2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
For some reason unbeknownst to myself, I decided to figure out the 2008 season if a different points scoring system was in place, one that rewarded rejectfulness: 10 points for 22nd (or 20th after Supah Agoori left), 8 for 21st, 6 for 20th and so on. Generally it meant that the first driver to retire scored ten points.
I've so far done the first three races (Australia, Malaysia and Bahrain), and I'll do more if any interest is shown.

Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
Well, I've done more, despite no interest being shown in the last hour and a half (I don't know what I was expecting really), mainly because doing this is sort of enjoyable and I've nothing better to do. So here's up to the British GP, halfway through the season.

Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
This is actually pretty interesting, especially when BMW appear to be the least reject-worthy team last year, for at least the first half. A far cry from this year.

Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
Thats fairly interesting, it just goes to show that Heidfeld didn't have a bad season.

Lies. He just finished every race.
Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
The funny thing is that it's not the exact reverse of the real final standings.
MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS
Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
I was thinking counting these reverse points with different fashion - you have to finish race to get points. So for example in British GP 2008 Felipe Massa (remember, after all those spins he still managed to finish) was the winner and Lewis Hamilton was 13th.

2009 Hungarian GP

Fisi+6
Kubica+5
Piquet+4
Heidfeld+3
Barrichello+2
Nakajima+1
The thing with that though is that surely if you're eliminating retirements, then rejectful behaviour often gets away unscathed. Hamilton wouldn't have got any points at Canada last year, for example, despite making an extremely amateurish error.

Perhaps we should eliminate only mechanical retirements instead of all retirements? Of course, in order to cover those who have a reject-worthy drive and then drop out of the running, ROTR's could be an automatic qualification for some points.

Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
It was to be expected that Force India would win this by a countrymile, as they were very poor and had lots of retirements last year.
But what I find interesting about this is how high the Toro Rossos are in the rejectdom stakes, given that they finished 6th among the constructors
I'm gonna make this for 2009 so far.

Re: 2008 Reverse Points-Scoring
Here they are. Half points were awarded for the Malaysian GP:
Drivers Championship
Adrian Sutil 43,5
Sébastien Buemi 38
Sébastien Bourdais 33
Kazuki Nakajima 31
Giancarlo Fisichella 31
Robert Kubica 28,5
Nelson Piquet 25,5
Lewis Hamilton 25
Heikki Kovalainen 25
Felipe Massa 20
Jarno Trulli 17
Sebastian Vettel 13
Nick Heidfeld 9
Kimi Räikkönen 9
Rubens Barrichello 8
Fernando Alonso 8
Nico Rosberg 3
Jaime Alguersuari 3
Not classified: Timo Glock, Jenson Button and Mark Webber.
Constructors Championship
Force India 74,5
Toro Rosso 74
McLaren 50
BMW 37,5
Williams 34
Renault 33,5
Ferrari 29
Toyota 17
Red Bull 13
Brawn 8
Interesting facts:
-Glock, Button and Webber are yet to score.
-Not even when given a shitty car can Heidfeld be brilliant. He's there, but you always forget it, no matter if his car is good or bad.
-The opposite applies to Nakajima: he will be always chasing the heaven of rejectdom, even when given a good car.
-McLaren's season has been clearly rejectful, yet they've won a race.
-Adrian Sutil is well on his way to retain his crown. And he probably won it in 2007, too, as he had the worst car and Albers didn't finish the season...
