Who cares which forum it's in? :)

Anyway, thank goodness we don't still have the 1991 - 2002 points system, only 5 teams would have scored with that in place!

Yes, indeed. It doesn't matter if it's from this season. For me, it falls into the "Alternative championships" category, so I'm moving the thread there. Thanks for your understanding ;)

Post by Yannick »

In the 1991-2002 system, Rosberg and Schumacher are only separated by 1 point and Massa seems to be really struggling. Yet, the 4th best team is still GenII Capital Racing a/k/a Renault, being also 1 point ahead of BAR-Mercedes.
It is a surprise how little teams (only 6) have scored under this system so far.
I would like to see more drivers unrejectify themselves but with the current reliability of the cars, it's especially hard for backmarkers.

The fact that only 6 teams have scored points (and Sauber only due to the crazy race at Monaco) under the pre-2003 points system just underlines why they HAD to change it!

The way Vettel is going though, I'd have maybe preferred them to have kept the 03 - 09 system in place so he doesn't pull away so much......

But that problem didn't exist when they changed it. Every team scored points in 2002, actually, and that means eleven teams scored points.

I've got a theory that it's actually the other way round. More people scoring points put a bigger emphasis in finishing races and led to an increase in reliability (at least, partially). I know the facts disagree with me, but it's staggering to see how F1 was an unreliable formula for so many years and how suddenly unreliability started to decrease very fast, even before the engine freeze.

Interesting how long Renault are managing to stay ahead of Mercedes in the "top 6" system. That comes from their two podiums at the start of the season; since most Mercedes finishes are between 7th and 10th, they can't take points back.

Note: I'll update the No Real Champions thread when there's something noteworthy about it -right now is just Webber winning every race!

Given that now the top 3 teams now seem intermingled with each other, seriously Massa should be beating Webber on some occasions. It's quite shocking Massa hasn't won a non-champions race this year!

I've stopped making this one as now I'm using an alternative formula with 10 points for the winner, down to 0.5 points for 10th. It's pretty much the same as the real system, but with half points messing up a little bit. More realistic and still similar to the old systems...

I'll happily carry this on to the end of the season. I'll post the next result tonight when I'm at work.

How about 2012? Is there a thread for old points systems for 2012 yet? I think it would help put things into perspective for those who are (still) watching.
