Linked maybe, but a serious contender? I don't know about that. For the Merc seat both Di Resta and Hülkenberg are ahead of him. Specially after Di Resta matching his pace. Renault has Heidfeld, Petrov and Kubica. And then they have Senna and Grosjean waiting in the wings. And Renault usually gives the second seat to one of their test drivers. Eventually if Kubica doesn't come back he could be seriously considered.

Other seats are difficult too. Red Bull has its own line of drivers. They have Buemi, Alguersuari and Ricciardo in line and more in lower formulas. All three mentioned are probably capable of matching Sutil. Ferrari may have a seat in 2013 (Massa has been confirmed for 2012). They would be looking for someone fast but unable to match Alonso. In here, Sutil name can be involved specially since Kubica, who was rumoured to take the job, go injured. If he comes back strongly though, it's probably game over. Nevertheless other names can enter the mix. Guys like Glock, Kovalainen or Kobayashi. Then you have Sauber, which are betting in newcomers and Toro Rosso, which is about the same, choosing between Red Bull backed drivers. Williams might have the need to use an experienced driver if Barrichello eventually retires but right now they far from being a better seat. Lotus aren't better either and are probably only viewed as a F1 career saving move. HRT and Virgin will look into pay drivers with a lot of cash.

I love the use of the word "if", implying Barrichello may never retire. I think you may be right though.

For the vacant Ferrari seat, what about Mansell? He hasn't officially retired has he?

I think he may be overrated in some places outside F1 but, inside, it doesn't look good for him.

Sutil's not overrated. It has the reputation he deserves. What's for sure is, he won't be overrated at all at any point after this incident.

I can't see Mallaya being very happy, after all, the team promotes several different alcoholic drinks, and if Sutil was under the influence during this incident then having him part of that promotion and sponsorship is a bit irresponsible for the image.

Why do they advertise when they know stuff like this happens when people have had too much to drink, and some of them may be road using members of the public? No matter what kind of message the "Drink Responsibly" Camaign tries to send out, it doesnt stop people acting like complete decades on nights out when they've had one too many.

White and McKay.....scottish drink.....Aly.....if your reading this....Sutil's actions in the Chinese bar, if this were to happen in Glasgow, what would happen?

I find this line rather alarming:

"Furthermore, please note that Mr Eric Lux does not exclude commencing an action against any other persons involved in this matter."

Does that actually mean Hamilton was more involved than he's letting on? :o

Bit more than that, surely? If he's assaulted someone and he's going to court over it... won't look good for Force India to keep employing a possible criminal, and, I'm no legal expert, but could he go to jail over this?

Unless Sutil was arrested by government authorities, he won't be going to jail. If it's just a suit, probably all that can be recovered is damages. (Full disclosure: I haven't read the article.)

Assault and grevious bodily harm are both criminal offences, but it is unlikely that Sutil will be sent to prison; if Lux was going for grevious bodily harm with intent, then Sutil could get a prison sentence (depends on the severity). In this case it is likely that he will get a referral order or something minor as he is a first time offender and not a reknowned trouble maker. However, I think an out-of-court settlement out of the public eye view is far more likely for both parties.

Nehoo, is an out of court settlement actually likely? Someone in the Sutil camp mentioned they had tried to get through to Lux a number of times and gotten no responce. Sounds like Lux is the bitter type and is going for everything he can get.

While not trying to defend Lux, I understand his position. I someone stuck broken glass in my neck I too would be pissed off and probably wanted some sort of payback. Obviously I don't know what really happened besides this, but, even if Lux looked for the fight and provoked Sutil, nothing really justifies broken glass in his neck. A few bruises and a black eye would be normal, but not this.

According to this account he didn't actually mean to glass him, just throw a drink over him

http://www.motorsport.com/#/f1/article/ ... &id=405227

My interpretation of this is that in the act of throwing the drink, Sutil either let go of the glass sending drink and receptacle at him, or didn't stop thrusting the drink forward after it passed the point when the contents would be launched and twatted him with it.

If your pissed, both are plausible. Not excusable mind, it's still moronic inebriated retaliative behaviour

Comedy F1 - 2011: Adrian Sutil reviving the myth of Rocky Balboa
