Re: Unpopular F1 opinions
F1 has failed to be at "the cutting edge of automotive/motorsports design" since 1985. Active suspension has been around since the late 70's; ground effects have been around since the mid 60's; fuel injection has been around since the mid 50's; militaries have tested carbon fibre in the la...

Re: Is it time for the return of Turbo in f1?
Having turbos would also be a bit of a handicap in wet races as well (There is a reason for this, but I cant remember it exactly. Was it anything to do with turbolag?) Could be the big spike of power and torque you get when the turbo kicks in creating wheelspin either. Although I reckon F1 engineer...

The scariest part was a turn just before the end where I could see that the retaining wall was concrete. I definitely slowed down there... Turn 10, the right hander before the pit entry? I think it was 10 - it was before pit entry, and a very fast corner. It was there, as well as at Turns 9 and 4 t...

The only "classic" US / Canada sports car tracks that I've experienced are: Driving 20 laps - Laguna Seca I envy you my friend. What's it's like going down the corkscrew in what I presume is a mid to late 60s Chevy? The car goes light, its pretty scary. I managed to straighten out between...

I think it's sad that on a family forum, you can't call someone gay. It's not like saying someone else is gay, even if it's not true, is some kind of evil thing that we have to protect our children's eyes from. Personally, I'm not particularly bothered by it... but I know plenty of people who are. ...

Re: Peter Revson Appreciation Thread
I have always rather liked Revson, of course because he was a somewhat unfulfilled promise, but also because his name sounds funny, and is rather apt for a racing driver. Also, I believe he's Jewish, which led to me developing a curiosity to know if there have been other Jewish drivers in Formula o...

Over my karting days, I've done the following: 1. Stall on starts 2. Stall after spins 3. Forget to shift for straights 4. Take hairpins at higher gear than straights (see above) 5. Power slide on straights (which occasionally led to...) 6. Losing control (in the dry) on straights (which often led t...

I was 2 yrs old. I would not know about the existence of F1 until 11 years later. (I became interested in aerodynamics because of planes, then spacecraft, then progressed onto formula 1 cars).

I love that livery - much better than the Marlboro/Texaco one IMO. Is that the car he won the British GP in? I don't like how Ron Dennis's squad uses the "original orange" color on their test cars - they are not Bruce and Denny. If Revson had survived, there is no doubt he would have won ...

To me it still looks better than the current crop of ugly aerodynamic aids/sails etc. It's not exactly smooth though, is it? Maybe it's Safari Rally spec, with that snorkel. You want to see ugly? I had a Can-Am / F1 crossover dream: I was driving a "werks" Porsche 917/10 that was specially improved with 4 intermediate ramjets and ground effects. The others competition were driving random F1 turbo cars and the 92 Williamses. The first race was held in what looked like Mosport Park, ...

Does anyone like the look of the high airbox, snowplough snout mid 70's F1 cars? Or, for that matter, the tea-tray front wing? I was watching an old episode of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" (may be meaningless to those outside the UK), and there was a sketch making fun of Prost in his 1991 Season with Ferrari. Laurie was playing Prost, moaning as usual about the 642. Fry played the reporter. The prophetic bit? He call...

It was something I found weird. All these guys were pretty good in Le Mans, later on at ALMS, Hillclimb events, but they could not hack it in this arena.
