Just wandering if anyone has gone out to buy a product/service because you have seen it on the side of an F1 car

With me, the first thing i thought of when i was first old enough to buy fags was a bright yellow Jordan, and i haven't deviated from Benson & Hedges since

Never went out and bought one, but Hugo Boss' suits have always had a special aura for me, due to their affiliation with McLaren. But as an answer to your question I'll have to say 'no'. But F1 sponsorship has brought a great deal of name-recognition. Before their F1 affiliations, I did not know what Vodafone, Santader or the aforementioned Benson & Hedges were.

Confirmed. Every season of their F1 existance - 1984? to 1989.

While it wasn't on the US market at the time, Red Bull's sponsorship of Sauber in 1995 led me to following on that product once it was introduced in the States around 2001. With energy drinks, I have never deviated from Red Bull and once Red Bull Cola hit the market I got some of that too. Both are fine products! Formula One sponsorship and involvement has influenced brand affiliations but only Red Bull lead me to buying their stuff. The quality has kept me onboard, not F1 (or WRC, ice hockey).

I went with Virgin Mobile for my phone plan provider partly on the basis that they sponsored Jordan in 2002. The fact that I got my first mobile in May 2004 shows how much the sponsorship stuck!

There's also a box of Imation multi-coloured floppy disks that will never be opened because of the association with Jordan (in 2001), and I did try Capri-Sun after seeing adverts on the side of Spykers in 2007 (in that particular case, I elected to stick with supermarket-branded fruit juice...)

I also remember secretly coveting the Gametrac when I first saw the adverts associating it with Jordan in 2003. I was soon cured of this when I discovered that the company in question had been missing payment and Jordan (not for the first time in its history) was suing...

Didn't you guys see the factory Nissan Primera team in the BTCC broadcasts on Speedvision back in 1998-2000? Now that was racing and great commentary (taken direct from ITV I believe).

Oh. It's one of the most visible brands in Ireland, and pretty much everywhere eIse I've gone throughout Western Europe.

To be honest I think Red Bull tastes foul. That goes for all energy drinks. A cuppa coffee in the morning is all I really need to perk up my day!

I've sticked to Samsung hard drives ever since Samsung started sponsoring Midland. I bought two or three.
When a certain brand of jeans started sponsoring Midland, I tried to find out if there was any store in Portugal that sold that brand, but found nothing.
I've often looked at gaming equipment from NGS, a sponsor of both Spyker and Midland, but their stuff is and looks too cheap.

I can safely say I've never bought a product because they sponsored an F1 team. On sponsors though, I remember Davina McCall talking about when she was a reporter for MTV when they sponsored Simtek. She would apparently wear these tiny skirts and ask drivers what their favourite songs were in the middle of serious F1 journalists interviewing drivers. I forgot what she said about F1 drivers musical tastes, apart from Barrichello who had terrible taste and liked Celine Dion and the interviewer joked about Gerhard Berger not chatting her up.

I realized a couple of weeks ago that Soverign Bank in the US is owned by Santander which sponsors McLaren. I've also had a couple of Monster Energy drinks who sponsor Jenson Button now. I have drank Red Bull only once in my life and it was gross . i was thinking about flying Virgin Airways a little because of them sponsoring Brawn.

I can remember watching that, it was on an episode of Top Gear.

Here is the list of drivers' musical taste:

She also complained about none of the drivers chatting here up despite her tiny skirts and tight t-shirts she was forced to wear by MTV, though Mark Blundell did ask to see her pierced nipple. :s

On the subject of sponsorship, I have never bought anything because of sponsorship in F1.

Don't laugh. I'm on holidays in Portugal and the motorway just outside my place does have a couple of chicanes. Construction works, see, and they've been there for a year now. I'm glad my father's car currently runs on Bridgestones.

You know perfectly well that's not possible. Believe me, I've tried, and I have to get mine custom-made. It still doesn't work.

No, Finland, which is pretty much the same thing. Only colder.

Seriously, though. There are some global brands which have never found a footing here due to strong local competition. Vodafone is one of those. None of the big international tele-operators offer their services here.

I declare myself an strage case of 99% inmunity to sponsorship, if I tasted or used a product that have been sponsored in F1 it's just pure coincidence. In fact, I believe that public advertising should have fired backwards if the world would hace been populated by people like me.

If your product it's good, then i'll buy it, don't waste your money in ads, I said to you i'll buy it, make me a discount if you want to throw away your money. If I need your product i´ll buy it, it doesnt matter if you are putting your money away in fancy cars. If your product is pour, I won't buy it, no matter how million's you'll expend in pit-babes. And if I don't need it, I simply won't need it because your drvier wears a cap with your name.

So, i admit that making the brand known to the world it's important, but once the target market have been reached there is no use to me.

Therefore, the other 1% is viral marketing, wich is the opposite of marketing, and that's how I end in the cinema to justto watch Cloverfield in the premiere even not knowig about what the hell will be the genre.

Ever since Red Bull bought Jaguar in 2005, I've been almost hooked on Red Bull (though I had been drinking it before), the only reason why I don't buy it more is that it's too expensive. I always buy a can when they win a race, though. I've also wanted to try Kingfisher since 2008, but sadly it doesn't seem to be available anywhere here (in the Netherlands).
I also used to drink Capri-Sun as a child and was surprisedly amused when I saw they sponsor Sutil.
