the end of the session. Also, the random AI mode really does mean random AI. Pedro de la Rosa topped the in-game timesheets with Bernoldi in third.

15. Tristan Jung - 1'21.020
16. Jack Christopherson - 1'21.054
17. Douglas Mann - 1'21.338
The final test session before the season was always going to be a heated battle, and it was Thomas De Bock who set the pace throughout the session.

Jeroen Krautmeir in the BMW Williams was showing good pace for second.

Rhys Davies drove well to take 3rd in the Benetton-Renault

McLaren had a mixed session, with McAllister finishing 4th and Douglas Mann finishing last.

The only mechanical problem in the session was a transmission failure on Dave Simpson's Minardi.

I rememeber having tracks as Donington, Detroit, Long Beach, Kyalami, Oulton Park (!).... for GP4.. that would be epic

An Italian driver pairing for a French team with Italian engine. And we have a German pairing for a British team with German engine. Nationalities are always confusing.

Re: Yet another computerised series - GP4 2001 season
Round 1 - Australia
Qualifying:
Arrows driver Jack Christopherson set the pace in qualifying, taking pole position. Jeroen Krautmeir was second.

Race:
The race started in wet conditions, but the track appeared to be drying.
Lap 1:
Krautmeir took the lead from Christopherson with a pass around the outside at the first turn. Into turn 3, Ashley Watkinson tapped Kay Lon, but this didn't result in any damage. Dave Simpson aggressively blocked Barii Mori, with Mori hitting the Minardi.
Lap 2:
Watkinson is all over the gearbox of Lon's Williams, however he doesn't pass.
Lap 3:
A train of cars starts to form behind Simpson's Minardi.
Lap 4:
Rhys Davies cuts across in front of Pippa Mann going in to turn 1 with the two cars making contact and both spinning. Davies' Benetton ended out in the gravel, however he could rejoin, albeit in last place.

Giovanni Merisi in the Sauber passes the Ferrari of James Chapman.
Lap 5:
Ron Dennis wasn't too pleased when the McLaren drivers spun each other out going into turn 1. Douglas Mann rejoins in 19th (and, most importantly ahead of his sister) and McAllister drops to last.

Lap 6 was too uneventful to mention.
Lap 7:
Richie White retires from the race with an engine failure.

Lap 8:
Daniel Martins spins after making contact with Melrose's Ferrari.

Lap 9:
Giovanni Roda passes Melrose.
Lap 10:
Luca Pacchiarini sends Melrose off the road in the final sector.

Lap 11:
Ashley Watkinson passes De Bock, who is falling back through the pack. De Bock ended the lap in 8th.
Lap 12:
Dave Simpson can go no further after an oil leak forces the Minardi to a halt. Thankfully the oil was off the racing line or we could have seen an even slipperier track into one of the main accident spots.

Lap 13 was lucky for all, with no incidents.
Lap 14:
Thomas De Bock hits Tristan Jung, sending the Jordan into a gravel trap. Jung only loses one spot, but it turns out to be a crucial points scoring spot.

Lap 15 was uneventful.
Lap 16:
Lon's Williams develops an electrical problem, but rather then limp to the finish, he pits with one lap to go.

Lap 17:
Jeroen Krautmeir takes the win with a superb drive. Chrstopherson finishes second and Ed Kevin finishes a quiet third

Results:

Spare a thought for poor Daniel Melrose in the Ferrari... did no pre-season testing and ended up nowhere... reminds me of the first few races I did for Ferrari back in 05 before my championship campaign really kicked off.
