Who knows what could have happened...fame going over to his head, or just an argument? Anyway, I think it's quite nasty he's not currently speaking to the person who was with him during his escalade to the top and, furthermore, is his father.
In other news, it's a brilliant Spring day here in Manchester, lots of sun and a light, if cool, breeze. Everyone seems to have brought their bicycles to the University, so there was something akin to a cyclist's rush hour down Oxford Road this morning. Lovely.
Lewis Hamilton has admitted he rarely speaks to his father Anthony, who he split with as manager in March.
The pair were inseparable in the early stages of Hamilton’s career, but they decided to end their personal relationship due to Lewis’s "growing maturity" and Anthony’s business interests.
Up until the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Anthony had attended every single race of Lewis’s career, but now the 2008 world champion admits he can’t remember the last time the two spoke.
“I don't remember the last time I spoke with him, but it hasn't been for a couple of weeks," said the McLaren driver. "We might exchange a message every now and then but we don't have too much to discuss at the moment.
"I don't think there is any friction but it's not all smiles and happiness. It's a big change, so it affects all of us.”
Hamilton is still awaiting his first win in 2010 and finished runner up to team mate Jenson Button in yesterday’s Chinese Grand Prix.

Yeah, I know it's a non-story, like whether he still has a female in his life or not, but still... Is this why Button's doing better?

I tell you what, if I made it big in F1, I don't think either of my parents would ever miss a race. It shouldn't be about careers or anything else; it should be about a parent watching his child succeed at what he wants to do with his life.

I know. In a way, it is a product of the exposure F1 drivers have, and have always had. It's not a secret every public figure's private life is deeply scrutinized these days. But it is a lovely day here, let me assure you.

Button is doing better because he has told the team what tyres he wants and when he wants them, and that's paid off for Button twice so far. Whether Lewis doesn't know/guess/take a gamble/get listened to by the team like they listen to Button I don't know. But no matter, that's got nothing to do with personal issues. Even though I'm not a hamilton fan, he hasn't had any lacklustre performances where he mopes about at the back of the field.

No. I think it has to do with Hamilton himself. His performances have been far from shabby anyway, it's just about how competitive the grid is this year. And the McLaren is, by this stage, only the 3rd best in the pecking order. I see him improving as the season progresses. I'm sure if it had to do with his father not speaking to him his performances could get abismally worse than this.

I'd say his performances have been shabby actually. He may be blindingly fast, but he's also blindingly inconsistent. The reason he has to drive out of his skin and wrecking the tyres at the end of stints is because he made a mistake to drop him way back from where he should have been in the first place.
Dare I say it, I think Button may well have a decent tilt at the WDC whereas Hamilton will falter and leave/get kicked out...McLewis to become McButton?

Still, Button has not been impressive in normal races (Bahrain and Malaysia). His tactics on wet may have been very good, but I think he still lacks some pace on dry with the car. Let's see how season progress.
For his whole life Hamilton's dad has probably been pretty pushy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDjRdi5zv-w), now that he can do what he wants he probably wants to take a break from that.

Who, Lewis? I thought he could do what he wanted to a reasonable extent.

Yeah, he can. That's what he I said. He probably wants to take a break from his Dad who he's been in close proximity to since he was born.

I understand. But I still think not speaking to his dad at all is a bit extreme. I know how he feels, but in these cases it's better to think in what he did for him.

it's just adolescence, i've been trough it, lots of forum-ers are going trough it. he will soon discover if he cán do things on his own, or if he will have to need someone to advice him constantly for the rest of his career, after all he's not used to do things on his own, he has to learn it the hard way, and he will probably make lots of mistakes.
that's the problem with overprotecting your children, so fathers in here: don't make your kids a new lewis!

This also explains why he has grown facial hair for the first time...anyone noticed the GIP last weekend? (Goatee-in-progress)

Glad it's a lovely day there. Had great weather here too. Just looking forward to when the temperature in consistantly in the low-to-mid 20's celcius...

What you say about Button making his own calls is something I have also noticed and think is significant. But would be good to know why Lewis is not trying to make the same calls. Harder on his tyres? Bitter memories of his first Chinese GP which cost him the title? Or what this thread is all about?

He's doing that thing that alot of baldies-to-be do. Losing it up top so try to cultivate a bit on the chin to compensate. (I tried it but it looked shite on me!)

If I ever became an F1 driver? I'd not hide anything, simply because eventually people wouldn't give a rats ass about anything I did.
I would hide everything about me, only dropping mysterious hints about the skeletons in my fuel tank. Thus I would cultivate an atmosphere of frightening mystery about me, and little boys would buy many bobble-head dolls of me, making me ecclestoniacally rich.
