Searching for a logo

Post by mediocre »

Hi guys,

I'm kind of investigating the history of 1994 and every once in a while stumble upon sponsors, I've never heard of. A mistery is a sponsor on the rear wing endplate that Simtek used at the Pacific GP. It seems to also have some kind of a German flag or something.

Image

Could you guys help me finding out who/what that is? :|

Haha, I remember that sponsor from some modding forum! I think it was for GP2 or Rfactor or something, and someone had made a carset in which that sponsor showed up as "No bathplugging idea" or something. XD

Having said that, the second word appears to be "ROCOS". I can't read the first word at all, and my eyesight is quite good..

It looks more like POCOS to me, but either could be right. The first part of the first word looks vaguely like 'EAST' to me, if that's any help.

I'm just browsing through old threads, wondering if one in particular exists and stumbled upon this - anybody got an answer to this thread yet?

The name of the sponsor is Sastiana Pocos, as you can see in this picture:

But surely it'd be more expensive to buy some paint and put some fake logo on the car than to leave it blank

See, what HRT should have done, while they were based in Germany, was get Aldi to sponsor them. Not with the Aldi logo, but with all the fake "brands" that their products are sold as. Anyone who's never shopped there will never know the difference.

I found another couple of pics with that logo on the S941, thanks to F1 Nostalgia blog, and trying to enlarge those photos I think the exact wording is "Mastana Foods". Currently there is a company with that name but it's based in India and, actually, I don't have any clue what link can be between that and the German flag.

Anyway I'm pretty sure that the second word is 'foods'. :)

I know the blog F1 nostalgia and sometimes I read it (I try to, it's a little difficult for me to understand Portoguese).
It seems that the blogger knows a lot of things about the Simtek team... I'll try to ask him, in a comment, if he knows something about that logo.

It's definitely not "Sastiana Pocos". I know the guy who made this 3D render, we discussed a lot about it and we both have no idea. Neither do about 100 other people I asked.

The mysterious thing is that there actually are decent photos with the right perspective, but that particular logo is always blurry, unreadable or something else that makes me mad.

I've posted in the Simtek thread in Autosport.com's Nostalgia Forum asking for assistance - it's possible that an ex-Simtek team member or two read that forum, so it's worth a shot if none of us outsiders can decipher the photos.

I've checked my F1 library and found an additional photo of Ratzenberger at the Pacific Grand Prix that I have not seen online, but sadly the logo remains illegible.

What happened to the original Simteks? Are there any in a museum somewhere which one of us could go to visit to check it out? (If a Simtek is on display anywhere in Britain this summer, I may be able to go and check it out...)

Watching photos of Simteks from other grand prix, I noticed that Simtek seemed to have some local sponsors, which were present on the car just for one race, depending on the country where those races took place. So, despite the German flag’s colours and the fact it’s not written with Japanese ideograms, I think it that this one of Pacific grand prix could be a Japanese company (or at least an Asian company).
Maybe here on the forum there’s someone from Japan who could recognize the logo?

Simtek had money just to produce two cars, so the Simteks of Pacific grand prix where probably used in the following grand prix, with other sponsors on.

Surely they had more than two chassis? Presumably Ratzenberger's chassis became written off, and I would imagine the same happened to Montermini's after his Barcelona crash.

Yes, they had to rebuild new chassis' after both accidents, setting back their finances even further.
