I was talking to my friend in school the other day, he has a reputation as a bit of a stoner but is a really nice guy. Anyway, the topic of my love for F1 came up in conversation, and soon we were delving deep into my adoration of rejects. This is approximately how it went:
___
Him: So... who's the worst driver ever?
Me: Probably Yuji Ide or Jean-Denis Deletraz, they were both just really slow, so slow that they were dangerous for other drivers to be on the same track.
Him: (laughs) So did they crash alot?
Me: They both were in only a couple of races because they were so horrendous, but Ide was had a couple of big crashes.
Him: Who's the worst now?
Me: Sakon. Sakon Yamamoto. No doubt about it. He actually pays his team for his drive rather than the other way around.
Him: (laughs) And who crashes the most?
Me: Kamui Kobayashi probably, I love him unhealthily. He's a beautiful, beautiful man.
Him: Is Yamamamam beautiful?
Me: Not as much.
Him: Are most drivers Japanese?
Me: If only.
___
Then the teacher arrived.

Re: Greatest F1 Conversation I've Ever Had
If only I could have a conversation with someone in which I could introduce Jean-Denis Déletraz...
However, I'm amazed you didn't talk him about Shinji Nakano.

The beauty of this forum is that we appreciate the efforts (and failures!) of those at the back end of the grid. It's a shame that not everyone does!

That's what drove me away from the F1weekly forums. They think all that happens in F1 happens in the first three rows of the grid - totally ignorant to the fact that the really interesting stories happen at the other end of the grid. And people there do jobs just as good as those at the front. I will forever have the (not so humble) opinion that keeping a team afloat for 20 years on a shoestring budget (as my all-time-favourites Minardi did) is a much bigger achievement than winning races with several hundred million dollars in one's pocket. Everybody (except Toyota, that is) can win when they have enough money and time...
Re: Greatest F1 Conversation I've Ever Had
Today, I had something of a shocker at my Language class. As I use to do, I bring my netbook with me to the classes to take notes. I have a picture on the background of Ayrton Senna in the Lotus about to be passed by Nelson Piquet at the 1986 Hungarian GP. The teacher approached me, saw the picture and said "That's Ayrton Senna in the Lotus". After the class, he approached me and said he was very surprised of someone with interest in old F1. As it turned out, the guy lived in Italy for several years and used to watch F1 races on TV there in the 80s and 90s. He began talking about drivers of that era, and he was very knowledgeable in that regard. We had quite a good piece of conversation. Indeed, the only really serious F1 conversation I ever had outside of this forum.

young teachers with interest in sports = best classes ever
I fondly remember sports discussions with my math teacher, who just gave instructions to a girl at the blackboard and then went to chat with us in the back of the classroom.

there's a class at my school called street law. it's a modern law class that covers the US bill of rights to gang violence. anyway, the teacher of the class is a big f1 fan, and he's always wearing reject merch (such as the 2004 minardi jacket he wore today).
he realized i was an f1 fan when i showed up to class wearing my matching midland hat and shirt, and now we frequently talk about the new teams, and what was USF1.

I wished I had friends/teachers like you guys. The only person whom I actually use my mouth to talk to about the sport is my mum.

I've never talked about Formula One with anyone besides my dad and my mom's German parents (auf Deutsch).
