It sort of died with the transfer to live coverage instead but I may be able to put something together for Indy at the end of the season.
2015 F2RWRS DHL German Grand Prix
Race
Positives
Gillet ENB - It's starting to become abundantly clear that this kid is something special around street circuits; probably because he grew up with the Monaco GP right on his doorstep. Either way, it was obvious from lap 1 that Albertini was in it to win it. He didn't have it easy though as he had to make one more stop than all his immediate rivals, which meant he had to overtake cars on track to get back into the lead, and with some assistance from the incredibly from the uncharacteristically unhelpful Terry Hawkin meant that Albertini was able to overtake Alberto Cara late in the race to take home an emotional first victory. Gergor Pascal in the second car meanwhile was actually the beneficiary of luck, rather than being the victim like he usually is, as he also made his two stop strategy work to score his first career points in 6th place, giving Gillet their biggest ever points haul on a single weekend.
Yuka Katayama - The Japanese driver was back in fine form this weekend at a track which wasn't necessarily one of her favourites. She made up one third of the front-running trio that went for the one-stop strategy (the others being Cara and Wouter Lamberigts) which paid off handsomely for all three of them as they were 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the closing stages. With Cara retiring with a Transmission failure and Lamberigts losing out to Kremnicky, it was her who secured her first career podium with a fine second place season, which was especially crucial as Josh Carlisle was having one of his really off days down in the midfield.
RonDen Racing Engineering - As a whole, this was the team's best weekend of the year as they had managed to get both Lamberigts and Gianluigi Pazzini firing on all cylinders, and it showed with bother their drivers line-astern in 4th and 5th, behind stablemate Kremnicky in the works Alitalia-Lancia. All this was despite Pazzini getting involved in the first lap madness caused by the two Alitalias and Lamberigts having an awful pitstop which dropped him from second to about 7th on the road, and crucially behind both Cara and Katayama who had made literally no impression on the Belgian to that point. The result moves the team back ahead of MRT in the teams' championship while Lamberigts now sits an incredible 3rd in the title race as the lead Lancia car to boot.
Martin van der Maeyede - In his first ever F2RWRS race, Martin van der Maeyede proved he was more that capable of holding his own in the ultra-competitive F2RWRS field, even if he isn't able to have the measure of the front-runners just yet. The strategists pulled a masterstroke for the young Dutchman by putting him on the same one-stop plan as many of the leaders, which meant he was leading the race at one point and well on his way to a solid points finish. However, it wasn't to be as he got punted off into the armco at the final corner by Kremnicky, who was having one of his ultra-fast but over-aggressive weekends, ending Maeyede's afternoon.
Negatives
Simpson Motorsport - Just a few weeks ago, Michael Cameron was in control of the drivers' championship with the team in a very strong place in relation to the teams' title battle. After Germany however, the team is in crisis control with Cameron's transmission shearing itself after just a few laps while Anderson was just another of the many victims of Kremnicky's driving this weekend, the team's chances at both titles are slipping away at an alarming rate. With rumours that Anderson may be about to jump ship to focus on his IndyCar career also starting to surface, Dave Simpson's camp is not a very happy place to be right now
GRM Young Lions - After pre-qualifying, they were expected to do well in the race. Instead, what we got was more incompetence as firstly Daniel Melville's right rear wheel tried to make a bid for freedom, forcing him in for an unscheduled stop. After that point, Melville managed to do sod all for the rest of the afternoon on his way to a pointless 12th place finish. Carter Simpson meanwhile was on track for a minor points finish in the sister car before the Transmission decided to let itself go on the front straight. Coupled with Ashley Lilly's spectacular engine failure and Maeyede's accident, it was a miserable race all round for the Holden teams.
Castrol Jones Racing - If you include Josh Carlisle as part of the larger stable, then all three cars had pretty anonymous weekends as all three of them spent the entire race battling each other outside the points position. Hawkin was especially average as after his qualifying antics, he proceeded to be an absolute nuisance to the leaders and was probably the biggest contributors to Cara losing the win to Albertini. Meanwhile, Hansuke Shioya in the other car continues to be on ice that is thinning fast as despite scoring his best result this season, he's still well off where he needs to be in race trim as Jones are now facing the worrying prospect of falling back into Pre-Q.
Bastiaan van Nieuwenhuijzen - Based on qualifying alone, Nieuwenhuijzen should have been in for a good race. Instead, he gets involved in the first lap contretemps, gets relegated to the back of the field and spends the rest of the afternoon being absolutely powerless to overtake the likes of Dave Anderson, Catarina Lopes and the two MRTs. Considering the other three Lancia powered cars had no problem passing people, the fact that Nieuwenhuijzen was so hopeless at the back of the field made his afternoon all the more embarrassing. A late electrical glitch meant that the Dutchman was relegated from 9th down to 13th but by then, it was a lost cause as he fell from 3rd down to 7th in the championship in the space of an hour.
Tommy Nash - If Jones Racing were poor, than this guy was especially awful as he spent all race steadily falling down the order. Despite being on the preferable one stop strategy, he still managed to achieve a grand total of sod all as he trolled around the midfield almost a second off the pace. His afternoon came to a merciful end when a wheel fell off his car but not before nearly taking out Cara and Albertini in one foul swoop. By the end of the race, the Canadian had done more than enough to win the coveted Reject of the Race award, and the ire of team boss Brett Johnson.
