Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2013 Spain

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Charles Pic's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until 17th, I'll do the results then.

My nominations
1 - Ricciardo
Scored another point, good race
2 - Gutierrez
Fastest lap, and finally a decent show.

1. Gutiérrez - Blocking Räikkönen was the only thing he did wrong all weekend. Not only did he just miss out on a point but also led the race for a while and set the fastest lap!
2. Van der Garde - Qualifying ahead of the other backmarkers was very impressive and unexpected. He could have finished ahead of them as well if it wasn't for the wheel problem.

1) Pic, he almost got past Bottas towards the end and ran really well all race. I didn't expect Caterham to do that well.

2) Gutierrez, first decent showing of the year, hopefully there's more to come from him.

1. Ricciardo - A fine drive, leaving Vergne well in his wake even before Vergne's flat tyre. Definitely proving himself to be the more worthy of the two Toro Rosso drivers.
2. Gutierrez - He actually did something useful for once.

2.-Charles Pic: Another improvement from dead last

The Clash of the Titans Award goes to Fernando Alonso for the double pass on lap 1. If only he discard his diva side...

1: Gutierrez: That was him in that car, right? Solid performance all the way through, and made up for that mistake yesterday.
2: Massa: 9th to third, and gave Hamilton a run for his money.

1. Ricciardo. I'm gradually becoming more and more impressed. A points finish for STR is nothing to scoff at.
2. Gutierrez. Mexican drivers seem to respond to media vitriol incredibly well.

2) Pic - Almost ahead of Bottas on merit.

1. Gutierrez
2. Pic, for hounding the Williams car of Bottas.
Honorable mention to Ricciardo who scored a point and outran his teammate by a significant margin, although the fact he only gained one position in the race limits my opinion of him.

1-GVDG: Until his wheel fell off,he was on course to beating a Williams.

2-Charles Pic: I doubt anyone would've Pic-ed him to beat a Williams.Although he did not beat any of William's Coloni,he sure gave him the fright of his Life.

1- Gutierrez: Now, I wasn't expecting that!
2- Rosberg, for managing to finish much much further up the road than Hamilton. He is being quite competitive when compared to his more illustrious team-mate.

1. Guiterrez Guiterrez. Fantastic! Fastest lap and could have gotten points.
2. Ricciardo. Another point for Toro Rosso. I sense a seat change next year...

Honorable mention to Adrian Sutil, who came back from last to be battling with the dead slow Hamilton.

Another honorable mention to Geido van der Garde, for being competitive for the first time in forever.
