GPM2, The Chairman Game.

Post by Shadaza »

Image

It is 1997.
Welcome to GPM2, The Chairman Game.
Welcome to the Piranha club.

Unlike the manager game, here the aim is political power, the opportunity to make your team or organisation the greatest and everyone else at your mercy. Think el Presidente mixed with F1. All chairmen here are welcome to the F1 board of directors where you get to decide just how the future of F1 is going to run.

The nature of this sign up is very open ended but there are going to be a few ground rules which I will post now:

1.I (Shadaza) shall take the role of general secretary of the board, which means It will be up to me to tally votes and present information in as clear and concise a manner as possible. I will be the only member of the board who has no voting power from the onset (There may be situations where people lose their vote but this will not happen initially) and I shall remain impartial.

2.There will be a maximum of 12 Formula one teams in a season, and there will always be 16 races in a season at which after each round of scoring a world champion driver and team will be crowned. Despite the fact there is only 12 teams, this is by no means the limit of people in the chairman game.

3.One User one vote, unless other wise agreed.

4.More a general forum rule then anything but this is a friendly forum and anything to disrupt that won't be tolerated.

Now as this is an all new concept to this forum I have a few suggestions of roles for the board:

1.Team Principle: As leader of one of the 12 teams, your goal is to put forward the best interests of your own team. This can extend to Signing Drivers and engines, suggesting restrictions on other teams, suggesting boosts to your own team etc. This is the role most similar to the other GPM2 game running.

2.FIA Chief: Your role is to serve the best interest of the sport....or even the best interest of yourself. You can either try and keep things fair and just, or attempt to rule with an iron fist and have blatant biases.

3.Engine supplier: Your goal is to promote your engine brand the best way possible, by supplying as many teams as possible and by having more success then other engine manufactures, this role is not so intensive so may be a good option for people who don't have so much free time.

If anyone has any other role suggestions then by all means come forward.

More information to follow.

The teams set for 1997 are

Ferrari:Fmecha
Williams:DanielPT
McLaren:TheMaskedLapwing Renamed Nissan Motorsport
Benetton: andrew
Jordan:tommykl
Prost: Blind Cave Salamander Renamed Gauthier F1.
Sauber: wafflecat
Arrows:Takagi-for-the-win
Stewart:Klon
Tyrrell:kostas22 Renamed Wind-Lamborghini
Minardi: Backmarker
Lola:JeremyMcLean

Whilst the following Engine manufacturers have F1 spec Engines:
Renault
Yameha:Tristan1117
Ford
Mugen-Honda
Hart
Chevrolet: Kostas
Ferrari:Fmecha
BMW:MigelNansell
Peugeot
Honda
Alfa Romeo:pasta_maldonado
Mercedes: Ferrarist
Nissan: TheMaskedLapwig
Al Melling: Dr Baker

And Finally we have the following candidates for FIA president:
1.Chris Forbes (Eurobrun) - Current Chairman of Sauber

2.Tristan1117-Boss of Yameha
3.DanielPT-Williams CEO
4.Thomas Nurmester (Nuppiz)-Senior FIA official

But wait there is more possible roles!
Circuit representatives
Driver representatives
Journalists/Media
Series Sponsors and more.

Obviously anyone who decides to become a team principle has total control on all aspects of the team, including name.

I must also add the BlindCaveSalamander, East Londoner and DanielPT have priority over choosing roles as they responded to the advert in the other thread.

And here is a hypothetical situation so you guys can get your mind in to the game.

"Ferrari argue they should have 2 votes in the committee because they are both a team and an engine supplier, the majority of the teams object so the decision comes down to the head of the FIA. The head of the FIA agrees Ferrari should have 2 votes, but as a result of this the other teams call for a vote of no confidence and the head of the FIA is forced to step down or face a breakaway series."

I think I'll have a stab at becoming the new Flavio Briatorie, and thus become the new Benetton principal.

Ok, that makes sense, do you want to be head of a factory Mercedes team or do you wish to stay just as a supplier for now?

BlindCaveSalamander wrote:Sign me up as Team Principle of Prost.

No Problem.

Again no Problem

Also to symbolise how the "fairness" of MTBMW is not here, drivers are fist come first serve .

Another suggestion is you may want to an elect a chief representative for the teams, but of course you would have be careful who you pick.

Lola were intending to have their own Al Melling-designed engine during 1997, I believe. May I take on the role of the Lola-engine supply?

EDIT: This engine is mentioned in their Wikipedia entry, but not on their F1 Rejects profile!

So you want to supply Lola but not control Lola. Hmm, all that would depend on the(if any) chairman of the Lola team, But I can create an "Al Melling" engine corperation for you regardless if you win the contract or not.

Good stuff.

For the head of the FIA role it won't be first come first serve like the other roles, applicants must make an introductory speech and then be "sworn in" by the other chairmen. Naturally this will be an arbitary process if only one person applies for the role but if two or more people do...fun times.

I'll back our customers for now, plus I'll try to give as many seats as possible to our works drivers from the former ITC and the CART series. Here's a list with our "recommendations":
- Al Unser Jr.
- Paul Tracy
- Greg Moore
- Dario Franchitti
- Jan Magnussen
- Bernd Schneider

If any team signs one of these drivers, they may expect a little "discount" on their Mercedes engines.

Lamborghini is looking to link up with an existing team, to form a new works Lamborghini squad. They will recieve a $5 million bonus, but the clause is they must have an Italian RACE driver. Test driver is unsatisfactory.

So looks like our first vote will be deciding on FIA president. You and eurobrun should probably make a post explaining what you would do as president and what your policy would be.

E.g give team more power, try and help the smaller teams, makes sure the classic races stay on the calendar, you could even try threats "those that don't vote for me will be excluded from the championship for "x" number of races ^^.

My idea of the FIA president role is essentially the person in control of balance and is also the person who decides if something should be called to vote, however how you guys play the role is up to you.

News has just filtered through from France that Alain Prost has been outbid in his attempt to purchase the Ligier team. Guillaume Gauthier, who has attempted on several previous occasions to get into F1 management, came somehwat out of left field after numerous attempts to found his own team failed before even getting to the grid, and previously expressed no interest in buying Ligier. The sometime-successful Frenchman is expected to make a formal announcment later this week, but has already indicated he will rename the team to Gauthier F1, in line with his previous efforts.

Mercedes is pleased that Gauthier has an interest in Greg Moore. The discount is simple. For every hired driver, you'll get a 10% discount. Thus you can get a maximum discount of 30%. Normally a Mercedes engine would cost 2.000.000$ per engine, but when you get the maximum 30% discount, you'll just pay 4.200.000$ for three engines.*

However, we'd like to clarify that people like Al Unser Jr. or Paul Tracy are not interested in being test drivers. However, we have a list with "junior drivers", so teams still have a change to get a 30% discount:

- Juan-Pablo Montoya
- Ricardo Zonta
- Nick Heidfeld
- Alexander Wurz

*Assuming that we keep the original GPM2 costs for an engine.

Whilst we await further sign ups and Presidential candidate speeches, something to be considered is the calender for the 1997 season.

Image
The 4 not listed on the calendar are Estoril, AIda, Kyalami and Adelaide.
Aside from those 20 circuits there are other circuit mods out there I could bring in.

It is up to the eventual president of the FIA to decide how the calender is formed, but if you want to make your opinions heard now go ahead :).

Mercedes joins the voices in favor of removing Catalunya. But is should be replaced with Kyalami, so Formula One can really claim to race on all continents. We'd also like to suggest a race in the United States. But not at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, its owner doesn't seem to be a competent businessman. Maybe we should do a weekend together with CART. We could throw out Hungaroring out of the schedule, and replace it with something like Long Beach*.

* If the track existed for GPM2.

tristan1117's Presidential Speech:

"Hello, I would like to announce my intention to run for the presidency of the FIA."

(This song begins to play.)

"That's right folks, my campaign is based on bringing back the 80s! Ask any casual F1 fan on the street and they'll say that the 1980s were the Golden Age of Formula One, right? We had great rivalries, great racing and turbo engines! That is why I think that the 80s should rule and that the 90s should be dumped on the kerb. On to my proposal!

Part 1: The Cars
* Technical restrictions will be relaxed. All technology (except traction control, active susp. and ground effects) can be researched. The FIA will take a vow to not ban any parts during the season (is that possible in the game Shadaza?)
* Turbo engines will be brought back and given to all teams. Engine development will be encouraged. (I know turbo engines aren't done well in GPM2 but we can pretend we have them)

Part 2: The Calendar
* As you can see, I am all about providing services to the fans. One of those services is getting rid of dull circuits! That means Catalunya and Magny-Cours are out with Adelaide and Kyalami in. I don't think we need a French race.

Part 3: The Teams
* After Ferrari's ridiculous assumption that they are better than everyone in the sport, I propose that Minardi and Ferrari switch places. Yes, Minardi should get ridiculous amounts of funding and the best staff while Ferrari will get to work with half the money and average staff. We'll see who's bigger than the sport now!
* The teams will stay close together. The great fear in opening the tech regulations is that one team will run away with the title a la Williams in 1992. That's relatively unexciting so the FIA will be providing cash subsidies (using "IAMACHEAT") to the teams as a "force equalizer".
* MasterCard Lola must survive into the second season. We will ensure this process.
* If you need quality Yamaha engines, we are willing to deal.

Thank you for your time."
