If only the car was reliable in early 1992, right?

I don´t know if I would have been able to win the championship, but I´m sure I would have been able to fight head to head with Mansell. I reckon the Williams has been massive at some track, but the McLaren´s been faster at others :)

1992 - ROUND 15 - JAPAN

Qualifying

Mansell on top again, this time with a slight advantage

1. Mansell -- 1.36.400
2. Dagnall -- 1.36.639
3. Patrese -- 1.37.077
4. Senna -- 1.37.438
5. Schumacher -- 1.38.008
6. Alesi -- 1.38.646

Race

Patrese and Senna passed me at the start, but I was a bit faster than Senna and Patrese. I passed Ayrton on lap 2, before being passed again next lap. I got to pass Senna again at the end of lap 4, outside at the Casio Triangle! Patrese was 2.1 ahead. I got him inmediately and, although I didn´t have plans on attacking him he broke way too early at the chicane on lap 5 and touched his rear, destroying his race and my front wing. I decided to keep the strategy though. I exited the pits 12th, passing Wendlinger and Herbert on lap 8, then Boutsen, Gugelmin, Comas and Alesi the next three laps. Berger was 6.4 ahead. Senna retired next lap, and Berger one later, climbing to 4th, 14.1 behind Schumacher. The german was much slower and I got around 1.5 secs behind me before my stop on lap 17. I exited the pits 5th and passed Alesi on lap 19. However, on lap 20 I went wide at 130R and lost a wheel!! I had to go back VEEERY SLOOOOOOOOOOOWLYYYYY to the pits and I was back 9th, which became 12th after touching wheels with Wendlinger. 2 laps later I went off at the spoon and retired in what´s been my worst race this season. Mansell retired later and Benetton scored an incredible 1-2!!

1. Brundle -- 1h33m45.240
2. Schumacher -- +29.050
3. Patrese -- +1.32.095
4. Martini -- +1 lap
5. Gugelmin -- +1 lap

Fastest lap: Dagnall: 1.38.286
DOTR: Martin Brundle: Climbed from 8th on the grid to a fantastic win for the Benetton team!

1992 - ROUND 16 - AUSTRALIA

Qualifying

I spun on Friday and didn´t get a time, so I had to qualify the car on Saturday and I ended up on Pole Position! The car felt great :)

1. Dagnall -- 1.15.468
2. Mansell -- 1.15.984
3. Patrese -- 1.16.534
4. Senna -- 1.16.704
5. Brundle -- 1.17.300
6. Alesi -- 1.17.474

Race

I did a very, very bad start, probably the worst of the season and arrived the 1st corner 4th. At the Brabham straight I passed Mansell for 3rd and next lap Senna at the same spot, with Patrese flying ahead of me and 2.3 secs ahead. I was trying to get closer when on lap 5 I stepped over the kerb at the entrance of the Brabham straight and the car went straight to the wall, rebounding back to the track and being hit by Michael Schumacher, who couldn´t avoid my car. I was taken inmediately to the hospital and been diagnosed with a broken elbow. Ayrton won his first race of the season after Mansell retired with one lap to go and passing Brundle in the final stages of the race for the 4th place in the championship!

1. Senna -- 1h49m11.232
2. Brundle -- +5.401
3. Patrese -- +9.980
4. Comas -- +1 lap
5. Boutsen -- +1 lap
6. Mansell -- +2 laps (r)
7. Berger -- +2 laps (r)
8. Alboreto -- +2 laps
9. Wendlinger -- +2 laps
10. Gugelmin -- +2 laps
11. Martini -- +2 laps
12. Lehto -- +2 laps

Fastest lap: Nigel Mansell: 1.16.598
DOTR: Erik Comas; Emerged to reveal Ligier as a real alternative for the next year.
ROTR: Aguri Suzuki; Ended crashing after doing nothing remarkable.

Ron Dennis said:

I´m very glad we finally got the 2nd place in the championship, thanks to the extraordinary drive by Ayrton today. I´m rushing now to the hospital to see how Chris is. He´s given the team lots of good moments and a great strike of wins this year when nobody thought it would be possible. The whole Mclaren team wish him a fast recovery and all the good luck for the future.

Royal Adelaide Hospital, Monday 9th November 1992

Wizzie Magazine: Mr. Dagnall, could you confirm the estate of your injury?

Chris Dagnall: The doctors have diagnosed a broken elbow. They estimate it will take around 4 months and a half to fully recover.

Wizzie Magazine: Will you make it for the beggining of the 1993 season?

Chris Dagnall: I hope I can make it to Interlagos. I´m almost sure we´ll be there, but I´m afraid I´m going to miss all the pre-season testing, which is specially inconvenient since I´m joining a new team.

Wizzie Magazine: Do you remember anything of the accident.

Chris Dagnall: Yes, I do ... On lap five I went over the kerb at the entrance of the straight, then lost the car and hit the wall, losing a front wheel. Then somebody came from behind and I don´t remember anything after the impact.

Get well soon Chris! :)
And ... well, at least Senna won the final race, so McLaren deservedly got the second place in the WCC. Also, Ligier almost beating Ferrari is... just wow.

How weird - a friend at work fractured her elbow last week. She's only out of action for 6 weeks max though. Then again, she didn't do it by crashing a car, she..errm...fell over!

So she obviously doesn´t know how long a broken elbow would take to recover by crashing a car at more than 200kph!

One question: Do you want me to enter the March team to spice things up a little bit?? In real-life they even went to South Affrica with Gounon and Lammers as drivers but never found the money to pay for the Ilmor engines and withdrew. I would put them in a level between Minardi/Tyrrell and Lola BMS.

Re: My GP2 reject career - 1984/????

I´ve changed some of the track versions I´ve been using up to now:

Imola - The new one isn´t very different from the previous.
Monaco - Although it´s a 98 version -so it has the 1997 change at Swimming Pool, making it faster- it´s now much narrower than the original!! (the one I was using). Harder overall to overtake and to score good laptimes.
Estoril - Part of the advantage was explained because of the CC line used, so I´ve changed the version of the track. It doesn´t look as "realistic" as the other, but CC´s are harder to beat now and times are in the region of what happened in reality
Suzuka - I was running the original version. This one makes some realistic changes -Specially at turn 1, which was too slow at the original, and the 1st Degner, which was too fast at the original. Overall a bit more interesting.
Adelaide - A great change too! I´ve found a version which is narrower and has higher kerbs, so kerb riding is not possible now!! (It seemed hard in reality as well, this one seems more "real") Laptimes are a bit too high but the track looks way better now.

So, at the moment I´m only running the original versions of Interlagos (to be changed in 1995), Montreal (to be changed in 1998) and Monza (to be changed in 1995). I won´t run the original TI Circuit, but it´s possible I´ll be running the original Jerez and, maybe, the original Estoril 1994-1996 layout.

There's no GP2 version of Montreal with the chicane in the long stright?

And about Monza... what they did exactly change in 1995? I know they changed the Curva Grande to increase the run-off, but that was in 1994 IIRC.

Nope, there aren´t any versions with the temporary chicanes (not Montmeló and Spa as well). And about Monza... well, I was mistaken about the year but not the changes they made. In 1994 they changed the 2nd Lesmo making it slower (I will change to the 95-99 version already in 94 I think, as this was the major change).
In 1995 they went further and changed Curva grande a little bit, made the straight to Variante della Roggia a bit shorter to make the run-off longer, and they also decreased the distance between della roggia and the first Lesmo in order to increase the run-off there as well.

Chris Dagnall is back!!

1993 - ROUND 1 - BRAZIL (South Africa to be number 2, as in 1992)

Friday morning was the very first time I stepped into a car since my accident in Adelaide last year. It´s been 4 long months, but the team expectations were high thanks to the fantastic results Johnny Herbert had at Silverstone in the pre-season. I didn´t know what to expect. The experience told me that, although the pre-season testing had been good, it would be hard to step into the "Top 4". It´s been an exciting weekend for the press, specially since Senna wasn´t too convinced about driving the new McLaren with the Ford V8 engine. The comeback of Prost and the driver changes almost in every team kept the journalists quite busy.

Chris Dagnall:

I wanna be quite frank about the car and the teams hopes for this season. Much has been said but our main target should stay to finish ahead of Ligier and Footwork. I don´t think is a realistic goal to beat Ferrari or Benetton. Not for this year at least.

Qualifying

Had a good Friday finishing 7th, but I couldn´t beat the time on Saturday and stepped back to 10th, just ahead of Herbert in the other Lotus. The Williams were unbeatable, as usual.

1. Prost -- 1.14.959
2. Hill -- 1.15.707
3. Senna -- 1.15.823
4. Schumacher -- 1.16.106
5. Alesi -- 1.16.661
6. Berger -- 1.16.904
---
9. Brundle -- 1.17.139
10. Dagnall -- 1.17.175
11. Herbert -- 1.17.253
---
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.19.402
DNQ. Lammers -- 1.19.451

Race

I climbed to 9th after a good start, passing Brundle in the process. Lehto almost passed me in the Sauber after a great start. Meanwhile, Andretti lost his front wing trying to pass Berger and I passed him shortly afterwards for 8th at the end of the first lap, with Alesi 1.2 secs ahead and Brundle inmediately behind. A group of 4 drivers quickly formed with me, Brundle, Lehto and Herbert fighting for 8th, but on lap 5 Johnny´s car failed and he said goodbye. Alesi was now 2.1 ahead, but from there on I got to get quicker than the Ferrari and started to cut the gap, which was 0.7 on lap 10, when Berger retired, climbing to 7th. The Ferrari engine worked quite good in the straights and I had to wait until lap 14 to try and pass Alesi for 6th, with Brundle and Lehto following shortly afterwards. Lehto entered the pits quite soon, on lap 17, while I did my 1st stop on lap 24, exiting 10th, just behind Lehto. Both Ligiers stopped shortly afterwards and I climbed to 8th, but I couldn´t get close to Lehto, whose advantage was of 3.4 by lap 30, 2.5 four laps later. Finally Lehto stopped on lap 37, making it clear his choice for 3 stops and Alesi did his only stop as well, so I climbed to 6th, with Brundle behind me. On lap 40 I had some traction problems at the exit of the hairpin and he tried to pass on the outside, we both entered the corner and we touched, going into the grass! Alesi passed me for 6th and now I didn´t have one Ligier in my tail, but two! Blundell passed Brundle and he was the one to press me for the next few laps. Alesi retired shortly afterwards and I arrived my 2nd pit-stop 6th again, exiting 9th and passing both Ligiers again as they stopped, with Brundle once again just behind. Lehto was now 17.5 ahead but he had to do another stop. I even managed to reduce the gap a bit before his pit-stop so it was no problem passing him. In that period I got to leave Brundle up to 2.0 secs behind on lap 57, then Senna came to lap both. Brundle quickly stayed behind the McLaren while it took Senna a while to get close enough to pass. He did so at the start of the twist section on lap 61. I knew that Brundle was behind so I let Senna pass me on the outside so I could cover the inside. Just as Senna passed me approaching the Esse corner Brundle tried to squeeze in behind Ayrton but stepped on the grass and crashed into the wall for retirement! Blundell was almost 6 secs behind so I just got to admin that to finish 6th and score the 1st point of the season for Lotus!

1. Prost -- 1h36m37.188
2. Senna -- +36.629
3. Hill -- +42.638
4. Schumacher -- +57.457
5. Patrese -- +1 lap
6. Dagnall -- +1 lap
7. Lehto -- +1 lap
8. Blundell -- +1 lap
9. Andretti -- +1 lap
10. Alliot -- +2 laps
11. Boutsen -- +2 laps
12. Fittipaldi -- +2 laps
13. Comas -- +2 laps
14. Barrichello -- +2 laps
15. De Cesaris -- +3 laps
16. Barbazza -- +3 laps
17. Suzuki -- +3 laps
18. Gounon -- +4 laps
19. Alboreto -- +4 laps

Fastest lap. Alain Prost: 1.18.477
DOTR: Alain Prost: Scored a fantastic win in his F1 comeback.
ROTR: Ferrari: The only team not to get any car to the finish despite fighting for points.

Chris Dagnall:

I´m very happy with the result. The car is quite easy to drive, but in terms of power it´s like going back to 1989! I´ve had loads of fun fighting with Martin. It was hard to keep him behind for such a long time as I think he was faster on used tyres, and his engine seems to be a lot more powerful than ours. I guess he knows the Lotus sponsors much better than me now!! I have to thank the team and specially the physical trainers who helped me out a lot to make my presence possible here in Brazil. Now I´m really looking forward for the rest of the season!

1993 - ROUND 2 - SOUTH AFRICA

Qualifying

For the very first time in my F1 career -even having in count my first year at Osella!- I had fears I wouldn´t be able to qualify the car. By the end of the first day, I was between both Lola cars, but a few tweaks on the setup allowed me to improve by more than a second on saturday and qualify comfortably, although towards the end of the grid.

1. Prost -- 1.08.203
2. Hill -- 1.08.866
3. Schumacher -- 1.09.171
4. Senna -- 1.09.255
5. Alesi -- 1.09.640
6. Andretti -- 1.09.704
---
8. Herbert -- 1.09.945
---
21. Boutsen -- 1.10.848
22. Dagnall -- 1.10.913
23. Barbazza -- 1.11.025
---
DNQ. Alboreto -- 1.12.036
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.12.147

Race

I prefered to be cautious at the start and the first corner as passed by some front wing pieces, so I lost one place. I passed then both Larrousses and Patrese, who was the owner of the pieces i mentioned. I was for a three stop and the car felt great. I passed Barbazza on lap 2, Boutsen and Katayama on lap 3, Fittipaldi on lap 4 for 16th, Lehto retired, and also passed Warwick on lap 5, Blundell and Barrichello on lap 6 and Suzuki on lap 7 for 11th, with Wendlinger 4.4 secs ahead. Schumacher spun on lap 9 and I passed Wendlinger on lap 13 for 9th! I did my first pit on lap 17 and felt to 18th, but quickly regained positions by pasing cars and also other pitstops and I was 10th by lap 21 and within range of passing Herbert and Brundle during their pitstops when the engine expired. Brundle eventually finished in the podium so what a race might have been!

1. Prost -- 1h30m46.778
2. Hill -- +1.15.087
3. Brundle -- +1 lap
4. Herbert -- +1 lap
5. Blundell -- +1 lap
6. Andretti -- +1 lap
7. Patrese -- +2 laps
8. Fittipaldi -- +2 laps
9. Suzuki -- +2 laps
10. Barbazza -- +2 laps
11. Alliot -- +2 laps
12. Gounon -- +3 laps
13. Lammers -- +4 laps
14. Wendlinger -- +8 laps (r)

Fastest lap: Alain Prost - 1.12.686
DOTR: Martin Brundle - Passed 4 cars during the 1st lap and climbed for a podium finish.
ROTR: Benetton drivers - Both destroyed their chances with childish mistakes

Chris Dagnall said:

I´m sure I would have finished in the podium as we had the right call for fuel and tyres but the engine just let me down. However, I´m really happy for Johnny and this result shows that we have the potential to be there.

1993 - ROUND 3 - EUROPEAN GP

Qualifying

Another nightmare qualifying with no time on Friday due to some problems and a multiple collision with Alliot and Patrese. Had to work hard on Saturday but I came closer to Herbert than in Kyalami at least.

1. Prost -- 1.10.097
2. Hill -- 1.10.755
3. Schumacher -- 1.11.220
4. Senna -- 1.11.534
5. Alesi -- 1.11.660
6. Andretti -- 1.11.853
---
13. Herbert -- 1.12.211
---
17. Barrichello -- 1.12.359
18. Dagnall -- 1.12.601
19. Alliot -- 1.12.649
---
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.14.013
DNQ. Alboreto -- 1.15.624

Race

I made a good start. Fittipaldi touched my rear left and flought, resulting in a spectacular accident, and taking Warwick off the track. I was 16th at the first corner then there was some short of traffic jam at the chicane and made my way up to 13th by the end of the 1st lap. I passed Patrese on 2nd lap and next lap Herbert spun off and out of the race. There was a nice group behind Suzuki and I kept a good battle with Patrese, being passed by him before returning to 11th place after Prost spun. I went off the track on lap 6 then two laps later Patrese spun and well and concentrated on fighting Lehto, Berger and Suzuki. I passed Lehto for 11th on lap 13, then Suzuki on lap 16, one before my pit-stop. I exited the pits 21st, with De Cesaris 4.8 secs ahead. On lap 19 with the tyres cold yet I went off track at Coppice and when I regained control Gounon crashed into my Lotus and we both retired instantly. Not a very inspiring ending...

1. Schumacher -- 1h37m01.412 -1st win ever!-
2. Hill -- +17.529
3. Blundell -- +19.218
4. Prost -- +22.582
5. Andretti -- +44.726
6. Lehto -- +1.14.379
7. Barbazza -- +1 lap
8. Warwick -- +1 lap
9. Comas -- +1 lap
10. Alliot -- +1 lap
11. Suzuki -- +1 lap
12. Katayama -- +2 laps
13. Boutsen -- +2 laps
14. Brundle -- +3 laps (r)
15. Wendlinger -- +3 laps (r)

Fastest lap; Prost - 1.12.686
DOTR; Mark Blundell - He would have won with a better grid position.
ROTR; Boutsen - Terribly slow at both qualifying and race. Couldn´t fight the Tyrrells.

Chris Dagnall said:

I was with the cold tyres and didn´t measure the risk right, despite having had problems at Coppice the whole weekend. Even though we didn´t get a positive result I would like to remark that we´re doing well during the races and we´re following the right path. I hope next time there´s a 2nd GP in the UK we go back to Brands Hatch, I miss it!

1993 - ROUND 4 - SAN MARINO

Qualifying

After an irregular start for the season, getting back to the classic tracks also meant a huge improvement for the team. The car was finally working as desired!

1. Prost -- 1.26.300
2. Hill -- 1.26.980
3. Schumacher -- 1.27.682
4. Dagnall -- 1.28.024
5. Senna -- 1.28.066
6. Alesi -- 1.28.357
---
13. Herbert -- 1.28.976
---
DNQ. Lammers -- 1.30.901
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.30.939

Race

I was passed by Alesi and Senna at the start but I could recoup the position to the Ferrari before the first corner. At that moment I was just thinking of being in front of the Ferrari as Senna was 1.2 seconds ahead by the end of the first lap, in a group with Hill and Schumacher... but it seems that the Lotus is working even better on race day and the gap to Senna stays the same on lap 5, while the Ferrari is now 2.0 secs behind me. On lap 8 I get Senna and pass him after Tamburello, then 3 laps later I pass Schumacher. I´m 3rd and Hill is just 3.0 secs ahead! By lap 15 Hill is 2.3 ahead, with Schumacher now more than 3 seconds behind. On lap 20 I finally get to the Williams and pass him at Tossa despite the Williams being faster at the straights! Now Prost is unbeatable: 22.5 seconds ahead. On lap 21 I go for my first pit and I drop to 5th, Senna stops next lap and I get the 4th position again, with Schumacher 19.0 secs ahead. A few laps later it seems that both Williams and Schumacher are going for one stop, but their tyres don´t work pretty well and by lap 29 I´m just 10 seconds behind the Benetton, with the German stopping next lap. Senna also pits and unveils a surprising 3 stop strategy, while Hill goes in next lap and I regain 2nd, now with Hill 12.2 behind, but me having to do another pit-stop. With the new tyres the Williams got closer and by lap 36 the gap is 9.7 although soon things get better and at the moment of my 2nd stop on lap 40 the gap is over 11 seconds. I exit 4th with Schumacher 2.5 secs ahead, and two laps later approaching Tossa I can see a cloud of white smoke going uphill... The Renault engine of Hill is gone! On lap 45 I catch the Benetton and pass Schumacher for 2nd and I get a 3.3 secs advantage in just two laps, as the german has some trouble lapping Andretti. Then I arrive to lap my team-mate, who´s having a tough battle for 8th with Karl Wendlinger. I get them at Variante Bassa, and pass Herbert at the last chicane, but he doesn´t give me enough space and touch my sidepod, half spinning! I lost several seconds but somehow miracously Andretti, on new tyres, unlapped himself from Schumacher and gave me that extra second enough to keep the 2nd position! On lap 52 I´ve managed to get a new advantage of over 2 secs over the Benetton and I finally lap Herbert, who´s benefited from Wendlinger´s retirement and Schumacher has to make an unexpected pit-stop 2 laps to the end, contributing to my overall well-being and a fantastic 2nd position!

1. Prost -- 1h32m59.284
2. Dagnall -- +1.18.275
3. Senna -- +1 lap
4. Schumacher -- +1 lap
5. Brundle -- +1 lap
6. Patrese -- +1 lap
7. Alesi -- +1 lap
8. Herbert -- +1 lap
9. Andretti -- +1 lap
10. Warwick -- +2 laps
11. Blundell -- +2 laps
12. Fittipaldi -- +2 laps
13. Suzuki -- +2 laps
14. Lehto -- +2 laps
15. Alliot -- +2 laps
16. Barrichello -- +2 laps
17. Gounon -- +3 laps

Fastest lap: Alain Prost - 1.30.067
DOTR: Chris Dagnall - Flawless drive in the underpowered Lotus for a 2nd place in a race with few retirements!
ROTR: Tyrrell - Drove at the back and scored a double DNF due to mechanical problems.

Chris Dagnall said:

I´m inmensely proud of the team for this achievement! I couldn´t believe it when I was able to pass Damon Hill. I don´t know if this drive is among my very best, but I can tell you it´s more rewarding to get this 2nd place than an easy win when you have the best car around. Anyway, we have to be positive but not overdo things now, there´s 12 races left and we have to work hard to beat the Ligiers

1992 - ROUND 5 - SPAIN

Qualifying

Another great qualifying session. I feel like the season is really starting to take off!

1. Prost -- 1.20.838
2. Hill -- 1.21.608
3. Senna -- 1.21.841
4. Dagnall -- 1.21.917
5. Schumacher -- 1.22.121
6. Andretti -- 1.22.652
7. Herbert -- 1.22.839
---
DNQ. Alboreto -- 1.25.997
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.26.357

Race

I was the very person surprised when I passed both Hill and Senna at the start! Obvioulsy, Prost was unbeatable and way faster than the rest. Senna passed Hill as well. Herbert had to retire on lap 3. On lap 5 Prost was already 4.1 secs ahead, and I also was leading Senna with a comfortable 1.5 secs. That same lap Schumacher retired after suffering a problem and taking off Wendlinger. Three laps later, Senna also suffered a problem and had to pit. So, I was on lap 9, with Prost 6 secs ahead and Hill 8 secs behind when, coming at the end of the straight, the rear left tyre blew out! I was lucky enough to control it but I had to do almost a complete lap on three tyres, which left me 21st when I reached the pits, with only Senna behind. Out of the pits Barrichello was my first victim: It only took me 5 laps to recover 13.7 secs. I inmediately passed Lammers and Gounon as well, and with Berger´s retirement that left me 17th. Lehto also retired and I passed De Cesaris afterwards, before many of the drivers ahead hit their first pit-stop (I had already refuelled when I suffered the problems, putting me on two longer stints than wanted). That made me 8th when Warwick entered the pits on lap 26. Now Andretti was 12.9 ahead, but the american soon passed Brundle, whose advantage was just 4.5 secs by lap 33. On lap 34 Patrese retired, so when I entered for my 2nd stop on lap 36 I could keep my 7th position, with Blundell now 36.5 secs ahead of me. The car was a bit more heavier than desirable, but still could get 3.7 secs behind Andretti when he stopped. When Blundell pit I could pass him but on lap 50 I went off track trying to push to catch both Alesi and Brundle at their stops, but I only got Alesi, which left me 6th. Alesi retired on lap 53 and now Brundle was 7.8 ahead. Towards the end, with the car lighter, I started to improve my laptimes in relation to the others and could get 3.9 off Blundell on lap 59, then 1.6 on lap 61. I finally could pass the Ligier on lap 63, out of 64 as Prost had lapped everybody else. That left me 1.2 secs off Andretti, I just pushed as hard as I could and got past the McLaren on the final lap for a 4th position!

1. Prost -- 1h34m42.367
2. Hill -- +1 lap
3. Brundle -- +1 lap
4. Dagnall -- +1 lap
5. Andretti -- +1 lap
6. Blundell -- +1 lap
7. Senna -- +1 lap
8. Wendlinger -- +2 laps
9. Warwick -- +2 laps
10. Barbazza -- +2 laps
11. Barrichello -- +2 laps
12. Alliot -- +2 laps
13. Suzuki -- +2 laps
14. Gounon -- +3 laps
15. Lammers -- +3 laps

Fastest lap: Alain Prost - 1.24.026
DOTR: Prost - Managed to lap everybody else, including his team-mate
ROTR: Schumacher - Could have reached the pits when he had his problem, but not only missed on that but also sent Wendlinger off track in the process.

Chris Dagnall said:

I won´t stop thinking how wonderful the 2nd position would have been, the 4th place is a great result anyway. Today that tyre failed, but on San Marino it was me who benefited from Hill´s retirement for example. At least we´ve reached the goal, this result should make the team stronger

Championship standings -After 5 races-

Yeah, something's done wrong there. Two 2nds and a 4th equals more than 10 points.

Mr Dagnall, I've heard rumours that Alain Prost may be retiring after this season. Do you believe on the back of your recent performances that you might be in with a shot at the Williams seat next season?

CHRIS DAGNALL: Well, it´s truth that when I signed Lotus it was the best seat available, basically. I would be pleased to run in a Williams, but I have a three year contract with Lotus and I´m solely focused on delivering to my current team.

Andretti already has 5 points, just 1 less than his real total. This means this game is definitely unrealistic with its AI :P .

1993 - ROUND 6 - MONACO -I had to revert to the original version of the track as the 1998 version I installed had a devilish difficulty in terms of AI speed-

Qualifying

Suffered a lot during qualifying, unable to get the car quick enough through the corners. Herbert did a brilliant qualifying though.

1. Prost -- 1.21.032
2. Hill -- 1.22.125
3. Schumacher -- 1.22.259
4. Alesi -- 1.22.781
5. Andretti -- 1.22.825
6. Herbert -- 1.23.008
---
12. Senna -- 1.23.263
---
17. Lehto -- 1.23.623
18. Dagnall -- 1.23.704
19. Alliot -- 1.23.930
---
DNQ. Alboreto -- 1.25.777
DNQ. Badoer -- 1.26.095

Race

I did a great start this time and found myself 14th after the first corner. How I could pass that many cars is totally beyond me. I passed Senna as well at Mirabeau so I was 13th at the end of the 1st lap. On 2nd lap I passed Warwick, then Suzuki two laps later, with Wendlinger now 4.1 secs ahead. On lap 5 Andretti suffered an accident at the last corner and took out Blundell with him. Now Senna had easily passed Warwick and Suzuki as well and was just behind me, passing me at Mirabeau quite easily on lap 7. On lap 10 I got to Barrichello and passed him on lap 12 for 9th, and Hill then retired before my pitstop on lap 19. I exited the pits on 10th position, then Berger retired and started to cut time over Barrichello. He stopped on lap 23, then Wendlinger stopped on lap 27, climbing to 7th and then to 6th 4 laps later when Patrese retired as well. So I found myself 20.3 secs behind Herbert, with Senna well ahead of him. I did my 2nd stop on lap 38, recovering the 6th position soon as Barrichello entered for his 2nd stop. Then it became clear I wouldn´t be able to get to Herbert. Alesi retired on lap 52. After my 3rd stop Herbert was more than 30 secs ahead so it was just a case of wait & see. I also spun coming out of Loews on lap 61 trying to keep Herbert less than 30 secs ahead in case he had an extraordinary problem, but I was lucky enough to recover before Barrichello arrived. Everything was set for a quiet finish when Prost suffered a problem with 3 laps to go and had to do an extra pit-stop, which allowed me to stay within a lap lost (he was going to lap me for the 2nd time). Then Herbert ran out of fuel at the start/finish line at the last lap, from where he could see the man waving the checkered flag!! This resulting in an unexpected 4th position. Schumacher retired as well at the final lap which let Senna finish 2nd.

1. Prost -- 1h51m45.533
2. Senna -- +1.15.794
3. Schumacher -- +1 lap (r)
4. Dagnall -- +1 lap
5. Barrichello -- +1 lap
6. Herbert -- +2 laps (r)
7. Fittipaldi -- +2 laps
8. Barbazza -- +2 laps
9. Katayama -- +3 laps
10. Gounon -- +3 laps

Fastest lap: Alain Prost - 1.21.545
DOTR: Senna; Climbed from 14th in the first lap to 2nd passing almost everyone in front of him!
ROTR: Andretti; Paid for his unexperience in Monaco and took Blundell out in the process.

Chris Dagnall:

This result is very positive. I didn´t expect to score points today but everything went our way today so I´m glad to have done a good race at Monaco again. Johnny was really unlucky, but at least he got a point which is important for the team, having in count that our main rivals didn´t score. The next 4 races are held in reasonably fast tracks so we should do well there.
