Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Sochi 2017

Post by Londoner »

1. Stoffel Vandoorne's car - It actually made it to the chequered flag! :chilton:

2. J.R. Hildebrand for getting the Short Bus on the podium at Phoenix.

1. Valtteri Bottas: Yes, he drove a Mercedes but who cares? A brilliant and completely deserved first win!
2. Force India: For their effort not only today but all season. They're always maximizing their chances, probably better than any other team.

1) Valterri Bottas: Got it right on the first lap and held his own until the end.

2) Lance Stroll: Actually making it to the end of a Grand Prix a position down from getting points.

1. Bottas; written off as a "number two driver" and a liability to a Merc WCC prior to the weekend by some observers, then promptly outperformed Hamilton comprehensively and won- I'd say that's pretty improbable.
2. Ocon; Another strong drive with an imperfect car
HM:
Vandoorne; he actually finished! (it's becoming a bit sad that this counts as success for McHonda)
Force India; performed strongly amid management turmoil
Stroll; actually finished a race with only one driver error.

1- Bottas- Did not expect him to win due to the pace of Ferrari over the weekend. And lets be honest. If it wasn't for his overtake at the start then Vettel would have disappeared into the distance and it would be another Vettel wins boring race

2- Vandoorne- The fact that he managed to get that useless Engine to the finish AND finished ahead of the Saubers was a near Miracle!!

Hm- Stroll- managed to finish !! Force India- 4th in the constructors looks more and more likely!!
Benetton of 1992. Never a reject

1/ Valtteri Bottas - For being a rich man's Rubens Barrichello.

2/ Ted Kravitz - For branching out and taking his unique brand of bumbling inanity to the gridwalk.

1. Bottas
- Not a huge suprise of course since he's driving a Mercedes but the way he outperformed Hamilton all weekend deserves him the nomination.

2. Force India
- Quietly collecting good points race after race and cementing their place as the fourth best team.

Bottas: Excellent off the start...wasn't expecting that; controlled the race; withstood the late pressure. Top drive to take first win.

No one else stood out particularly for me. Ocon / FI maybe.

1- Bottas, for winning his first Grand Prix. I think he's better than we thought.
2- Vandoorne, for finish the Gp, that's remarkable because of the awful car he's driving. Could Mclaren and Honda be worst than this?

1. Bottas for taking his first win, and blitzing Hamilton throughout the entire weekend.
2. Vandoorne's car for actually making it to the chequered flag, even if it wasn't near the points.

HMs for Force India for another solid weekend again, and perhaps defying expectations that they would fall down the finishing order this season (so far, at least), and Alonso for being classified ahead of Grosjean and Palmer by the FOM graphics for the whole race despite not actually starting.

Well the results are in, and Valtteri Bottas wins the IIDOTR for his maiden win, and rightly so - a great drive, regardless of his machinery. The scores are as follows:

1 Valtteri Bottas 120
2 Stoffel Vandoorne('s car) 44

3 Esteban Ocon 35
4 Lance Stroll 28
5 Force India 21
6 J.R. Hildebrand 6
= Ted Kravitz 6
= Kevin Magnussen 6

Stoffel Vandoorne and his reliant McLaren take second place, after the miracle occurred of the Belgian being able to at least make it 90 minutes without his car failing.
