Formula 1 RPG / PBM game
Don't delay enter today!
Once Monday week comes then the game starts fully.
Teams Entered so far : 13
Drivers Entered so far : 22
Questionnaires will be send out soon, I had a long day and I am exhausted but they shall go out tomorrow. 13 Teams with hopefully 26 drivers will be fighting over 24 grid spots. So some drivers will face DNQ after their name, a few more teams and we will be bring out the DNPQ.
Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum so please be kind with me.
A good few years back I created a semi computerised F1 game (it was on the ZX Spectrum...) and used it for a play by mail, F1 role playing game. The idea was that people would create a team and driver (or just a driver) and by answering a number of questions, about various aspects of team ownership and a personality test, the computer would generate a history and data for the team and / or driver and assign staff. They would then get offered an Engine, Tyre and Fuel deal and get offered sponsorship deals.
3 pre season tests allowed team owners to find ways to improve the car as well as test out driver talent (a driver could test for 6 teams!) after the pre season tests, the teams had to sign up drivers if they had not done so already. Pay drivers were also present just to make your team more reject worthy if you wished it.
Each race would have a practice, qualifying, warm up and race session. After each session the times would be posted and team owners and drivers made comments about the session and depending on what they said would effect set up for the next session. Before the race a basically pit strategy is given and the race is performed.
Team owners and drivers could privately or publicly rebuke or praise each other, they can also criticise other drivers, teams, engines, tyres and even sponsors if they wished. In the same token, Sponsors, Engine and Tyre companies can also criticise and praise teams and drivers.
Every 4 races, you will get a chance to spend money (if you have any) on trying to make a major improvement to your car, whether legally or illegally. Although you can set budgets on how to improve the car in increments during the season, you also have to watch the budget and develop next years car too.
Teams are generic, you can use any name you wish as long as it is not a real F1 team, although Engines, Fuel companies and Tyres are real, featuring most from the 1988 to 1992 seasons, with some artistic license on the way (for example Mercedes and Ilmor engines and Avon tyres...). There will be over 300 sponsors too, featuring most of the sponsors that were in F1 from 1988 to 1992, such names as Arpo, Bouygues, Cimarron, Data General, Elkron Security Systems, Fat Turbo Express, Viel&Cie Finance, XP Express Parcels and Zanini as well as some new ones.
Everything is done by forms and email so it is quite simple and if I can I would publish results and times here.
If you are interested in playing then reply here and hopefully I can get 12 to 14 teams to play (one team per person but you can enter as many drivers as you wish...) so we can have some nice qualifying sessions.

Re: Formula 1 RPG / PBM game
Fantastic, one so far.
If anyone is worried about having to commit to a season, as a race weekend will take about 2 weeks to do and there are 16 races in a season, then there you can leave your team manager to run the show, although this could be good or bad depending on a lot of factors. Drivers will have the computer generate data for them too.
The 16 race season will be similar to the 1989/1990 season but with Zandvoort coming in to replace the San Marino GP.
Brazil - Jacarepagua
Mexico - Hermanos Rodriguez
Monaco - Monte Carlo
USA - Phoenix
Canada - Gilles Villeneuve
Netherlands - Zandvoort
France - Paul Ricard
Britian - Silverstone
Germany - Hockenheimring
Hungary - Hungaroring
Belgium - Spa
Italy - Monza
Portugal - Estoril
Spain - Jerez
Japan - Suzuka
Australia - Adelaide

Re: Formula 1 RPG / PBM game
Seeing as I will have plenty of free time on my hands next week (Easter holidays), I would be interested. Will it be done entirely by email?

I could be in. Make my results post in my signature even more epically long!

So far we have two UK teams and one each from Cyprus, Japan, Belgium, Portugal and the Isle of Man so far. Only one team is based outside of the nationality of the team. I hope we get some teams from Italy, France and America.
We also so far, have two Isle of Man and two Japanese drivers, with other drivers from Cyprus, Wales, France, America, Belgium, Portugal and England. I hope we also get some German, Italian and South American drivers.

Re: Formula 1 RPG / PBM game
As the 1989 season draws near, it looks like being a superlative season.
Although entries are slow to come in, the FIA have confirmed that there are 9 team entries with 18 drivers applying for super licenses and they are hopeful that they will get at least another 5 entries and at least another 18 drivers applying for super licenses.
The season schedule has been published and looks exciting with the Dutch GP coming back and the American GP moving to Phoenix.
25th March - Brazil - Jacarepagua - 60 Laps - 5.031 km
22th April - Mexico - Hermanos Rodriguez - 67 Laps - 4.421 km
13th May - Netherlands - Zandvoort - 70 Laps - 4.252 km (1985 Layout)
27th May - Monaco - Monte Carlo - 78 Laps - 3.328 km
10th June - USA - Phoenix - 75 Laps - 3.800 km (1989 Layout)
24th June - Canada - Gilles Villeneuve - 69 Laps - 4.421 km

Teams will be spoilt for choice for tyre and engine companies, with a record number entering the sport. For tyres, Good Year, Pirelli are committed to doing another year but we have Michelin, Bridgestone, Avon and Continental coming back into the sport.
Engine companies have announced the engines they are hoping to bring into F1, two companies are bucking the trend of V engines with Life hoping to sell their W12 engine and Motori Moderni wanting to do the same with their Flat 12 engine. With teams being allowed to test 3 engines, it will be interesting to see which engine could be the meatiest. The full list is,

Ferrari V12
Ford V8
Hart V8

Also - I wrote Nissan in my team... can it be a rebadged Renault?
If not, just leave it as Renault.

The season will not start until the 18th of April or until we have at least 14 teams so you are not late. Now we have 10 teams! I shall send the questionnaires out in the next 24 hours so we can start assigning drivers, engines, sponsors and tyres to testing as well as finding out what your teams and drivers might be like.
The engine stats are slightly random but have a base so the engines that you think are rubbish probably are and the usual suspects of Renault, Honda and BMW are likely to be good.

This somewhat reminds me of another series on another forum I used to partake in. Scorinators were used, RPs were rewarded, and the stories were good. And then the quality of the community just eroded, and then the n00bs and flaming came along. Other than that, I wasn't even allowed on the forum by 'law', as only people 13 years and above were allowed to post. Thankfully, my maturity saved that!
But I'd had enough, and found F1 Rejects.
I'll submit my entry soon.
Also, I'll be honest. I employ somewhat the same system in the F1CC, though I won't give exact numbers.

Had a few issues with yahoo mail not wanting to send BCC mails. However it seems to have sorted itself out and everyone now has a multipage questionnaire to fill in . Who will be the Ferrari of the game and who will be LIFEless and forced to beg on the streets in the rain with a "Have F1 Team please help" written in crayon on a piece of cardboard and a tyre warmer for warmth?

Re: Formula 1 RPG / PBM game
Everyone who entered has finally sent me their questionnaires back, wayhee. I shall be sending everyone a brief description of their teams, estimated budget and some engine and tyre offers tomorrow.
Assigned drivers will be giving their contract demands to you, and it is up to you if you play ball or get the team manager to do the deal.
You will also been given the option to test some drivers (real and computer ones) as well as engines and tyres to find the engine and tyre you want for the season as well as trying to work out where your car can be improved, before the season gets under way.
Testing will be done over the next two weeks (depending on how long it takes people to respond).
Test circuits will be...
1. Jerez - Spain
2. Silverstone - UK
3. Suzuka - Japan
There are 14 teams entered with 25 drivers battling for drives, there are also a number of computer controlled drivers too.

An update :
I am really sorry that I have not managed to run this game yet, I have been in and out of hospital as I do have a form of leukaemia but as my signature says I am not dead yet.
I have been working on the stats and I would like to try and run a season of the game, so I will be emailing everyone that signed up and I hope we can do preseason testing this week and then run a game every week. Who knows maybe Foxdale will score some points in this series
Dave

I am really sorry that I have not managed to run this game yet, I have been in and out of hospital as I do have a form of leukaemia but as my signature says I am not dead yet.
I have been working on the stats and I would like to try and run a season of the game, so I will be emailing everyone that signed up and I hope we can do preseason testing this week and then run a game every week. Who knows maybe Foxdale will score some points in this series

Well, I hope your recovery goes well and is as speedy as possible. And thanks for the plug for Foxdale - they need all the help they can get!

I really hope everything goes for the best and that you can recover as quickly as possible! So take your time.

I was just going through my e-mails the other day and was wondering what was happening with this. I didn't expect this to be the reason why you hadn't contacted us for a while Dave. All the best with your recovery.
