F1 Movie for 2011
Re: F1 Movie for 2011
I would say that doing a documentary means that the final film is more likely to be watchable and enjoyable, since we've seen in the past that racing rarely makes for a good drama film, and it would save us from attempts to crowbar in artificial plot twists when real life is more adept at that.
I'm a little curious as to why they have chosen to focus primarily on the 1968-1982 period, though, given that a lot of important events occurred after that point - the banning of ground effects from 1983 onwards, the first turbo powered champion, the rise of Senna and Prost, the FISA-FOCA war, the way that Bernie and Mosely wrangled control of the sport (although Bernie's clout could cause problems with that point), the arrival of big business and the rise and fall of the manufacturers. I'd hope that they can address that and more, but it'll be a tall order to do all that and yet produce a film with a decent length (and I may have also answered my question about why they are limiting their scope...)
Overall, though, I like the idea of a good documentary film, but I think that they will find it difficult to balance keeping the film interesting and well paced, without skipping out too many details.

Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning:

I would guess the reason they are covering the period is exactly that: It hasn't really been reported on that much and will therefore make a better story in a documentary.

Sounds like its a documentary about the Cosworth DFV, or at the very least, the DFV era. Should be good, after 1979 you never really saw the cars drift through the corners the way they used to. Chalk it up to higher aero-grip.

It's got to be better than the last item Bernie sanctioned, the weak F1 2009 game for Wii (& ipod).

The Wii's graphics let F1-2009 down. Also, Codemasters delayed the main game for 2010, but wanted to put something out for 2009 because they were under contract.
