I honestly can't see the point of these CGI ads. Surely there's enough Allianz/Pirelli/Fly Emirates logos around the circuit(s) already?

I never read comments when I visit 9gag, but I do read YouTube comments. ;)

You also might add British tabloid sites and some subreddits (like /r/atheism or /r/news), too. (Hence why this exists...)

No. Just no. Most of 9gag are old reddit memes which in turn are based of jokes 4chan has already beaten to death. It is literally impossible to enjoy 9gag without not having bad taste. So the only worthwhile advice as far as 9gag goes is "stay the heck away from it".

Exactly. Vettel's Hate Dumb can be blamed on those theories. I recall the Brazilian F1 Fan Dumb having theories that Ferrari is sabotaging Massa, IIRC.

Oh come on, we can all agree that 9gag is an abomination of the internet, along with reddit, 4chan, and any other related or similar self-proclamed internet havens that are actually comprised of fanboys , generalised virus-filled madness, unfunny supposedly hilarious rubbish, general batshite insaneness, middle aged men with an inappropriate liking for Japanese images of scantily clad cartoon characters and probably illegal activity.

Whilst I acknowledge some of the stuff that comes out of these places is actually funny, the actual websites themselves are awful, and to be honest, I don't see why people like them. Unless they're there for the weirder side of things, which I won't go into detail about, but which we all know exists.

It pains me to say this, but I have never been so bored of a F1 season until now. Mercedes/Ferrari/Lotus seemingly have no idea how to counter the VETTELWINSLOL steamroller, and it looks like they've all conceded defeat already instead of taking up the battle to Red Bull. Vettel has just pulled off two Grand Chelems in a row, and has won every single race since the summer break, 3 of them from start to flag. When the race for the win can be predicted 10 laps in, it is frustrating viewing.

Now that wouldn't be so much of a problem if there was a invigorating midfield race, like there was in 2011. But there isn't IMO. The same things can be predicted, McLaren will still be clueless as to how to develop their car, pottering around the lower points, Williams are absolutely nowhere, Toro Rosso will be strong at the start of a race, but their strategists are clearly idiots as this year has shown time and again, and Force India have turned to shite since the tyres were changed. The only thing interesting is Hulkenberg driving like a demon in the Sauber at the moment.

And the backmarker teams are still no closer to scoring points. Yes, there may well be some interesting battles between Marussia and Caterham, but as we don't see them on the TV that often, it goes unnoticed. Plus the fact that HRT were about 4 times more interesting than either of them with their various escapades.

Add to that the constant bickering over the tyres, the fact that the other top teams seemingly have given up on this season, Kobayashi not being on the grid, and the demise of HRT at the end of last season, and F1 seems to have lost that special something. The races aren't as enjoyable as they once were. Vettel is looking increasingly likely to win every single remaining race this season, and his 4th consecutive championship is in the bag more or less.

Roll on 2014 I say. Shake up the status quo, no more moaning about the bloody tyres, and maybe even a return to the barmyness and feel-good nature of 2012 as well.

Of course, saying that, I guarantee most of the teams will be moaning about the new turbos for the entirety of next season... :|

I can confirm this as I forgot/didn't have time to change my castrol GP prediction for the Korean race (so the new prediction remains the same as the previous race predictions for those who don't play it) and have scored roughly the same amount of points for both the Korea and Singapore race.
Both races I scored fairly well, above my season average, because the races have become that predictable that the scoring in the game has become easier.

I agree with both Ataxia, and East Londoner here.

Londoner every single point you have made is absolutely spot on, this has been an absolute non-season, from start to Singapore, although it's more comparable to 2003 if we are thinking of any particular year to measure it against - a tight championship until a politically motivated tyre decision, and the death of all competitiveness (inb4 hurr durr F1 is all about car development, Newey's the best, we get it). Recently my enjoyment and optimism have been rapidly diminishing, and my indifference growing exponentially.

HOWEVER, Korea was an absolutely brilliant race, and renewed my faith massively. We got excellent battles, drama, hijinks, and even a few all-too-rare shots of backmarkers fighting it out during the chaos. We witnessed the rising star of Hulkenberg put in a drive that must surely secure a seat in the Lotus next year, Sutil trolling and Marcus Winklehock taking his jeep out for a sunday drive.

I really hope now the championship battle is now over, and seats are getting thinner on the ground, this current trend of mania continues. As one of Vettel's loudest critics, if I was able to love that race, maybe, just maybe, the rest of this season will continue in that current trend, and make for the rest of the dull season. So hopefully drivers pushing just a little too hard will continue this wonderfulness, and if not, 2014 isn't far around the corner anyway.

Yeah, but the TV directors never help a whole lot

I have been fed up with the Vettel hate, and I will make sure you mark my words again, and this is the last time I will say it: constantly complaining about the season, especially if Vettel is winning, you are not making yourself more popular, you are not making conditions better, and worst of all, you people are starting to piss people like ME of all people off. It is partially why I haven't been discussing much lately, as there is nothing noteworthy to talk about except things relating to Vettel and the current state of Formula 1 as a whole, and I see disrespectful comments regarding Vettel quite a bit. So my message to you is, it isn't necessary. Keep your own thoughts on him to yourself, and the forum will be a much better place to be for some people. If the forum experience isn't enjoyable, why bother coming?

This. I hadn't glanced at a TV screen with such a sense of amazement and even joy, since the Spanish grand prix last year or the 2002 Australian Grand Prix. I simply put aside the fact that the race for 1st was over and I paid full attention to the rest.

If you consider 1994-1995 as a blip, the only WDCs between 1984 and 1999 drove for either Williams or McLaren. Previous to that, no non-British constructor produced a World Champion prior to 1980. That´s absolute domination right there. If Red Bull/Ferrari shared the honours for the next 16 years, I bet we wouldn´t look on it as the golden age of F1...

This is probably a general rant about how our media portrays news and mainly how a bad event inevitably gets more coverage than positive news...I'm speaking in relation to the Franchitti crash last sunday.

But yesterday morning I was watching BBC breakfast and they do a story about Franchitti's crash, showing footage, Dixon's post race interview and reminding everyone about Wheldon's death... I'm surprised that yesterday morning they omitted F1 from the broadcast. Whilst I'm happy that the BBC do cover IndyCar from time to time (mainly non stories when Franchitti or Wheldon won the 500/championship), they seem to give more air time to the catastrophic events such as Wheldon's unfortunate fatal accident and now to Franchitti's accident whilst the positive news doesn't get in edgeways... Later changing channel to SkySports news, they had exactly the same feature as the BBC, maybe with a little more emphasis on comparing this crash to Wheldon's crash...

Today on the other hand there has been another story released on Franchitti on the BBC Sport, this time regarding an IndyCar statement where they are saying that they are investigating the accident and are trying to reduce risk to the drivers... What else are IndyCar supposed to say?

It's unfortunate that IndyCar is getting all of this unwanted attention due to this happening to a star driver, had this accident happened to Saavedra (for example) the media response would have been more focused on the debris flying into the spectators on the stand. This season has been brilliant and much of the racing has been arguably better than F1, yet this story in the public domain is likely to overshadow it meaning that IndyCar's image has been tarnished yet again..

As is written on the back of every motorsport ticket: "Motorsport can be dangerous. Despite the organisers taking all responsible precautions, unavoidable accidents can happen, in respect of these you are present at your own risk"

I think you very much have a point. I have only really experienced Schumacher domination, but I can tell you that I used to support every driver under the sun apart from him. Yes, even Jacques Villeneuve. But looking back on things, I have respect from Schumacher, and in the same way I have respect for Vettel now. Sometimes you just have to put up with the domination at the front and concentrate on the races elsewhere. Perhaps that's why I started coming to F1 Rejects in the first place.

Case in point, you could right off 2004 as a dud year. Schumacher won 12 of the first 13 races (take that crybabies!) and Ferrari won 16 out of 19 races. BUT, this season had:

- Jenson Button putting in some phenomenal performances in the BAR, including finishing 2nd at Hockenheim from 12th on the grid, driving a lot of the race one-handed
- Button-gate; Button saying he'd secured a move to Williams and then an almighty legal battle to get out of the contract and still at BAR
- Takuma Sato getting a podium at Indy and showing genuine pace throughout the season
- One of the most action packed Monaco GP's I've ever seen
- All sort of intrigue and disqualifications around the Canadian GP
- Spa churned out a very interesting race, full of safety cars
- Qualifying was rarely a foregone conclusion
- Ferrari might of won at China, but Schumacher was absolutely nowhere!
- Suzuka, with qualifying on a Sunday
- Fisichella being the effective perpetual IIDOTR, alongside Sato
- The McLaren and Williams cars looked awesome
And of course:
- A point for HWNSNBM!

Worth pointing out too that:
- Despite being Schumacher's most dominant season, it was also his last World Championship.
- 2004 is the last season in which Red Bull Racing didn't feature...

johnnyCarwash wrote:This is probably a general rant about how our media portrays news and mainly how a bad event inevitably gets more coverage than positive news...I'm speaking in relation to the Franchitti crash last sunday.

The problem is not that Indycars image is tarnished but that to the greater populous it is annonymous. If any non-fans are aware of it at all they probably think of it as that motorsport that only races on ovals and only in the US. Franchitti's crash only made the headlines on TV because of his nationality and the severity of the accident but I actually dont recall much coverage about his or Wheldons Indy 500 wins (although I guess I just happened to miss it as you clearly remember it).

As I posted in the IndyCar thread, not only is that warning on tickets in Britain but it is also posted on the catch-fencing round all race tracks.

I agree when you stop and think about it 2004 wasn't a bad season even if Schumacher waltzed to the title as BAR Renault Mclaren and Williams all had Podiums. We also had Webber on the front row in Malaysia and Pizzonia 3rd in Belgium for a while and of course the Trulli-Briatore saga too.

What did 2002 have? Apart from The Australian Grand Prix and Irvine's podium in a Jaguar at Monza not a lot.

Susie Wolff got an honuourary degree from Edinburgh University yesterday. My first question is...

WHY?

She hasn't done anything noteworthy in sport, ever. Sportspeople shouldn't even get honourary degrees to begin with. But of all the sportspeople to give it to...her?

What is the world coming to? Alice Powell wins a championship for British women and what the hell has Wolff done? Eh?

In all honesty Williams will be criticized at the end of the year not only for having an awful car but using some resources on a female driver that has had an unremarkable career. I guess Powell hasn't got a degree because she hasn't been tried out by an F1 team and therefore recognized. A great shame that about that. Danica Patrick, Simona di Silvestro and co. should get the American equivalent of that. At least they won races/scored podiums.

The thought here occurs, it's quite likely Alice Powell is studying for an actual degree alongside racing; she is only 20 and that's prime university age. It seems very little is known of her life outside the track, unless Sherlock Baker has been investigating... so does anyone know something I don't here?
