but there was this back in 1987

Two new sub-championships were created for the 1987 season. The Jim Clark Trophy for drivers of cars powered by naturally aspirated engines and its parallel championship for constructors, the Colin Chapman Trophy, helped encourage the teams who did not have access to turbocharged engines, while at the same time acknowledging the forthcoming ban on turbos for the 1989 Formula One season. British driver Jonathan Palmer (Tyrrell DG016) won the championship, wrapping it up early in Japan and finishing 21 points ahead of his French teammate Philippe Streiff. As Tyrrell was the only two-car team in the Colin Chapman trophy, they dominated. Philippe Alliot's results in the Larrousse-entered Lola LC87 were sufficient to earn him third place in the Jim Clark Trophy and Lola second in the Colin Chapman Trophy :geek:

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?

Hard to see where to draw a line for who to include and not to be honest. I probably would have included Lotus as they haven't won a race but it would have probably meant Kimi walks it. :)

I did it based on constructor standings but it was hard to figure out where to draw the line. Then again, Kimi is still in with an outside shot of the title as he's currently 3rd, ahead of one Lewis Hamilton.

Standings updated to post-Japan

With Nico Rosberg being taken out on lap 1, Sergio Perez missed a golden opportunity to close up on the championship leader by binning it in a Suzuka gravel trap. Mercedes' and Sauber's loss however was Force India's gain as with Hulkenberg 2nd and Di Resta 6th, they catapulted themselves into the lead of the constructors title by a single point over Mercedes with Sauber only a further 5 points behind.

Standings updated to post-Korea

Hulkenberg scores his second win of the year which catapults him right into title contention with Rosberg failing to score for the second week in a row. With Mercedes gradually slipping back and Sauber having an off weekend, the title race is heating up with Force India having all the momentum heading into the final few races of the year. Toro Rosso meanwhile score a huge result in Yeongam in the form of a double podium which gets them ahead of Williams in the championship.
