F1 Online: The Game

Post by TomWazzleshaw »

I managed to get into the Closed Beta this morning and, I must say that I'm already liking the game a lot. Looks like Mr Melrose has a new hobby once his F1 career finishes

I signed up and was selected for the first Closed Beta, but my computer was too slow to actually start anything. It's better now, so I hope that I'll be able to actually try it :)

It's sort of like a combination of GPM2 and Line Driver. Works pretty decent actually, but I absolutely despise the camera.

Does one need Windows 7 for the game to function properly?

Don't think so, it's browser-based.

Fixed, based on my obeservations (i.e. YouTube videos) . ;) (Google MRO for details ;))

I'd wait for Open Beta anyway, but meh.

I see your Aussie connection and raise you TMLW.

A couple of weeks ago while travelling down a motorway, I saw a lorry with the name "Rhys Davies Transport" written on the side. And, said logistics company is based in (old) South Wales. Weird coincidence or what

I've established that 80% of the people on there can't drive if their life depended on it. Hell, with some of the antics they're pulling off, they make Schumacher look like a saint. Oh the joys of online racing

Open Beta is now open. If you see a bright orange Melrose Racing car on track, it'll be me just about to ram you off the road when I've inevitably lost what little patience I have for the poor sods who happen to be in the same race as me. :P

Since the game uses Codemasters Racenet as the log-in basis, why don't we add each other so we can race against each other after we all get good parts? I swear, it's more like racing in F3 when you first start with many idiots driving at once.

Big issues:

*It's pay to win, kinda
*Braking is irrelevant.
*The camera should always be behind the car, not cycling around.

Oh, and I am CB23 for Ravenwest GP.

Actually, I've just found out. On the Racenet homepage, you simply type the driver's name in the driver search function, click on their profile and send a friend request from there. I'm assuming this is your profile, correct?

I just noticed something in-game: the Mercedes has a (minor) platypus nose. Anyone noticing that, in-game or in the 2011 season? :?

Something similar can be seen in HRT.

Here's a tip for anyone: If you're running third, when on the final straight you are mush faster than the guy running second and can pass him, don't, because the James Hunt will run you into the wall and cost you your first podium

Oh and I''m considering reviving the F1 Rejects World Championship in the style of the Grand Turismo Championship using the time trial mode. As there are four different classes in F1 Online, we'll have separate class championships but since driver talent can easily make up for a rubbish car (as proven by the 90% of the people on there who can't drive  ) there won't be any time moderation. Who's up for it?

The Kim Jong-Un Golden Speed Army (or Kim Jong-Un Go, as the character limit insists) would be up for this.

Mouse controls, lag, Unity player is awful, the people are awful.

It is like they took a classic 2day game and ruined it with a 3dHD remake.

Pretty much. It gets better at the higher levels - at least, it did in the closed beta, where the idiots couldn't get to for their love of crashing.

Mouse controls. MOUSE CONTROLS. Now who the bathplug though that was an ingenious idea for such a game? I'm on a laptop, I can barely control the car in a straight line, and braking is another thing altogether. Forget it, technology and modern life is rubbish.

3 Million for the race control building? Sigh....

I want WASD controls and a traditional race game camera, behind the car. I'm having issues getting into a good rhythm with the constantly changing camera perspective.

Meh, I will go back to Pyroland. I enjoy the perma-acid.

But you are not missing much, even for a 100% free browser game, It is a massive disappointment.

It's woeful. I've just tried the trial and apart from it taking ages to load up, the car is impossible to control, even with an external mouse. The view is just weird, why go against pretty much every mainstream racing game that's ever been made and offer a birds eye view perspective? I guess it saves on the graphics but still...

Certainly won't be wasting any more of my time with that again!

I've already gotten bored with it, mostly due to the 3-lap system, the ramming, the fact that everything takes too long and that I lost everything that I had in closed beta, but it's still miles better than iGP. For one, you can actually play instead of just managing stuff.
Sticking his neck on the line, one post at a time. Oh, and Singapore is still better than Monaco.
