Pedro Rodriguez Award - Ricciardo is crowned champion!

Post by tommykl »

OK, I realise that my first stab at this wasn't going to change much in the tables, so I'm going to do the same thing (ie. use Bernie's medals system, where the driver with the most wins takes the championship), only combining this idea with Bleu's idea, taking out the previous champions for every season. A shared position is halved (eg. 1 shared win = 0.5 wins), tiebreakers are used in the following manner:
Number of wins
Number of 2nds
Number of 3rds
Points Scored
Further Countback
Surname Alphabetical Order

Wait... shouldn't Ascari be 1951 champion under this system on the basis he has 0.5 more wins that Fangio?

Did Stirling Moss, Karl Kling and Hans Herrman all share a car to get their third of a third place each? I've heard of two drivers sharing a drive, but never three...

Yes they did.
They shared the car at the Argentine Grand Prix. Originally, 3 cars were shared by 3 drivers each (2nd, 3rd, 4th). The winner was Fangio, so the 3 cars went up to the 3 podium places. The new winner-team had 2 world champions (Farina, Gonzalez), giving the full win to Trintignant. Trintignant and Farina also shared the (alternate) 2nd place car with Umberto Maglioli. Farina being out of the equation, 2nd place was shared between Trinignant and Maglioli. The 3rd placed car was shared by Moss, Kling and Herrmann. None of them being world champions, the 3rd place was equally shared. A crazy race where Trintignant, Behra and Schell all drove a total of 3 cars each!
