Averting the Split - Alternate IndyCar management series

Post by Ferrarist »

This one picks up where Jeroen's series more or less left off: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5422

But we'll begin in the year 1996, and there won't be any IRL-CART split. The Indianapolis 500 is still part of the IndyCar World Series schedule, and other changes have reached IndyCar. The biggest one is CART allowing Menard to run their V6 engines at Indianapolis boost levels, thus enabling John Menard to enter his team and his engines for a full season campaign. The rules will be very relaxed. Just choose a team, a chassis, an engine and a tire manufacturer. That's it, no money, no problem. But remember, first come, first serve! However, there is a slight exception for established guys from other top-series like Formula One or the NASCAR Winston Cup. In case you want to sign Michael Schumacher or Dale Earnhardt for your team, I'll use pi314159's system of driver signings. I'll also impose a maximum of three drivers per team.

So I hope you guys accept this series, and have fun :)

1. March 3rd, Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota (Homestead-Miami Speedway)
2. March 17th, IndyCar Rio 400 (Autódromo de Jacarepaguá)

19. September 15th, Las Vegas 500k (Las Vegas Motor Speedway)

USAC decided to add a second race to its USAC Gold Crown, which won't count for the IndyCar standings (But the Indy 500 still does). This is a measure to give backmarkers and Indy one-offs a chance to test their equipment under racing conditions. But IndyCar regulars are of course also invited to compete at the Indy 200 at Walt Disney World. So you don't have to race at Walt Disney World. Just say if you want to race or not. I hope I explained that well enough :D

Chassis
Eagle Mk.V
Lola T9600
Penske PC-25
Reynard 96i

Engines
Ford Cosworth
Honda
Menard V6
Mercedes IC 108C
Toyota

Goodyear

In case you have any questions, or want to file complaints about the n-th fictional series, feel free to share them in this thread. :)

Time to make PacWest actually good, and stay that way for more than 1 year. I hope.

PacWest Racing
Chassis: Reynard 96i
Engine: Honda
Tires: Goodyear

PacWest will offer contracts to the following drivers, in this order, until we secure 3 drivers:
Jeff Gordon (I believe 1996 is before his lifetime contract)
Robby Gordon
Mauricio Gugelmin
Mark Blundell
Johnny Herbert
Kenny Brack

Car numbers will be 17, 18, and 71.

Time to use pi's system:

Jeff Gordon

1-90: Staying with Hendrick Motorsports
91-100: Returning back to Indiana, in order to win the Indy 500.

Result: 25. Gordon stays in NASCAR

Johnny Herbert
1-80: Staying with Sauber in F1
81-100: Following other former F1 drivers to the United States.

Result: 15. Herbert prefers to run with Sauber

Therefore, PacWest will sign Robby Gordon, Mauricio Gugelmin and Mark Blundell.

Zanardi's already taken by Dale Coyne. Sorry.

Jacques Villeneuve
1-90: Fulfilling his contract with Williams F1.
91-100: Embarrasing F1 by staying with IndyCar.

Result: 91! Villeneuve stays with IndyCar!

Your other driver will be Jimmy Vasser and Gil de Ferran.

By the way, good luck with qualifying all of your cars for the Indy 500, if everyone keeps signing three drivers for their team ;).

There's a small problem with Tagliani: There doesn't seem to be many records about his pre-1996 career. I can't include him until next, when he has competed in his first Formula Atlantic season.

As for Montermini:
1-50: Trying his luck in F1 with Forti.
51-100: Screw that, he'll follow Badoer to America.

Result: 94. Montermini goes to Ganassi.

I am interested to go with two-car Della Penna team. Combination would be Reynard-Honda-Firestone, car Numbers are 48 and 84.

Juan Manuel Fangio II is preferred option for car 48, Alfonso Giaffone as an other option.
Aguri Suzuki is preferred for car 84, Allan McNish and JJ Lehto are also considered.

With 34 full-time entries (!) confirmed, I think it's time to move on. Coming up next is the USAC Indy 200 from Walt Disney World. Why USAC? Just read the opening post, and you'll find out that USAC has added another race to their USAC Gold Crown. It's a sort-of non-championship race, because the Indy 200 doesn't count to the IndyCar standings, whereas the Indy 500 does. Therefore, participation at the Indy 200 at Walt Disney World isn't mandatory. Those who wish to enter, just need to announce their entry in this thread.

Entry list for the USAC Indy 200 at Walt Disney World

Marlboro Team Penske
- Dario Franchitti
- Kenny Bräck

Payton-Coyne

It will also be a good chance to test out the new Firestone oval tire, so we're looking forward to the event.
